Sas de Stria - A chapter of WWI history on the Dolomites front

Probably we Ladins born between the 70s and 80s can consider ourselves somewhat fortunate. Fortunate because many of us had grandparents or acquaintances who first experienced the First World War on the Dolomite front. So really just a few kilometers from Ustaria Posta, for example on Sas de Stria, Lagazuoi, and Col di Lana.
Stories which, recounted by the last generation to have lived through them, have been able to pass on to us directly with their voices such historical events surrounded many times by grief and despair at having lost a loved one but, after all, demonstrating a great spirit of survival.
As parents, all we can do is teach and pass on such stories to our children. It is precise because of what is left of history in our mountains that it is made more accessible. Hopefully, they will understand that in a conflict only the people in any situation, on any front, stand to lose.

Wir haben die Tour heute mit unseren Kindern gemacht. Spannend und sehr beeindruckend. Zum Abschluss trinken wir jetzt einen Kaffee im Ustaria.

Quanto dolore proviamo ancora adesso pensando a quei ragazzi sbattuti in mezzo ad una guerra senza senso, a sparare ad altri ragazzi che provavano lo stesso terrore. Un commosso ringraziamento a te, caro Igor che, tra il penoso ricordo di una tragedia, hai accostato la struggente bellezza delle vostre montagne 🙏🧡

Penso che ricordando questi fatti, proprio vedendole e toccandole di persona, le generazioni future magari non fanno gli stessi errori. Il problema é quando tutto va perso e ci si scorda di quello che é accaduto.

Sono stato a luglio sul Sass de Stria ,zona bella e affascinante per la sua storia. Personalmente la postazione militare che mi ha più emozionato è la cengia Martini con la galleria di 1km che porta verso il Lagazuoi. Il maggiore Ettore Martini è stato con i suoi soldati un eroe di guerra. Turisticamente mi piace fare oltre la galleria il sentiero dei Kaiserjager.Sempre un piacere seguire i tuoi video👏.

Hard to imagine young men spending weeks or months up there during wartime. Must have been terrifying. I'm looking forward to seeing you all back on the skis soon.

Buongiorno Igor, non finirò mai di ringraziarti di farmi vivere e vedere cosi la Val Badia con questi video sempre meravigliosamente fatti e molto descittivi, oltre agli stupendi panorami che circonda la splendida valle. La prima volta che ho scoperto la Val Badia è stato nell' estatte del 1978. Ed oltre le passeggiate che si facevano a gioirni alterni col giorno di riposo, appunto nel giorno di riposo andavo nei ghiaioni della Varella a cercare i reperti della Prima Guerra Mondiale. Purtroppo, così ho capito che cosa hanno vissuto i nostri avi durante quel periodo triste della storia d'Italia. Mi sono appasionato molto a quel periodo cercando repert ie visitando postazioni oltre a leggere dei libri. Grazie di nuovo e un abbraccio da una persona che ama la Val Badia in modo visceraleanche se non è autoctono.

Caro Antonio, grazie mille per le belle parole e la passione nel cercare reperti sono riuscita mio malgrado anche a trasmetterla ai bambini. Certe zone cerco anche di evitarle visto che non riusciamo ad andare alla meta in quanto sono fermi a destra ed a sinistra a cercare 😂😂

che ricordi fatta al tramonto 40manni fa con mio padre... ritorno con le pile.... e pensare che anche qui gli italiani attaccavano da sotto per non parlare del Col di Lana....follie della guerra...complimenti

Immer wieder die Gedanken an die schlimme Zeit vor über hundert Jahren… Unfassbar, was die Soldaten damals erleben mussten! Wurden die Stellungen erst in letzter Zeit zugänglich gemacht? Mein Mann war vor etwa 23 Jahren dort. Er meint, dass es damals noch nicht so viel zu sehen gab! Wir sind schon so oft dort vorbei gefahren, jetzt müssen wir unbedingt mal anhalten! 😊

Hallo, ehrlich gesagt war früher vieles mehr zugänglich. Aber wegen Sicherheitsgründen (bei einigen Stellungen wenn man nicht den Weg kennt dann kommt man wirklich nicht mehr raus) wurde auch vieles zugeschüttet und einbetoniert. Aktuell werden die meistbesuchten Stellungen immerwieder imstande gehalten. Darum vielleicht schaut es ein bisschen anders aus als vor 23 Jahren.

Pensavo che il sasso de stria fosse un sentiero molto difficile invece è magnifico. Aspettiamo un video /escursione con la prossima neve che sta arrivando !!Ciao continuate così....

Il Sas de Stria ha tutto. Seguendo il sentiero normale si arriva facilmente in cima. Poi comunque a noi piace fare le nostre varianti. Devo dire che molte volte tra una trincea ed una galleria mi sembra di sbucare sempre in un altro posto. Questo anche se lo ho giá fatto una miriade di volte.

Bellissimo video: molto istruttivo. La prima guerra mondiale sulle alpi fu guerra di posizione. Fu combattuta fino a 3000 MT di quota mi pare. Un saluto da Barcellona.

🤩herrliche Tour...wir sind 2021 den Klettersteig hoch und dann auf den Hexenstein..und am nächsten Tag den maratona gefahren..ein Traum..diesen Sommer sind wir mit dem Womo am Valparolapass gestanden und am nächsten Morgen auf den Lagazuoi hoch und den Tunnel runter..unglaublich...was sind wir heute nur verweichtlichte Burschen....was mussten diese Männer im Krieg aushalten..

Come sempre bel video e soprattutto belle riflessioni. Ogni volta che salgo li, sul Lagazuoi, le Tofane o anche più vicino casa mia nell'altopiano di Asiago e vedo i resti di trincee, forti, baracche mi chiedo sempre perché? Perché condannare delle persone a quella vita di freddo, fame, sporco, fatiche oggi inimmaginabili per noi, perché?
