Wow wait, its been 2 months? Good lord I'm sorry you guys. After the very long wait for the next Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Gou video, the time has come as I dive into the final arc of Gou and the first answer of this new series: Satokowashi-hen. This arc, like Nekodamashi-hen, is completely anime original, so I couldn't compare it to the visual novel or to the original Deen anime. However we got some extremely massive plot reveals, and some explaining for many of the things that went wrong in this series.. Join me today as we delve into the truth behind the new loops of Hinamizawa with Rena Ryuugu, Keiichi Maebara, Mion Sonozaki, Shion Sonozaki, Rika Furude, and Satoko Houjou.

Since Sotsu is in a month and Satokowashi was a few months ago, this video will serve as both recap and analysis. I hope you enjoy! Also, beans has been pretty against it, but I do mention Umi characters like Bern, Featherine and Lamb in this video since I don't see them as spoilers. I feel like the Higu community already knows about them

My big fear for the next season is everything is going to end in another power of friendship moment. I really disliked the miracle ending of higurashi and thought it undermined a lot of the story (I feel the writer himself thought that which is why he killed everyone in the arc right before it lol) but I don’t want another miracle I want consequences, winners and losers. I hope we get that

Oh and btw today i actually started watching higurashi (the first season fron 2006) and dear god was i scared Now, i am someone who never watches/plays horror (because i get scared easily) but this time i wanted to try to Watch something scary Anyway, if i was Keichi in the Onikakushi-hen I would have done the exact same thing I can understand why he became that paranoic and i would have become like that too

I think another reason why Satoko started spiraling down when she felt abandoned at St. Lucia's Academy is her past experience living in Hinamizawa. The whole village hated the Houjou family because her mom and step dad decided to be for the dam project which led to the Sonozaki family shunning them and getting the whole village against the Houjou family. Even once the parents were dead and the dam project was over they kept condemning Satoko and her brother for things they didn't even do. Rika was the only friend who not only saw Satoko's harassments and bullying by the villagers but also stayed by her side because she knew this was cruel which is probably why Satoko trust her a lot. So when it felt like Rika was abandoning Satoko she couldn't stand the thought of loosing someone who was suppose to be there for her just to kick her to the side for their dreams. Of course this is just my thoughts as someone who mainly read the visual novel of the original higurashi.

Even though I didn’t read the visual novels, even I can see why it happened. Based on what’s she’s been through and rika being there it would feel like she needed her. Another factor was shion standing in as her nae nae. From what we know about shion and how she acted towards satisfy it’s only natural that that could influence sari ko as well.

In my opinion, the whole situation was created a little by both of them: Aside from Eua's involvement, both Rika and Satoko were wrong and are still wrong with each other. Satoko has not yet managed to "move from the past", continuing to remain pathologically dependent on Rika and selfishly wanting to stay with her forever, vehemently rejecting the fact that Rika intends instead to leave Hinamizawa and study at St. Lucia Academy, where she is finally free to ditch the infantile "mask" she wore for 100 years and finally be the "real" Rika Furude. At the same time, however, EVEN Rika was selfish, wishing at all costs that Satoko would come to St. Lucia Academy with her (despite being a high-prestige school and that Satoko is perfectly aware of her hatred of studying and relatively mediocre academic skills) and promising her help for study, although Satoko proudly refused the offer (but I don't blame her for this: Getting help all the time would have meant continuing to be "dependent" on Rika and constantly feeling "inferior" to her .... something that goes completely against Satoko's wishes) ..... and when Satoko has failed to keep up with her or adapt to life at the Academy (which Satoko hated, but which she endured solely for Rika's sake) practically abandoning her to start attend other girls closer to her "level" and during their rooftop battle she even scolded her for not putting in enough effort at St Lucia Academy (whose expectations I repeat, were beyond Satoko's academic capabilities). Of course what Satoko is doing is inexcusable, but ..... in his own act of abandoning her and leaving her behind after selfishly insisting that she come to the Academy with her, Rika hasn't done so much better, in my opinion. Unfortunately, I don't think there is a solution that can reconcile them at this point: Rika made a mistake in asking Satoko to come to the Academy with her, taking her to an uncomfortable and unpleasant environment, completely antithetical to her personality and way of doing things. ..... and Satoko was wrong not to understand Rika's desire to leave what for her was a real "prison" for 100 years (even more so after discovering her actual story, through the vision of its fragments) and to refuse to "let go" for her life and to move in turn to rebuild her own. The only thing that could somehow "improve" the situation at least a little bit, would be a possible return of Satoshi, which would certainly mean something for Satoko.

