The latin dancers were utterly fantastic. They totally blew away everyone else. Actually, all of the couples dancing was really good. You don't see dancing like that today.

at the time dancing the hustle was heralded as a return to partner dancing, I was a child I didn't go to dance clubs but, that style of dancing was everywhere & even still somewhat in vogue by the time I became a teenager but, I really couldn't dance a lick so, unfortunately for me I never did it

Well Tony is the best - in his tiny universe... Here he catches a glimpse outside of that little world and realizes that there are other people with a lot of talent and other styles of dancing to be discovered. The look on his face tells everything.

Yes. Brilliant Analysis. It kind of reminds me of the Kids who Danced on American Bandstand and got some major Slices of Humble Pie when they tried to do it professionally because they had no Formal Dance Training.

I watched this film back in the 70s, it is still one of the best films ever. I could watch it over & over again. Still as fresh today, as it was back then.

The latin couple was just lights out. One of my favorite scenes of all time. Her body and movements were so fluid. Incredible song, lighting, energy and they look like they are really having fun. Just incredible.

It is one of my favorite scenes as well. I love the song, especially since it is all instrumental. The Latin dancers killed it on the floor. I can watch these scene over and over again and it amazes me each time I watch it. Their routine goes excately with the song and they move on the dance floor like water. The black couple was amazing as well and they should have received 2nd place while Tony and Stephanie should have maybe received 3rd. To be honest I didn't think their routine was that good.

I've been watching this dance contest sequence forever! And I can watch it over and over and still get goosebumps every time. The latin couple is muy caliente! That woman is absolutely fantastic--I bow to you to this day. And the man is waay sexy with that vest and handlebar mustache! Tony was right to give them the prize!

The whole point of the scene was to show the blatant racial bias in the dance contest. Clearly the Latin couple outperformed Tony and Steph, soundly, and some can argue the black couple may have outperformed them as well.

A la verdad que los dos primeros bailarines estuvieron brutales, pero la pareja de puertorriquenos se pasaron, la musica, el baile estuvo pasao, se merecian el primer premio y fue lo que me gusto en la escena en que John Travolta, reconocio que el no se lo merecia, y rapido fue a entregarselo. No todo el mundo tiene el atrevimiento de reconocer cuando otros lo hacen mejor que uno. Esta brutal esa escena.

Doesn't really matter too much; there were PLENTY of excellent dancers on the floors back then that would look great to the untrained eye (even ME!). It was all a matter of practice, of doing it frequently, then once the steps became second nature, it was easy to put some flair into it. The hard part was coordinating the movements with the other dancer when you weren't touching. I could lead a good girl dancer into anything, but once apart, she had to know what to do on her own. Practice, practice, practice. And it's fun!

This couple MADE the movie. They set the bar high for portraying the very best of disco music, K-Jee's MFSB, and fluid moves that illustrate this dance genre. I was new to clubbing back then,( a senior in High School), when all of this came about. I had the BEST and the worst of times. I only remember the best when I see this .

Why would tony & stephanie do a slow dance in a dance competition. Maybe they would have won if they were as uptempo as the black couple or Latin couple. I just love his integrity & realizing this tiny world he lives in is just an illusion. He knew the Latinos were better & he only won bc it was rigged by his freinds. Most people would not care. He shows such character giving the couple the trophy.

It totally was and Tony realized it.... their dance seemed to mean a lot to them emotionally, but not to a dance contest. He knew the other couple should have won but didn't just because they were Puerto Rican, so the whole biased culture of his neighborhood/scene disgusted him

Wow I hear this song I can still feel it. Just like in the days clubbing at Third World, copa cabanna, they would not let us dance in the contest they have to make me one of the judge's. Of course I would have to give the high score to my friend on the dance floor, but we would bring back the new steps from hollywood to the neighborhood so everyone can learn Hot! Hot! Hot! babe I remember Circus Circus in Hollywood on Friday you would see some celebrity's come in to party. Please keep it going

The latin couple had the best dancing and should have won 1st price. Tony and Stephanie should have had a different dance routine and song for the competition. A faster pace song would've been better. He showed his very best dance moves when he did his solo dancing to the song "You should be dancing" by the BeeGees.

When I first brought the R rated version on VHS, the Puerto Rican couple were dancing to a different song instead of MFSB's K-Gee. Scenes before that, a dance instructor was teaching old folks how to dance to that same song too.

Did you know that the Black Couple were actually in the First Broadway Production of A Chorus Line. I'm not surprised that they got ample applause. Think about it, if you are African American and you're the minority and no matter how good you are they aren't going to vote for you because they feel that they would betray their own. It's like seeing a White Act win First Prize At The Apollo Theatre's Talent Night.

I just realized somehting else. In a "Changing" Neighborhood Cesar & Maria were very brave to Compete in The Dance Competition. Although they knew they wouldn't "Win" they wanted to show they were just as good.
