Could you do me a favour and get your boy to the laces of his hoodie if he is going to lean over an engine with a fan belt centimetres from them. Still a great episode

It’s great to see the young men learning and fixing. It’s a skill that most young people today are not willing to do. Kudos to you for teaching them right and helping them develop a good understanding of mechanics and a good work ethic.

Just an FYI to teach your boys. I noticed him wearing a sweatshirt with the hood strings hanging down while the engine was running and leaning over the belts and pulleys. I had a friend who was working on his truck alone and did that and yeah his got caught and literally was in a bad situation with no help to shut it off. He almost died..just remind them to not have the strings hanging out while doing that..

Thanks for the video Clinton, I was worried that Tucker's hoodie strings would pull his head into the engine at timestamp 30:08. That happened to me while working around the alternator of a running 671 Detroit. I started yelling and my son Morgan came running from the helm and turned the motor off and helped me get the sweater off. Scared the heck out of me.

I had an ‘86 F350 with the 6.9 IDI. Loved it. Look and see if Tucker’s truck has the Stanadyne water separator on the firewall. Looks like a steel can with a spring-loaded plunger on top and a wire going to it for the “Drain Water” warning light. I would recommend removal and replacement. Here’s why. The plunger that seals the bottom of the reservoir where water collects is made of regular old steel. So it rusts. And quits sealing. Which allows air to seep into the fuel system. So you’ll experience long cranking times and hard starting. I chased this problem on my truck for weeks until I finally figured it out. I never could wrap my mind around such an obvious design flaw. I’m guessing that a roomful of engineers somewhere were saying “Hey, you know this thing is gonna rust - right?” And the bean counters said “Stainless steel will cost another $1.20 per unit. Ship it!” So yeah - yank it off of the firewall like you’re starting a lawnmower. That’s my advice to you.

Around the early 80's Choveys went downhill as far as paint a steel thickness went. My Dad drove Engine 7 at Flint Michigan's station 7 that was on the edge of a cliff that overlooked Flint Chovey 2 truck plant in what was called the Hole beside the Flint river. Guys who wirked there began buying Fords and Rams because of the quality going in the tank as a cost cutting agenda by GM. Ford has always built a better truck to work on. I've had both including a 1962 half ton chevy on a 3/4 ton frame with 16 inch tires I bought while I was stationed at Coast Guard Airstation Miami then drove it up the Michigan when my enlistment was up in '80. Had a 283 in it. Tough old truck that came from Cali where it was owned by a forrest service officer. Mostly mint except for the crappy battery box and some front clip issues I completely rebuilt on weekends in the Aviation ground support shop I was in charge of. I built a new nice thick steel battery boxe painted with acid resistent paint and lined with helo fuel blader rubber from the helo sho I got lucky and didn't get assigned to as the shop chief was jackass to work for. Next truck was a '78 Ford. Great truck. Another Cali refugee no salt damage I did a triple undercoat on then got divorced and moved back down to Miami with my youngest daughter. I'd take a 70's / 80's Ford over a Chovey if I had to choose. Way easier to work on.