Had put satoshi returned to satoko after waking up in the ending of sotsu maybe it would possible improve things, but i don't how that'll work and seeing how satoshi might react to see satoko grow up about 6 or 7 years or so at this ponit & it'll be intersting to say the least

This arc has my 2 favourite moments of the season: 1) Eua just casually referencing Umineko and Ciconia stuff, thus softconfirming that the 3 series are indeed VERY connected, and if a certain theory regarding Ciconia become true, even in the same universe. 2) Teppei having a "redemption" episode. Only fucking Ryukishi would take one of the most hated characters of the series and basically 18 years after his introduction and make many of us, including me, feel bad for him. Another thing I should mention is.that all the scenes with Satoko acting like a _certain_ person from Umineko made me giggle so hard. It was present as a theory before, although strangely enough very few believed it, and yet now Gou basically showed who Satoko really is. Or should I say, will be.

Eua's depth to those references got even bigger since in some phase 2 leaks, apparently the Red Sea is mentioned. Although I'm still pretty uncertain if I want to read Ciconia because I still have 2 episodes left of Umi, and I've been doing so much reading lately lmao

Then, since you're still unsure about what the connection between Satoko and Lambda really is, here's a suggestion: play Higurashi first arc (Onikakushi) or watch the Kai anime first episodes and keep in mind the pie trick quiz Keichii use to fool Satoko in the zombie tag game. It will be a huge hint later in Umineko.

I think you really mis-read the "putting yourself below me" comment. She isn't saying Satoko is below her, THAT would be the fucked up thing implying a god complex. She's saying Satoko is placing HERSELF below Rika, putting Rika on a pedastal and assuming there's no way for them to connect as equals because of it. Basically saying that Satoko is creating the barriers between them, not Rika.

Satoko may have (unknowingly) created a "barrier" between them ..... but the fact remains that Rika did absolutely nothing to break it, preferring to leave Satoko behind and enjoy her new friends at the Academy afterwards, despite HER HERSELF had insisted that Satoko come to St. Lucia Academy with her. They both have their share of guilt in this whole thing. Aside from everything however, it is quite evident that this entire "sequel" was conceived with the sole purpose of explaining and justifying the existence of Lambdadelta and its relationship with Bernkastel in Umineko: For a long time people have been confused, not understanding if Lambdadelta was "born" by Takano Miyo or by Satoko herself, since she shared characteristics with both (the attachment to Bernkastel similar to that which Satoko has with Rika, but also a rivalry that often results in wildest violence and brutality, which made her more like Takano). Today we finally got the definitive answer, about how everything happened and why the relationship between Lamba and Bern is what it is.

Honestly, Higurashi has been a really big part of my life, and hearing everything put out in plain words is really interesting to watch! I really appreciate the time and energy you spent making this video, all of the research, you include things that many fans might actually miss (I didn't notice the reversed/fixed statue?!) but also the things that did get noticed, put into plain words and sequences of events. Higurashi is one of this series where you have to drop everything to watch it. Since the first episode my mind has literally been consumed by this show and as a first time Gou watcher, I had to stop myself at Satokowashi-hen to watch the original and Kai and it honestly the best decision. After finishing Gou I’ve started reading the Umineko VN and I plan to finish it before Sotsu releases since they reference characters from that story. I’m currently on the fourth episode and the introduction of Ange so it’s getting really interesting. The last story I was this invested in was probably one One Piece which I started over 10 years ago so that says a lot. Thank you Mr Hunteru for the amazing analysis and I’m super hyped for the next two Sunday’s for more content like this!!

