@haregeorgeson45115 ай бұрын
It was actually conceived as a multireligious hymn. George was grown in Christian religion, but since 1965 he turned his faith to embrace the Hindu one. On his posthumous record's cover you can see a little cross next to the OM sign. Which means he always searched God in any possibile form and with any possibile name, no matter if you're singin' alleluiah, or hare krshna. That's very typical of the Beatles : never meant to divide, but to make your own thoughts grow, anyway. There is something magic on a young woman like you moving while listening to this song, 50 years after it was released. I'm sure 50 years from now, there will be another girl feeling the same surprise and delight - and then another, and then another one. That's the pure magic of the Beatles.: neverending, even when they're no more among us. Greetings from Italy

I remember reading that George was asked about the Hari Krishna chant in this song and he said something like "it doesn't matter what you call God, just call him." I've always loved that. God bless you George, you're forever missed.❤ Thank you for choosing this song dear Sarah, you've made an old Beatles fan very happy. I adore this song, it always makes me feel so happy that I cry.🥰 I've subscribed and look forward to seeing your videos, sending hugs from a chilly Scotland

Great song. It harkens me back to the 70's with Hare Krishnas at the airport soliciting $. One time a hare Krishna young lady pinned a small flower on my shirt. I said thanks & walked off. She chased me down & took the flower back cuz I didn't give her $. I told her it's better to give than receive but to no avail. I then took a jet to Honolulu. When I disembarked a young lady put a Lei of flowers (circle of aloha) around my neck (no charge).

George was SUED for accidentally stealing the entire melody form the 1963 hit "He's So Fine" by the chiffons. Look it up....He lost. It cost him big bucks...otherwise he wrote some very fine tunes.

I've always loved this song. To me, it's universal to whichever 'God' you believe in. Krishna, Hindu god of protection, compassion, tenderness & love is really in no conflict IMHO to my 'Cathlolic' God! Universal message of love - and our fundamental understanding that our time here on Earth is finite - we're all hoping for an 'end' where we are united with our creator - in whichever form that takes! Cheers.

This tune was on George Harrison's first post-Beatles solo album, a triple called All Things Must Pass. It went platinum three times and was the first #1 album after the breakup. George's signature slide guitar is prominent on this and throughout the album. "Can't wait to see you Lord" is Harrison's address to Lord Krishna, but we used to sing it in Jr. Choir in church--all hallejulahs of course!
@wendyzeller39084 ай бұрын
George was born and raised in Christian faith. He came to study other spiritual traditions, including Hindu traditions. His spiritual quest informed the later songs he wrote while still a member of the Beatles (check out “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”) and most of his post-Beatles music. He read and greatly admired Swami Vivekananda, a visionary of the Ramakrishna Order of Vedanta. One of the teachings of Vedanta is “Truth is One. Sages know it by various names.” So your observation that My Sweet Lord was written in the sentiment that perhaps God is just all one thing and it is only we people who see differences is spot on! I believe that was one of George’s messages in that song. There is a great music video done by his son Dhani and wife Olivia about My Sweet Lord. Available on KZfaq. Check it out. Also see Martin Scorsese documentary about George, Living In The Material World. 🕉️

Fantastic song from a very underrated Beatle, I had the privilege of seeing the Beatles live in 1962, I was docked at Liverpool and introduced to the Cavern club by a Liverpudlian shipmate. George Harrison lived near me at Henley on Thames, I often pass the gates of his property and think nostalgically of him, I believe his wife and son Dhani still live there.

One of my all-time favourite songs. I was 7 when it came out, and I remember listening to it on the radio all through the next few years. It is poignant that he could easily have been singing about Jesus, as it is well documented that he very likely converted to Christianity before he died. I love the way the song found its way into the MCU via Guardians of the Galaxy II.

George was a very spiritual Hindu since the Beatles went to india in '68, Harrison once said,"The living thing that goes on, always has been, always will be. I am not really George, but I happen to be in this body." Phil Spector was again responsible for his famous "wall of sound" on this record. He was also one of the "back-up" singers. Unfortunately, Spector later became a homicidal maniac and died in prison.

This is one of The Beatles greatest songs, and it shows how great George was as a musician and songwriter. He created a fabulous piece of music about something that had a lot of meaning for him. Although the lyrics can be understood universally, for many years George was closely associated with the Hari Krishna movement. One of the pictures in the video shows him and I think his wife at the time, with the spiritual leader (guru) of this movement. This was the man who brought the Hari Krishna movement from India to the Western World in the 1960's. George was very charitable toward this movement and bought them a huge mansion in England which was turned into one of their temples. I visited this temple when I traveled to England in the 1970's. At the time Donovan was there too, specifically for an individual meeting with the guru. As far as I know Donovan never had anything to do with the movement after that. George however was a lifelong devotee.
