I’ve been putting our house to bed for a very long time, not just the kitchen, but fluffy pillows, turning down the beds, turning side table lamps on, picking up the bathroom, outside lights on if someone is not home yet, prepping our coffee, making sure trash is out and laundry gathered. What a blessing. Start by lighting a candle.. my house loves it I know it. Then waking it up in the morning with coffee brewing, opening doors and windows on a nice day.. making beds etc.. love your channel.

I cannot get over the fact that I am so different from you, and yet watching your videos calms me down in a way that amazes me! I’m 43, two boys, I live in Portugal and have a full time job out of the house (or working remotely nowadays). I’m super stressed about many things, my life is in many ways chaotic and I feel I have no time for anything. And then I watch and listen to you, and I am at peace. please beware that you are really making a difference in somebody’s life, other than your family’s, just by being you! That is amazing, at least to me! :) I wish you the best!

3 kids, washing dishes by hands, baking and making food from scrach - our kichen is often a mess. Under the table is sooo much food and our 1 year old eats from there, but I think that maybe its good for his immunity :D I vacuum usually twise a week and the floor is tidy about 2 hours, until we next eat
@VeronicaCostaF
@VeronicaCostaF Жыл бұрын
This is totally normal. I still remember I would wash the floor every day but if I washed it every time we ate it wasn't too much :D I'm almost again in that phase. Now my youngest eats little portions and I give most of the food at this time but next month will start the mess on the floors. Don't worry it will get better

I have the most genuine genuine question, no sarcasm at all. Who watches your children when you’re doing this whole routine? Or they entertain themselves? I only ask as I have a 3.5 year old and 1 year old, and I would NEVER be able to do all this without them tugging at me. Anyway! Thank you
@nicoleelle1843
@nicoleelle1843 Ай бұрын
Hi :) I have been watching Sarah's videos for years and have noticed she has quite a few practices she has stuck with so... My assumption is that there is a combination of things happening here... First- The routine starts right after dinner-time, which appears to be relatively early for them- maybe around 4pm? as she later mentions the children were in bed by 6:55pm on this night, and that this is earlier than normal for them as her husband was going out. So the children are around (as seen in the first few mins of the video), she mentions at 07:05 that they use this time to wind down for the evening and often help out, they probably do talk to her, tug at her (as you mentioned) but these moments will be edited out of the video- however in other videos I have seen clips of the younger children playing with her dress/skirt and following her around as she works. Second- Sarah has spoken a few times before about how she has practiced 'quiet time' with all of her kids since they were very young so once they have finished helping out they probably go to play and read or whatever else, also because there are 5 of them they likely keep each other entertained, and the eldest, Ivy, is 7/8? (I think) so Sarah probably trusts her to let her know if the little ones are getting up to something they shouldn't be. Third- Her husband is also present in the first few minutes of the video helping with the routine, he also works from home meaning he is likely to be there managing the children alongside her the majority of the time. I assume that if there is an occasion when he isn't around it is more difficult to get everything done than we see here (or she may have help from others). At 07:36 she goes on to mention that the video is now resuming after leaving the kitchen for a while to put the children to bed, so from this point onwards in the video/evening that is where they are, whilst she finishes up the rest of her jobs. Therefore, the routine takes place over the course of an entire evening with breaks taken, rather than all in one quick session. Finally, it is important to remember that this is Sarah's job. She earns money showing us her daily life, so even with the time it takes her to plan and edit her content, plus do other work such as sponsorships, Instagram, her website- She still probably has more time to do these kinds of things than the average person who works 8-12 hours, has to commute etc, and THEN come home and do all the housework. To sum it up, Sarah is an awesome wife, mama, and homemaker. She is clearly super organised and works hard to keep it that way. But try not to forget that she has found a way to cheat the system by combining house-work and work-work, AND has her husband at home too! (Sorry for the ramble, I hope this helps to answer your question)

Hi! For any smell use an apple! Especially in the fridge. Just make sure to peel it - it's the flesh that soaks up smells like magic. But sometimes I'm in a rush and just cut it in half and it works just fine.. My mom has been doing this since I can remember. There's always apple pieces in our fridge :)

Just a hint on cleaning your Swedish dish cloths. Put them in the sink or a flat bowl. Add a dishwasher tab. Pour boiling water over and leave for an hour or so overnight. overnights. This sanitizes them and I find better than running thru DW.

A wooden playpen in the kitchen can help. The kids mostly want to know you are there. Kitchen toys of their own, so they can 'cook' while you do, can work. And two year olds love washing up (unbreakable and unsharps of course). Also, don't feel guilty if your kids fuss a bit while you are finishing a task, it helps them learn patience. 💛

Closing the kitchen routine when babies are littles can be finished once babies are to bed. I used to do some cleaning but once babies went to bed around 6-6:30 I would finish up by myself so I would still have time for them 😉😊

I love closing my kitchen at night, I sleep so much better knowing I get to wake up to a beautiful kitchen. Closing the kitchen is part of my nightly reset of our main floor aka our homeschool/play area and living room. I also like to tend to my herbs, veggies, kombucha, sourdough and anything I have fermenting and tuck them all in at night 😂 but by far my favourite is wiping down the counters when everything is finished ❤ homemaking is such a dream.