That was definitely worth the wait, for sure. And there's 2 more parts which has the final one landing on the festival, too? Yep, def worth it. Your breakdown again makes a lot of sense as to what happened in the final arc of Gou and how the story for this season is put together. I will say that episode when we find out Satoko is the other looper and she's doing the maiden ritual on Rika ties to how it all happened. The syringe she had sitting next to her was the HS enhancer drug and we got a glimpse of Satoko losing her sanity. Because she showed a lot of weird but loving affection towards Rika but was destroying her nonetheless. So when the last episode showed how she got it, that episode came to mind and pieced it together. This series gets so much more fascinating when you watch it again after awhile and notice these details. The next season for sure is basically two God complexed immortal beings trying to succeed in their futures of happiness while having their deities fight along side them. Though I have a guess that they might bring back Satoshi to break Satoko so Rika could win but that's a theory for another time when the series comes out. I honestly can't wait for the next video to see how you break it down even more, I enjoy them so much!

Exactly! Each arc that's come out has made watching prior arcs again an entirely new experience, which is why I love this series so much. I picked up on a lot after watching Satokowashi and Sotsu's trailer, so I think the next video will be interesting for you guys. I'm ready to watch two victims of God Syndrome fight each other next season tho

Having now finished Umineko and Ciconia phase 1 it's really starting to come together now. I'm proper hyped for Sotsu now and I feel so lucky to be a part of the community at this time when we're just booming with content. Keep up the good work!

And the prank at St. Lucia's WAS a crime. I can't imagine any school anywhere in the world where dropping a heavy object on somebody's head would be considered a simple prank. In many cases, that would be grounds for expulsion.

I find it interesting how lesbian Yandere Satoko strongly parallels Shion in this series. Shown set a bunch of stuff in motion because of her love for Satoshi, even killing a lot of people. And here, we have Satoko more or less doing the same thing. And Shion was originally asked to take care of Satoko by Satoshi, and the two had a pretty decent friendship (as long as Shion wasn't going insane of course)

My favorite part of the main conflict at the end is, no side is truly right or wrong. Rika and satoko both made big mistakes when it comes to communication, and have flawed character traits. Leaving us to come to our own conclusion, which this series has always excelled at. It really makes you think even after watching.

Nah, Rika is in the right, she took satoko in when her parents got ended, opened her house and heart to her, and for 100 years she had to relive one of the 7 or 8 timelines with horrible endings, and when she finally had a stroke of luck, this absolutely deplorable piece of sh*t satoko started kneecapping her every chance she got. What makes it even worse is the fact that satoko got to experience all the 100 fragments that Rika lived through and after witnessing first hand what her best friend had to go through, her first thought was not one of empathy but of malice, she said "ok i just have to break her will and soul again" if you think how to set me back intentionally you ain't a friend of mine, you might as well be my enemy. And that's not even mentioning satoko going out and using the "hinamizawa syndrome" syringe's driving them crazy and violent, basically playing with her friends life's like they are nothing to her, hurting, maiming and scarred them for life because in the end the fragment looping started to bleed out and the people in the other dimensions start to remember things from other parallel dimensions.

Well watching all those fragments probably heavily effected satoko, shes definitely desensitised to the violence, murders, torture and death she's seen and seeing rika kill herself over and over again as to "abandon"certain hinamizawa timelines is probably what got her into the mentality that the only fragment/timeline/world that matters is the world that she ends up choosing.

Satoko is eerily similar to my own life. I don't like seeing my psychology plastered up like this. Abusive childhood. Abandonment issues. Make best friend. 10 years together. Go to college. They meet new people, less time for me. Then betray me and break promises, I call them out and they act above me. I sperg out and get revenge in the shadows to make them return to me. Realize I'm the villain. lol oops

This was such a good watch! I hadn't realized that every time she snaps she's resetting the timeline like that. Idk how that completely went over my head. I also somehow missed that Satoko needs to die after Rika for her to end up in the same fragment as her. Either that or I forgot, but it'll probably be a good thing to keep in mind for the next season. I really enjoyed Teppei's redemption/start of a redemption. While I will forever think he's a trash person, it's nice to see him more humanized like this. I enjoy redemption for any characters honestly. I may not personally forgive them (not that it matters since they're not real and all) but it was cool to see how well handled it was. Satoko not really forgiving him, but still trying to reach for his hand felt so realistic to me. She's still traumatized from everything and it was cool to see him respect her boundaries and be like "yeah you'll probably never forgive me but I'm trying to be better". Like good for him, I don't need him to be forgiven by the people hes hurt so badly, but it's cool to see that he's human and not just Evil. One thing I don't really understand about Satoko starting looping though is how quickly she jumped to "murder is okay". I thought she'd at least hesitate a little for that first loop. Thought I suppose she was already mentally broken enough at that point to just not care. Also I agree, the pencil death was the worst!

