Lea Salonga has been performing since age 7 (she is now 51 - looks and sounds great!). As others have mentioned, she is the singing voice for 2 Disney princesses: Jasmine ("A Whole New World") and Mulan ("Reflection"). Lea first got international attention when she was cast as the lead role in MISS SAIGON. She premiered in the original London production at age 18 (in 1989) and then premiered in the original Broadway production at age 20 (in 1991), and won every major theater award including the Olivier and Tony Awards. She was the first Asian/non-Caucasian woman to play Eponine in the Broadway production of LES MISERABLES in 1993. (This was a big deal because non-traditional casting did not happen a lot back then.) This song is a Filipino Christmas song - many would consider it *THE* Filipino Christmas song. When the Christmas season begins, people start playing this song and keep playing it through the season. (Same way you start hearing Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You" at the start of the Christmas season and it doesn't stop.)

Lea Salonga is probably the best known Filipina singer worldwide. Her list of awards received as a singer and actress spans nearly 40 years (and the list I saw may not be complete). She has won a Tony, Larry, nominated for Grammys (twice), and many, many others. She was the star of the original Broadway production of Miss Saigon, and starred in the 25th Anniversary show of Les Misérables in Concert. She has been the singing voice for two (!) Disney princesses, Jasmine and Mulan. So it's quite possible that her voice may be quite familiar to you, without you realizing who she actually is. Fun fact: This song was written in the early '90s, and the songwriter (Jose Mari Chan) specifically wanted Lea Salonga to sing it. She was agreeable, but her record label wasn't, so the song was originally released with Jose and his daughter Liza singing. Flash forward 30 years, and this is the first time Lea Salonga has been able to officially release the song with PTX.

This video was shot around the end of May. Lea travelled to LA to record the song with PTX, then shot the video. Kirstie mentioned in a TikTok? interview that she was around 36 weeks pregnant at the time ... and Lea was wonderful to work with. I suspect the videos were completed over a span of months as the different artists were available, and held for release in December. What a thoughtful gift for the fans!

Lea is our national pride and treasure 🇵🇭. Christmas in our Hearts has been around for 30 years or so it has become a staple during Filipino karaoke Christmas parties. The OG has a simple arrangement making it easy to sing or sing-along. I remember we passed around the mike so that each one sing a line or two. I think the song seems "tired" by now but THIS arrangement in my opinion gives the song a fresh (and more dramatic) feel and a new life, yup , Saucy, those string-like sounds, the bass and percussion not to mention the harmonies - they made this song brand-new. The song has already been popular in our country, the Philippines, for three decades; it has just not made it to the United States for the simple reason that the singer/songwriter is a Filipino, not an American. It is not surprising that Americans do not know other countries' music and artists. It demonstrates that even Lea Salonga, a well-known international artist, Disney legend, and Broadway queen, is unknown to you because she is not an American. 😂