I do this each and every night myself it just makes me feel so good and if I didn’t do it, there’s no way I could sleep. I also go through and empty all the garbage cans through the house so that the next day we start with a fresh slate. And after each shower, I spray my tub with vinegar and dawn dish soap and a sprayer bottle. Let it sit for a few minutes and then after I brush my teeth and wash my face I scrub the tub and rinse it real quick and then it’s always nice and clean for the next day. ❤

My Lebanese husband remembers kitchen closing growing up, and it helped his Mom in organizing home life. Homemaker duties need to have an end during the day and getting everyone to wind down is important. Had an American upbringing so this wasn't done and learned with our marriage what this was about. Is so helpful because so true Moms get tired and just need a chance to reset after a long day. The hustle and bustle must settle down and kitchen closing helps set that up so that a nice rhythm is found

Always an inspiration, glad you are back on KZfaq. That’s the kind of content I love to watch. I would like to see a video from you on minimalist kitchen. How do you keep your kitchen clutter free and tidy with a large family. What appliances you use and how do you store them out of sight. Also I noticed you don’t use a dish rack, what do you do with small miscellaneous dishes that get handwashed throughout the day, sippy cups, pots and pans etc

I find it really nice to see how you have been evolving! For a not so pleasant smell: we always use a bit of fresh coffee (powder, not beans) in a small dish. It absorbs bad odors. Or citrus juice. There is nothing better than closing one’s kitchen each evening. As soon as dinner is done, the dining table is cleaned off, leftovers and condiments put away, the dishes are done (I hand wash everything so washing, drying and putting away is done), countertops and table cleaned and disinfected, floors swept with a very quick swish of the mop, the coffe set up and the sink cleaned. As I prep all our meals and snacks for the week, there is not much prepping for the next day’s meals. Lights off and then relaxing with my husband (empty nesters who have always worked outside the home full time). There are many who will put aside daily cleaning and prepping, due to “your children are small for a short time” theory, but I have found that doing a good deep clean and declutter about 3 times a year allowed me to do maintenance cleaning and decluttering and picking up after each activity daily allowed me more RELAXED time with our children because I wasn’t thinking about the overwhelming mess in the kitchen or the living room and we all were just calmer and more relaxed during the days and evenings because we didn’t have to work or relax around our messes from that day or even week. Daily resets keeps the mind and body the ability to appreciate time with family, plus, by doing these daily pick ups and cleaning, it trains your children in the way they should go as they get older and live on their own, it’s not just about our faith and raising them as believers, training them includes daily living skills like this and finances and laundry and how to repair things like around the house and autos and yard work- we are to raise them on how to be independent and productive in all things. Bless you Sarah and Kieran for being whom God called you both to be.

I’ve never thought of it as “closing my kitchen”, but this is something that I too do every night. Like you said, I just sleep better knowing that my kitchen is ready for the next morning. Unfortunately, we have a couple of our adult children living with us, we would never turn them away, but they sure do mess us my kitchen once I close and go to bed! I love them more then anything, and they will always be welcome to come back home, but I wish there was a way I could lock them out of my kitchen after I cleaned it…😂😂😂

I love you, Sarah! It’s hard to close your kitchen when your husbands up at midnight making food and messing up the kitchen lol

Lighting a match, works for smells. We use it in the toilet 😆 Edit: Question. You mentioned about putting used cloth into the laundry. Do you wash them with your regular load of other clothes? I always keep mine in a basket to accumulate but I don't really like it and would like to know how you do it. Thanks, Sarah! 😊

I'd love to know how you figured out how many containers you needed for leftovers and storage of your everyday pantry. I haven't been taught any of these kitchen/food prep/cooking because my mum hated mess. But, I know how to clean haha.

I was asking this question myself since getting married but for me, it's really learning by doing in the sense that it depends how much you cook and eat and how much you use containers for bake goods or homemade jelly. Looking back, I'd start with two sets of small, medium and large containers and go from there. Hope that's a bit helpful 😆

I would love to see what a full day looks like for your family. How do you fit all of your homemaking responsibilities in between the little ones who need you more and the homeschooling while also spending intentional time with your family. I have 3 under 4 and I find myself just catching up on housework all day or feeling like I have to have certain things done before I can do anything else. Also, the energy depletion is real after around 11 am. I’d just love to see what your daily routine looks like. ❤️ ps. Been watching since the makeup days and had my 3 babies alongside you. 😊

I thought the same thing! Like how on earth is the kitchen tidied and all kids in bed by 7pm?
@jessiel0uu

@@Beccyd8680 the only way I can do that is to let my kids watch tv all day. I try my best to let them help me with things but it makes it take longer and sometimes I just want to get it done. Plus the tantrums stop everything for a bit. I think possibly Kieran works from home so that’s helpful but I’d just like to see what a full day looks like for her so I can get some tips on scheduling my day to work for my family and not the other way around. ❤️

Any suggestions for a mum who come back home from work at 23:00 or 24:00? This is my dream to finish day at 19:00 that would be my dream come true and be able to relax.

I totally feel this! Just remember there are seasons for everything. I can for sure say right now I am not in a season to be "closing my kitchen" 😂 especially not as beautifully and seemingly "perfectly" like Sarah does, but I do know that I am doing things now that I wasn't several months ago and so much changes so quickly a lot of times.. it's all seasons. You go at your own pace and if nothing else just watch Sarah's videos as entertainment 😊 I've gone through periods where I knew I couldn't even watch these videos as entertainment because they made me feel so inferior and hopeless so I intentionally took a break from KZfaq to stop the comparison entering in. You're doing great, PPD is HARD. But it's only for a season, and remembering that helps ❤
