Satisfying Sewer Clog Unblocking - Drain Pros Ep.70
In this video we got called into an emergency job from a disaster clean up company. The basement had approx 3-4" of sewer in the basement that had backed up and was deeper in the lower spots. We had trouble getting the hose through the old lead toilet pipe in the basement and were able to find a clean out under the water by flushing the toilet and seeing where it backed up. To open the drain we hydro scrubbed out approx 60 feet with 4000 psi of water and our penetration nozzle to break up heavy sludge build up and most likely a wad of wipes inside the sewer pipe under the ground. After the drain opened we were able to get about 2" of water estimating approximately 400-500 gallons of sewer down the pipe. The rest of the sewer wouldn't drain do to the clean out being higher in the flood, so the disaster clean up company will come back and pump out the remainder. Its awesome watching that amount of water drain through the pipe after busting open the clog!
Thanks for watching

We had one many years ago like this at a movie theater at a mall. It was at the end of the line and the whole food court ran on the same sewer line. We had to cable it and I think we had to use like 150 ft of cable. The theater had 4 steps down from the food court. The water was up to the 3rd step, the owner shows up. He looks and says i don’t think I’m needed here. LOL he turns and leaves.

Yeah the water heater actually went out the maintenance guy was telling us after so I told him to wait until the water was fully sucked out and the unit dries up before trying to re-fire it! 👍 would have gotten real costly if it knocked both of those out

That was a fascinating one, I wonder how old the house was, especially with rag stone walls. Kind of heartbreaking for the owners, especially when it’s summer and windows are open. I do wonder why people have no clue if, and where any clean outs and floor drains are. I imagine that the floor could be brick too. If that was mine I’d have it written on the wall, or laminated Etc. Has anyone any idea how much disaster recovery cleanup would be for this job, especially as it’s one of the more simple ones I’ve seen, without lots of belongings everywhere.
@DrainPros
@DrainPros 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks English! 👍 the remediation clean up is a costly process.. normally it’s through insurance companies where they require it’s not only to be cleaned but sanitizer so mold doesn’t grown in the future.. a stone basement like this would be less costly but I’d still estimate it to be over a $1000 by the time there done.. a finish basement same situation usually goes well over $10,000’s by the time there done! 👍

Do the wipes that you buy that say suitable for flushing, do they no dissolve? I know that baby wipes do breakdown in septic tanks but I thought the flushable one did. Another awesome video. You probably don’t get paid enough for the amount of chap you have to deal with. Can’t wait for you next video.
@englishruraldoggynerd
@englishruraldoggynerd 4 жыл бұрын
All wipes are bad, and contains plastic. They might say flushable because.... yes, you can flush them. But then they catch on something, snag a fibre, collect grease, solids Etc and become a solid lump you can’t even cut with a knife. The jet can cut through them only because of the intensity of the pressure. They don’t dissolve, in the same way that toilet tissue and kitchen roll, even though made of the same material, don’t. They’re knitted together so they don’t.... cannot .... tear. Put a piece of kitchen roll in a jar with water, lid on, and shake. Put a piece of toilet roll in a jar with water, lid on, and shake. Repeat with a baby wipe. You will suddenly understand how dangerous and irresponsible the manufacturers are saying that they are flushable!
@DrainPros
@DrainPros 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks David! Appreciate the support and English gave a perfect example the wipes don’t break down at all so when there flushing they get snagged and start to create a clog.. once one jams up it’s just a matter of time before the line fully clogs! 👍

English Rural Doggy Nerd thank you for explaining that for me. I did what you said and I now understand why you were saying. Maybe if enough people that have to unclog drains from these things would complain and show these companies what happens that maybe something would change. We can only hope that one day they will,open there eyes and see what they cause and the amount of damage that there products cause for home owners and city sewer systems.

@DrainPros

Definitely would have been helpful.. I was guessing by the end that they didn’t have a flood drain and the clean out i jetted from they had left open and we’re using that for a floor drain.. we see that a lot with old house 👍 it always amazes me that they don’t get constant sewer gas
