Tanjiro is absolutely not manipulating Inouske intentionally, he's just that sincere and oblivious lol. These 3 are absolutely a disaster together

I actually interpreted the Inouske thing as less that he doesn't like people being nice to him and more that he sees Tanjuro as a new rival to fight/compete with, however every time he tries provoking Tanjuro he deflects it with kindness frustrating Inouske.

Inosuke's biggest skill is he always adapts to any environment and continuosly trains his weak points. I know it was silly when he was continuosly headbutting the trees but he was actually training his head because he thought that it was weak after he collapsed because of Tanjiro's headbutt.

It is so funny how shockingly different inouskes face is to his manners and voice. Adam thought he was maybe disfigured and therefore hiding his face (as most of us probably assumed). Subverting the trope, and making him hide that he is really pretty is the ultimate gag and breaking some of the tension 😂

I think that a good way to understand Inosuke's behaviour is to keep in mind that he has zero social clues or cultural background: the only interactions he ever had are based on the "survival of the fittest", so his immediate response in interacting with others is to assert his strenght and dominance, which is why he and Tanjiro don't understand each other. I think it's quite normal to find Inosuke irritating at first, but I look forward to your future reactions because he gradually became my favorite character (along with Tanjiro) and I think his development is really well executed.

Inosuke is the personification of a wild boar. Short sighted, direct, determines hierarchy by strength and untamed. I was just like Adam in my first go-around in that I was less annoyed by Inosuke than I was by Zenitsu.

30:00 zenitsu was in his normal state, it’s just when it comes to girls he gets a 200% boost in courage and strength for some reason.

Inosuke is trying to rile up and compete with Tanjiro... when they were eating, he went and 'stole' Tanjiro's food. He also went ahead on their sleeping mattress "first come, first serve". It's like, "Ha! I'm first! You're too slow!" Kind of thing for me. But Tanjiro is not even taking the hint that Inosuke is trying to compete, but just replies in his usual good manner way. And Inosuke's getting mad at that. That's how I understand it instead of 'getting shy of compliments"

For me this episode is the first comedy in this series, which gave me the feeling of “half time “ , cause the story till episode 13 is so serious, sad and exciting at the same time.

the characters on the swords and their uniform usually say something like 'destroy' or 'destroy all demons'. this is just a fun break episode to get the gang together with out having to fight against a demon life and death. zenitsu can access aspects of his power when hes not scared of a demon, this is being played as a joke. its literally all supposed to be a light hearted joke i think you guys are just not familiar with the tone and tempo of the japanese sense of humor.

Also, I hope they’ve noticed that Inosuke’s legs aren’t hairy, he just wears animal hides. I think it was bear fur and mountain goat fur or something, I can’t really remember. It was such a blast when I first watched this tho

So Inosuke beat the demon slayer kid that 'trespassed' his mountain because that was his territory, like an animal marking its ground. He learned about the Final selection and demons, took the poor demon slayer's sword and off he went and passed the Final selection, probably selected his own ore or they just selected one for him since he left as soon as he passed the Final selection and they made him his katana/blade and sent it to him.

Inosuke isn't a girl. he's just ungodly pretty for the comedy factor. It will probably get revisited in the last season tho

Zenitsu was awake while yelling and trying to fight Tanjiro. Its just that his rage overcame his normal cowardice, haha. Don't worry, the show generally makes it pretty clear when Zenitsu is asleep. 💙 I didn't really mind this episode, but I'm also a sucker for episodes that establish and flesh out the character interactions going forward. I find the sibling energy from the three of them to be funny, but perhaps one needs to be a specific headspace to really enjoy the 'mania' as you put it. 😆

Love watching your reactions to anime when you're both watching it for the first time. And as many others have probably commented, Tanjiro's handling of Zenitsu and Inosuke comes from him being the eldest of the family and he feels like he has to take care of and keep everyone in line.

Inouske completely forgot about Nezuko as soon as he found Tanjiro who beat him in that fight, and now to prove that he is the strongest, he was headbutting trees to make his forehead stronger and trying to think he can compete with Tanjiro with literally everything they do, and in the end he kept thinking why Tanjiro is not feeling the need to compete with him even though he riled him up all day, he just couldn't think anymore. He is really a one punch guy, he doesnt yet understand about Kindness

I love episodes that are pure chaos lol! They are really funny and light and a nice break. You have to not think about it too hard to enjoy the chaos!

My initial reaction to hearing Inosuke's story about his swords is that he used the sword he took from the Demon Slayer to pass the final selection and then had the ore he was given (from passing Final Selection) be made into his two custom serrated nichirin swords. However, that is entirely just a narrative forged from my own inferences and observations, I could be wrong on that as well 😅

It's one of the funniest episodes, I laugh a lot, speaking of comedy episodes this has to be one of the best.

I started watching Kimetsu no yaiba together with you guys after my brother recommended it for about a year haha I didn't like zenitsu either and I still find him a little annoying but I love Inousuke.This episode was very chaotic but the best of the entire season is yet to come! So essentially each character is 133% of that personality trait. Innouske stole the sword and went to slelection, but once he was at selection he got the new swords made is how I beleive it worked. I thought Tanjiro was being a super nice guy to Inosuke about the burial stuff. I didn't feel like he was being manipulative. It seemed like the other characters thought that Tanjiro's explanation of why Inosuke didn't want to bury the dead was wrong. Tanjiro is a pretty genuine guy.

Zenitsu passes out whenever he's frightened. It's like it's his subconcious moving when he's sleep fighting.

Inosuke's growth over the rest of this season, the movie, and the next season is some of the best I've seen in anime. He went from one of my least favorite characters to in my top 3.