Satoko would have seen more than Rika experience, because Satoko ends up stuck in the 100 years and has to actually see Rika's gruesome death time and time again, whereas Rika had the benefit of forgetting how she died each time, meaning that Satoko might be even more effected by the 100 year viewings than we realize as of the end of Gou.

Great video as usual and i know this is just a foreplay. The next 2 videos will be what people want to hear from you a lot. You mostly covered up all the details of Satokowashi so i dont have any smart thing to add to this arc at this point, except i want to mention the very underrated scene in this arc, the conversation between Satoko and Takano about soup. Two greatest masterminds of Higurashi franchise sit in the same room talking about how they do with the soup ingredients after bejng used, which is the metaphor of how these two villains use their resources (the soup stock). Takano will get rid of anyone who is no longer useful to her and she will give up everything if the goal doesnt benefit her. Satoko, on the other hands, prefer keeping reuse the stock even it’s no longer fresh anymore. In this case the *used stocks* are people who got influenced by her looping permanently (no longer ‘fresh’) but Satoko still love keeping them anyway. Why throw the soup stock when you can use them for next meal (the uncle for the example)? That’s mindset is so ‘Satoko’ and it’s terrifying. Every person could be useful for her scheme in the next loop even they are no longer ‘fresh’ and she will used them to their full potential. The reused stocks could be the metaphor of Satoko never want to let things go even they are no longer the same anymore and that’s might be her downfall. That’s why i appreciate Satoko being the final villain of this franchise. A friend betray another friend feels more like ‘Higurashi’ to me more than a puppet master of a big convoluted political conspiracy. That’s all i have to say about the underrated soup scene, and *it isnt even about the soup*. *It is the mindset of the person who think it’s a good idea to reuse the soup stock for another meal even they are no longer fresh anymore...*

It’s weird to me to think of this as a “redemption arc” for Teppei. To me, this just makes him a more realistic abuser. He’s human now, not just some unchangeable cloud of evil. Abusers aren’t usually 100% evil all of the time. They have moments where they are kind to their victims. It’s the cycle of abuse. Those kind moments are what make it hard for abuse victims to leave. It’s so strange though, because Satoko clearly isn’t getting trapped in the abuse cycle seeing as she’s willing to manipulate and kill her uncle when she gets the chance. In a way, it seems like the audience is the one getting caught up in that cycle. We want to see redemption for Teppei-we want the abuse to be over, so we’ll cling to the love bombs we see. That will just make it all the more tragic to us when the abuse inevitably starts back up in a new time loop. But we’ll still hold out hope for a loop where Teppei will try to make things right.

This is my personal head cannon but basically. The reason keichi can remember loops the most is because he is technically one of the most consistent characters in terms of how they react to situations. which is shown by the fact he always looses within games with the club since the girls can predict him or have an upper hand with underhanded tactics. this causes him to remember loops sometimes while other characters that act drastically different do to the butterfly effect won't remember. another reason is because since the first loop involved keichi killing. that means those are the loops most likely to happen on repeat and since they are the loops that happen the most, keichi remembers certain parts of those loops.

Two things you mentioned, Rika not defending Satoko in front of her and St. Lucia's having a solitary confinement cell for students (insanely illegal, of course) totally took me off the immersion in the narrative. But I still hate what Satoko has become. In fact, I never liked her and her "nii-nii" attitude.

