Not Accurate, the dancers are actually nice guys if you dont go walking like you're Elon musk, and when you do they are usually super passive aggressive but you deserve it. Also i swear Hawaiian is your secondary language you need to use it more.
@MA-gn5nl
@MA-gn5nl 3 жыл бұрын
@@joshlamb3058 I wasn’t talking about the dancers, I was talking about the context; what Fred Armisen and Dwayne Johnson were saying about living here. The dancers are nice people, that’s true. Hawaiian is Hawaii’s native, official, and first language but after the US illegally overthrew the Hawaiian government/monarchy, the US government banned Hawaiian in schools. Obviously it’s no longer the case now, but it’s a no brainer that the Hawaiian language almost went extinct. So we can’t just “use it more” even if we wanted to. We finally started to see revitalization for the Hawaiian language and culture thanks to the efforts led by Hawaiian language educators, advocates, and communities...I am learning Hawaiian but it’s a long road ahead until more people will learn the language and commonly use it, especially in different domains...

Yes, tourism is a big source of money in Hawaii. But the natives there aren't impoverished charity cases being rescued by the industry, and they don't need money because they've done something wrong. It's tourism that is driving up prices to a ridiculous level. In some places in Hawaii, the cost of rent is among the highest in the country. Minimum or low wage jobs in the tourism industry won't allow natives to be competitive in a housing market saturated by wealthy folks who want a cool vacation spot. Of course they're bitter about tourists, because they contribute to the problem while remaining blissfully ignorant.

The Rock actually makes a point that the Aloha Spirit of Hawaii which is part of the culture among the natives, regardless of nationality, is to treat people with kindness and open welcomes. However many tourists see that this niceness and tolerance for rudeness as a sign of weakness to exploit and treat natives like shat. So yes this skit does express frustration of many who work to appease tourists. Tourism isn't the sole business which keeps us alive...we do have businesses and educated people in Hawaii.

Coming from a Hawaiian, there are a lot of negative sentiments towards tourist about the forcefully annexed Hawaii. Especially when its rubbed in our faces. I, myself learned to accept the fact that it is not right to blame the child of the fathers. If they tend to rub it however, it's impossible not to get just a little ticked off.

Nicolas Roy same. I imagine visiting would be sad and not a happy vacation at all. Kinda like when I visited south dakota. I could feel the gloom of unrested ancestors of the Lakota. I'm sure Hawai'i is beautiful for people unaware of its history and the U.S. treatment of the Kanaka Maoli.

Noah Panoncillo why do u guys get mad a tourists? You do know most of them are Americans like you right? Also they just want to look around the state it's pretty. In most of the states the only really pretty things are the things we build ourselves but Hawaii has some natural beauty too so why would u guys be so hostile?

@@LucasFernandez-fk8se only american tourists, the majority of tourists are from asia and oceania. american tourists are the snobbiest, entitled when they explore the island, culturally insensitive and social media obsessed while in paradise. venturing into waikiki, the disney resort, the north shore, a local would be ashamed. the american transplants are flocking to hawaii to settle down while locals are leaving in droves. neocolonialism exists, the americans coming over drive up the price, take jobs from locals, buy investment property to make mega homes and air b&bs thus driving the price of land, overpopulation is an issue on oahu. american tourists like it so much, they wont leave. they might come back as stationed military at some point if they are in the armed forces, contributing to the belief by locals weve been continuously under occupation as well.
