I love this poem. So many people question why poets can't write happier poems, why they're all depressing or angry. Of course they're not but I'm happy someone shed some insight into why someone may struggle with writing with "Happy" emotion.

I tried to tell my boyfriend something like this, how he shouldn't be upset that I don't write about him, but Sarah said it better than I ever could. Bless her soul.

"Speaking in abstract metaphors so you think that i have a more poetic view on the world than you is against my poetic ethics" - no wonder her poetry is awesome. Profound but honestly incredibly simple and easy to understand and connect with!

Poetic styles like free verse, spoken word, and slam are to poetry what jazz is to music - Sometimes it makes no sense, sometimes it sounds like it doesn't quite fit, but it doesn't matter. That's the beauty of these creative styles. There are no boundaries. It is not a different version of the same thing over and over, yet originality everywhere you turn and it doesn't need to FIT IN at all... As she said, your end product can be the WORST and it will still be accepted and loved

I love writing. But the only times I would find myself writing were when I wasn't feeling too good. I read my poems now and they make no sense with the person I am now, because I am now a happy person. Ever since my life took this great turn, I stopped writing. And it sucks! I hated that I could only be inspired to write when I was feeling sad. This performance by Sarah Kay hits the spot just right. She took this feeling of uncertainty, this confusion, and made it into yet another amazing poem.

This is amazing. Beautifully spoken and performed. I like the drift of the story; it closes nicely back with the beginning. An elegant use of pause and form (in the lyric). Thanks for sharing the talent of this young lady with the world!

Poetry does not require rhyme. It only requires rhythm and style. These performances are really great because they help to establish that rhythm that may be lost through reading.

Music does not need a sound, a beat or a rhythm; music is what one perceives it to be- if the silence on a cold night is their music then so be it. A story book does not need a sense of understanding, it needs a sense of connection and if it's that that one needs to love the words that fall upon each page then so be it. Drawing needs a person, art needs a person; that is all. Art is everything. Poetry is this, poetry is emotions, poetry is whatever we wish to perceive it as- Rhyming or not.