Wanted to say something about 42:00 , Satoko also says the same thing when Takano shows her the blobs in the original VN (which means this isn't a new addition, but something that has been here since way before Higurashi Gou) and before Gou the context of this would've been her wish of finally being reunited with Satoshi after being separated from him for so long- which is interesting in retrospect because she's saying the same thing from back when she wasn't a Looper, but it can have a whole new context considering her separation from Rika at St. Lucia. She's once again experiencing 'abandonment' from the person who's closest to her.

I've been craving discussion like this (since none of my meat space friends have watched the series and any discussion of the show on Discord amounts to nothing) and I'm glad I found this little series you're doing. I've read discussions in KZfaq comments from the OPs and EDs, which have given me various angles to look at these events, and you gave me even more. I haven't been this into a series since I watched Madoka Magica back in 2011, and Higurashi has absorbed me into it even more so. Haven't been able to stop thinking about the characters and themes since seeing the end of Sotsu and I hope to see a video on that (despite it just being 'wat da Satoko doin?' for 13 episodes). You got yourself another subscriber from this, and now I'm off to watch your other nearly hour long video on Gou/Sotsu.

This is a really fun video to watch! I enjoyed hearing your thoughts and comments and the jokes (and the fanboying). Don't worry, I won't blame you for wanting to see Keiichi in the punishment outfit cause we've seen the fanservice with girls so many times, they totally robbed us of seeing Keiichi like that. I can see how much Umineko stuck with you since even when you said the Umi stuff would be on another video, you still threw some Umi stuff in here (I can relate cause I'm like that when I liked a series so much. Anything that can remind me of something else, I won't just let go of without pointing it out). To me, if feels that Satoko saying goodbye to her brother and letting him go isn't just cause she knows he might not be savable anymore but also her letting go of the idea that they could be reunited properly. By that I mean, many of her actions in the entire series before Satokowashi is the things she think she should do to get him back but now she's doing her own thing to get Rika back instead. The arc with Teppei surprised me as well like, they're giving him a redemption arc?! I don't hate it though cause as you said, it's an interesting idea. I get why people don't like redemption arcs for those like Teppei but stuff like that in stories doesn't always reflect what the author believes themselves so they shouldn't assume stuff about the ones making the story. It's a story and they will pick what they think is interesting to add to it. Anyways, while the arc did make me feel bad for Teppei, I don't want Satoko to just accept them as family again after everything that happened but I do want him to repent and be a better person (but away from Satoko). I agree with you that both Satoko and Rika messed everything up. They should've talked things out. I was annoyed with the episode where Rika defended Satoko cause I thought after "Why didn't you say that when Satoko was still there to hear it?" and the fact that that wasn't even the first time their classmates said something rude about Satoko so Rika had other moments where she could've been in her defense. On the other hand, I get why Satoko was like that but Rika had offered so many chances for them to bond in St. Lucia and had she taken any of them, she could've found a way to be with Rika and they could've even talked. It's really messed up now and I'm excited to see how Sotsu will handle it all. I'm sorry for the super long comment! The video is awesome and I'm excited for the other ones!

The long comment is a-okay. Yeah Umi is probably going to be something I reference a lot because I really, really like that series now. Like the Sotsu video is going to have a lot of flipping chessboards lol I agree tho, the Teppei arc did make me feel for him. I got a tad emotional on stream during their talk by the road, but Satoko not accepting him was the right move. He's going to need to really work for it. You can't just snap and hope that all that suffering goes away. The stuff about Satoshi was just my take on it, I could be completely wrong about all of that and it could totally just have been an art inconsistency. Its crazy how after hundreds of years of looping, these characters still don't even know how to properly communicate their feelings with one another lol. I hope things will get resolved but I imagine there will be a lot of chaos involved in their resolution

I like how it seems they took into account Satoko's character development depending on whether she was helped by her friends and the town vs. if she wasn't. It made it feel like the many different routes and how things go does make a big difference and not just with who survives and who dies.

