Lyrics:
Adia I do believe I failed you
Adia I know I let you down
don't you know I tried so hard
to love you in my way
it's easy let it go...
Adia I'm empty since you left me
trying to find a way to carry on
I search myself and everyone
to see where we went wrong
'cause there's no one left to finger
there's no one here to blame
there's no one left to talk to honey
and there ain't no one to buy our innocence
'cause we are born innocent
believe me Adia, we are still innocent
it's easy, we all falter
does it matter?

There were 1990s women singers that just had the most beautiful voices and songs. Jewel, Joan Osborne, Sarah Maclachlan, Natalie Imbruglia. This voice, music, and lyrics are brilliant.

Adia was my little sister's and my favorite song to sing together in my old 77' Camaro. She was murdered by her boyfriend in 1999. She was 20 and a single mother. This song still speaks down to my soul and depicts what I'd say to her. She died a addict. Please tell your family how much they mean to you every chance you get bc you never know when you'll be left with a song.

I don’t think Jewel understands what suffering is in the way that Sarah does and it comes through in Sarah’s music. Sarah writes music that is way more relatable to people because she has suffered. @@k.h.4757 Unfortunately your gravely mistaken about Jewel. You see she actually understands American cultural society. Just listen to her classic song "Who will save your soul?" Poverty is not just environmental ... sometimes it’s just the mentality in your environment... you grow to be defensive... sometimes for no reason at all! Sarah was in her element at her peak; like once in a while a warm summer comes and envelopes your life with something good and positive and real and you feel so good and youthful that's the way she looks in the videos for this record. I lived in a small old apt in central Hamilton Ontario and I came home on hot summer days and slipped into a cool bath after my day working construction and building and I listened to this record a lot when I did that. This is absolutely why I love listening to this song while writing my own story about friendship and forgiveness. There was a girl who almost killed her friend's sister by accident because she was too distracted while driving which ended her relationship with her friend. She was filled with guilt and her friend couldn't forgive her for what happened to her sister, even though her sister still survived. As the time goes by, she somehow had able to forgive herself even though the accident is still a scar to her, because that accident ended her friendship with her friend. In the end, when her friend's mother got cancer, she wanted to atone for the sin that she had done back then. She wanted to donate her organ to her former friend's mom. Her friend's mom lived, but the girl died.

Wow, so many years ago. I spent one day filming as an extra in this video in LA in the late 90's. Sarah was a down to earth, nice person I remember. I probably heard this song 1000 times that day as they just keep playing it over and over, but I didn't get tired of it at all. I was in some good footage that got cut, but still in some background for the final. Fun experience.

@@slacktoryrecords4193 I meant more in retrospect. There were so many great artists that were really big but there's only so much room in the way back machine, and they can tend to fall down the memory hole and just aren't referenced as much relative to other bands that were may no more widely appreciated at the time. I think of folks like Collective Soul, Natalie Imbruglia, Natalie Merchant, Blues Traveler, Blind Melon, etc... Sometimes, if younger folks are aware of them at all, it might be more from a meme than from knowing their actual work. There are lots of videos of younger folks reacting to songs from past decades, and some huge artists from that time often seem highly under-represented. Even folks like Smashing Pumpkins or Alanis Morrisette seem to be highly under-known these days relative to their size at the time. Maybe I'm being selective in my sampling, I dunno.

This song is so beautiful; it brings me to tears, especially when Sarah sings "we are still innocent" at the beginning of the chorus and the music plays the diminished chord, it's so beautiful, I don't know if I can fully describe it, but it touches me deep in my soul. Also, Sarah McLachlan is so expressive in this video. She has a beautiful voice. Her body language and facial expressions are so emotive. And she is so naturally beautiful!

This song is great in so many ways. It's from the constant hit dropping 90's while it gives a nostalgic feeling of classic 70's ballads like The BeeGees "How Deep Is Your Love" and flows with that 80's wave of pop hits like The Bangles "Eternal Flame". I especially love its steady paced beat and strike of the cymbals throughout parts of the song, topped off with Sara's beautiful voice. This song is flawless!

this song has always made me cry, and i don't even really know exactly why. ...but something just occurred to me: maybe this song makes me cry for things i've never really done as good a job of handling as i've thought. i suppose, though, that crying my eyes out over them - at 11:08 p.m. on a Monday night - is preferable to taking it out in some horrible way on myself or someone else. these tears are really a saving grace. if you're reading this, well ... maybe you feel this way, too. in that case, go ahead and cry. i understand, and i promise you that tomorrow will be a better day. x/o

Wow, beautiful sounding music with a soulful message. There was so much of that in the 90's. Where did it all go?
