Some horrible comments here ,There’s thousands that love watching these shows ,seeing the work they’re doing,and having fun while doing it,Michael has his own vlog now about his families chateau and he got thousands of followers the first week ,Stephanie is a very nice woman ,she cares about the chateau and is doing it up sympathetically ,The people she has working get board lodging and food,they get the chance to visit France,There is still a 16 th century part which has a spiral stone staircase ,She has done a wonderful job ,and she hasn’t filled it up with cheap tutt,She has a lot of antique furniture and China ,she’s made luxurious silk curtains for almost every room,don’t watch if you don’t like it

sometimes the old fashioned way is the best way. Applying paint stripper to those old hinges and cleaning them really well, then apply DW40 or some other lubricant, then a punch and hammer should do the trick. Time consuming but effective

How is it Stephanie still manages to look nice when working or painting. I always have dirt, paint, spider webs etc , all over myself. Even on her videos, Diaries of a Chateau, she paints whole rooms in her good clothes. I'm impressed

I hear some negative comments on this page about the owners of this chateau and the fact they're trying to repair it ! I say boo to you It's obvious the French government or its people do not care about these places ! At least in some way these people are trying to save them !

It's just that we don't have the money to fund repairs.. So I'm glad these people are keeping our heritage alive

I think you don't imagine the cost of maintaining the historical places in France, they are so many... The french government and the french people try to do their best! Your criticism toward them is unfair. AND, i think if an army of french rich men came in UK to buy the castles, I am not sure your reaction will be the same... IN my opinion the french people tolerate pretty well the british buying houses in france. And they are numerous to do it. ( from a french in burgundy)
@tanjamijic51284 жыл бұрын
@@parsifal1869 So then what? Just leave them to rot, only because you don't want people from other countries to inhabit and care for something that is french. I don't get the logic behind your comment.

@@tanjamijic5128 You miss my point. I think it's a good thing. I don't like the criticism toward the french, because the most part acccept this, and I am not sure in UK or US people would let french buy historical places.

Yep because we have thousands of them, literally. There are too many for us to fund. There are also plenty of Dutch, Germans, Belgians etc doing the same thing. It's all good if they can carry on the heritage... in the end we will still lose some but that is part of the cycle.

I wonder why the French aren't protecting their historic land and buildings much more, everyone from outside seems to be buying in on a cheap. Bit more protectionism I would say.
@julieautheatre3 жыл бұрын
There are at least 45 thousand Chateaux in France, so it seems obvious that the government is not able to look after all of them, due to funding, the management it would require... it simply isn't the role of the state to take care of every single Chateau. They maintain the most important ones (like Versailles, Chenonceau, Fontainebleau...) and as a French person, I am very grateful for that much :) Also, as pretty as the Chateaux are in this show, they are of little historic significance therefore of little interest to the French State ! While I find it unfortunate that French people don't rise up to the task of taking care of our beautiful heritage, I am happy foreigners do so in our place :D
@DavidJohnson-dc8lu3 жыл бұрын
@@julieautheatre 1000-7000
@GardensOfChina3 жыл бұрын
@@DavidJohnson-dc8lu that's wildly under the number. You have to consider what qualifies as a castle. France truly has thousands and thousands of buildings with at least one tower that used to belong to fortifications. Some of it is due to Franco-British wars actually. Apart from having abolished aristocracy, there is the fact that there is a limit to how much heritage a country can sponsor (we don't have a National Trust). On top of castles there are churches, monasteries, villas and gardens, palaces, industrial heritage, gallo-roman heritage, prehistoric art, etc. Honestly if anything we are too protectionists, we like to mummify our cities - see the restoration of Notre Dame.