Inosuke is my favorite character of the main trio and to be honest in the whole series as an anime only who's seen all 3 seasons. He is a common anime trope, I call this the "battle whore" trope people that are obsessed with competition generally but in battle shonens like this that means being obsessed with battle with Inosuke definitely is. Battle is the litmus test for Inosuke on who's strong and who to follow, it informs how he acts based upon battles outcomes.

Inosuke is absolutely wild lol like really both he and Zenitsu come in like a whirlwind 😂 He also is a guy, he's just really really pretty and Zenitsu was THAT shocked at the difference between his face and everything else so that's why he blurted that out lol I think seeing Tanjiro handle Inosuke really shows that he's also far from normal like Adam said. He's very kind and considerate, honest, etc. but to an extreme. To the point that Zenitsu looked reasonable for questioning he and Inosuke's sanity in the burial scene 😂 I also love how downright confused Zenitsu looked at first when Nezuko came out of the box. For sure he thought there was some horrifying monster in there and then it was just ✨Nezuko✨ even if she is quite strong in her own right 😂

I keep up with Demon Slayer, and I like it, but I've always said that it has a tone problem. When it's good, it's really good with its action scenes, emotion, plot, and depth of characters and concepts. When it's not any of those things, it's this episode. I don't entirely understand the decision to have such extreme ends of two different genres in one show as it leads to a discordant clash of "dark, drama-filled action" and "goofy, crack comedy". The show is loved by fans, tho, so I know a lot of people like it the way it is, and that's fine. But I entirely understand your feelings about this episode (as well as Zenitsu and Inosuke in general). You are not alone. lol

Just to clear things up: Inosuke is 100% a man lol the only reason that him being a girl is mentioned is because they thought his face was too pretty for a guy. And Inosuke was just born in the mountains and lives like a wild animal, therefore explaining his fighting style and his simplistic attitude of just fighting everything because that’s basically an animal’s instinct in the wild. I personally don’t think Tanjiro was manipulating Inosuke, I think that was his honest words and Inosuke is just so simple that he was inadvertently manipulated to help And lastly at the end, I think that Zenitsu was just mad and grabbed his sword it would have been much more dramatic had he actually fell asleep 😅 I hope I answered but some questions but I’m sure there’s other people in the comments that will explain it as well

He did not pass out at all. That's Normal Zen when it comes to ladies. He's *terrible* with women. And Inosuke was raised by wild boars, that's why he's out of control. The three of them together are hilarious. And Adam figured it out. They are all on the far ends of their character spectrum and they slowly come towards the center.

In the end Zenitsu was just begrudging Tanjiro for hanging around with a cute girl all the time when Tanjiro made him let go of a girl when they got together.

This episode was also hard for me to watch on first viewing. The second, third, etc. times it's much more palatable. With the benefit of knowing the characters better, I can understand what they're thinking and it doesn't feel so chaotic. Zenitsu and Inosuke are still pretty wild though, and it's totally fair to find the episode unpleasant to watch at this point in the viewing journey. Adam's observation that the characters in this show are pushed to the extremes of their defining points is interesting. That along with the tonal whiplash between the comedy and the dark serious scenes make it feel more "cartoon-like" to me than a lot of other anime that have a more grounded style.

9:52 It’s funny you said this because, as a transgender man myself, Inosuke is one of the fictional characters that helped “crack my egg” (a common term in the trans community, basically means when we fully realize/accept our identity). I was immediately SO envious of the ripped masculine bod + pretty face combo, it was one of many moments where I had to take a step back and be like “ok bud maybe it’s time to do some soul-searching and stop living in denial” ahaha 😅 Side note/fun fact: Hormone therapy alters muscle mass and fat distribution, so a similar physique is attainable for trans guys who take testosterone. There’s even a whole subculture of trans male bodybuilders! (This doesn’t apply to Inosuke of course, he’s not trans and medical transition wouldn’t have been a thing back then anyways - but since you’re both athletes I thought you might find that interesting in general. It’s really neat how resilient and adaptable the human body can be 😊) Great reaction as always!

The thing with watching other anime after starting with Haikyuu is that you'll get whiplash from the exaggerated character archetypes most anime used. Haikyuu is very grounded even for anime standards with it's subtle character writing and the brand of comedy used in demon slayer is much closer to what most other shows use. Being loud, exaggerated, etc is very common in most shows. Hope this doesn't deter you from enjoying other shows moving forward and just don't put too much thought into the overly animated way they go about making the characters interact with each other.

Unless I didn't reach or watch something later in the story, Inosuke feels insecure about his pretty face since people would be less likely to take him seriously or as a tough fighter and such. So, that's why he wears the boar mask to hide his pretty face.

However, Inosuke's distinctly masculine and muscular build made him realize right away that he was a boy. Inosuke is a beautiful boy, but as you can see, he is very wild and rough. 15:02 Tanjiro did not provoke Inosuke, but genuinely cared about him. Tanjiro is an honest boy, so he has no idea of provoking people to get his way. But Inosuke felt like Tanjiro was telling him that he was weak, which made him angry. Inosuke said, ``There's no point in burying the corpse of creatures, so I'm not doing that,'' but Tanjiro really misunderstood that he couldn't do it because his wounds were hurting him." So the children thought, "He's so off( =Tanjiro's thought is so off).'' It's a template for a gag in which the character's honesty causes an unexpected deviation from common sense.

Yes, the introduction of what will be the main trio is VERY unhinged to start lmao, but this is also the "worst" of it. I mean Zenitsu will still have his Zenitsu moments, but they get toned down as it goes on especially after season 1 and then he's just a cinnamon roll. For Inoskue he was pretty unlikable at first, but he becomes one of the favorites as time goes on when they start to mesh. Just words of encouragement so you know it won't be as extreme as it has been between them for the last few episodes as time goes on haha😆