I think it shows his true humanity, and it seems to be a very real awakening for him. Not that Satoko has to trust him again, honestly it's perfectly fine for her to reject him. Ohmyword. Yes. I finished the whole anime and man this anime was so good. Threw me off and got me thinking so much. I knew satoko was sus from gou and once riki figured out how she was doing things i jumped up and saw her eyes turn red AND I KNEW SHE HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT. Its crazy how satoko was the onw behind it all and figures why when riku jumps into different time lines she's already been killed even by people we didnt expect it from. Its so damn crazy how she just kept doing it until rika figured it out. Absolutely loved this anime

Another hour spent well! Ugh I've been desperately waiting for this, so happy now! Ouuu just a few things I wanted to let ya know, have you checked out the Higu Gou manga? The Tataridamanshi arc just ended and the ending (and other things) was A LOT DIFFERENT from the anime. In fact, the manga is very different from the anime in many ways and arcs. I'm wondering how will the story play out in both. Also you should totally check out Hinamizawa Bus Stop (if you haven't already). It's kind of the origin story/prototype of the Higurashi we have today, oh and *it's very gay* haha.

Yeah honestly been waiting for this one for a long long time which is again keep up the good work cause I didn't even know some of the details you've mentioned and didn't knew Hanyuu's back story as well so that was a nice character back story to know. But yeah I just realise post video that Satoko and Takano are literally similar on fashion department which just made me laugh when you mentioned it in the video lelz. But yeah seriously tho they both in the wrong. And honestly I can sympathise with Satoko on the school part because post end of school I was literally going crazy because of How bad the school's online system I was in that I couldn't even defend myself (plus my parents especially my mom don't even stand up for me). Not to mention the teachers/higher ups won't even take my complain into consideration because of "Adults are always right and teena/children are always wrong" type of thing which just pisses me off. Honestly I'm lucky that school ended early (while Higurashi was airing) Cause anymore longer and I would have been either gone bat sh#t insane or just go kms. which is why I can see Satoko's point of view on how fcked up school systems can be on a mental level. so after my small school rant I just gotta have to agree that how insane Satoko is regarding on the 100 years rika fragment read. As you said instead of understanding Satoko just takes advantage of it just to make her selfish desire come true. As for Rika yeah 100 years then free is just like a really big sigh of relief (and connecting to the school rant from before is the same thing here because I just graduated and survived a super broken system that is unfair especially for those who are mentally challenged) which is again understandable but Rika not being truthful is just yeah... Not to mention her herself is Selfish As well cause if you think about it if Rika just understands Satoko and Not force her into the school she's going to. Then none of this would happen if they just part ways for a bit to go for dreams you can say. then atleast like they can have an understanding but nope instead of Treating Satoko like a person it's like she's a pet or something similar which is just again selfish for her as well. Literally communication and understanding was the key to not all go downhill. which is speaking of something going down that chandelier was unexpected xD. Not to mention HOW DID SATOKO CLIMB THAT HIGH 🤣 I guess spider Satoko exist or something lelz. Literally tho I only saw a few people question on How Satoko got that Far up but yeah poor girls that they have to witness that traumatic tragedy then again it's like a payback from before for being arrogant? I guess so either way depends I guess??? But still tho I wonder what would happen if Satoko went with the Gang instead of going to the shrine. Cause I'll say it again even after Gou has ended either we could have had the they part ways ending (Cause again if Rika wants that then Satoko should've said that she'll utilise her traps for engineering or some shiz) or If Satoko joined them to Angel's Mort (Which is I think was the dialogue I forgot so take it with the grain of salt but if she joined) then like Satoshi was there in theory atleast, Then this could have ended on a good note as well because we could have seen our fav(?) twin sister we know and love plus a loving reunion between Brother and sister if he was healed then at that point Satoko now has someone other than Rika. Not to mention the interaction of Satoshi and Shion would just be great if that's were the case especially if you think about it being a surprise. Which is why the reveal that Satoko knew about Satoshi being alive was just so Anticlimactic but yet makes sense in a Context where you watch a 100 year snuff film of your friends (Especially best friend) and "family" being taken out in different ways by the people you've know and stuff. Then it would make sense why her reaction would be so anticlimactic because she's now too far gone to be sane. Cause again who dahek is sane enough to watch a 100 year snuff film especially that of your bestest friend. (But yeah as of now that's what I remember from watching the video I'll add more If I remember the past things I've realise while the episodes were being realised one by one and I guess add things I've noticed as well cause this comment is already long enough as is xD thanks for reading if you do get here lelz)
