Күн бұрын

The Saudis aren’t playing around. Cenk Uygur, the host of The Young Turks, breaks down the kidnapping of the Lebanese prime minister. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
Read more here: www.nytimes.co...
“BEIRUT, Lebanon - Lebanon’s prime minister, Saad Hariri, was summoned at 8:30 a.m. to the Saudi royal offices - unseemly early, by the kingdom’s standards - on the second day of a visit that was already far from what he had expected.
Mr. Hariri, long an ally of the Saudis, dressed that morning in jeans and a T-shirt, thinking he was going camping in the desert with the crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman.
But instead he was stripped of his cellphones, separated from all but one of his usual cluster of bodyguards, and shoved and insulted by Saudi security officers. Then came the ultimate indignity: He was handed a prewritten resignation speech and forced to read it on Saudi television.
This, it seemed, was the real reason he had been beckoned to the Saudi capital, Riyadh, a day earlier: to resign under pressure and publicly blame Iran, as if he were an employee and not a sovereign leader. Before going on TV, he was not even allowed to go to the house he owns there; he had to ask guards to bring him a suit.
As bizarre as the episode was, it was just one chapter in the story of Prince Mohammed, the ambitious young heir apparent determined to shake up the power structure not just of his own country but of the entire region. At home, he has jailed hundreds of fellow princes and businessmen in what he casts as an anticorruption drive. Abroad, he has waged war in Yemen and confronted Qatar.”

The Trump's made an official trip to Saudi Arabia last year to solidify $1B arms deal and Ivanka received a donation of $100M for her foundation that helps women and children, where ever that is. Hannity was always complaining about HRC accepting money from a country like Saudi Arabia while she says she cares about women & children. Once Ivamka got $100M, Hannity dropped the story. Fair and balanced?

That's because the "leaders" in the region are dictators and can't be brought down easily. -Assad is still butchering people, although he has killed so many that the war is slowly winding down -MBS bombing the living sh*t out of Yemen -Erdogan/Turkish military slashing out against the kurds (and now over international borders into Syria) -Israel oppressing the Pals and launching non-stop airstrikes over internationally recognized borders with the scapegoat of _"well Iran is there. or was. or is going to be at some future date. or whatevs, look, _*_squirrel_*_ !!"_ -Iran and Saudi still sponsoring equal and opposite sectarian militias all over the region, in literally almost every country -Al-Sisi in Egypt jailing even the members of the parliamentary opposition and western non-political activists in democracies clowns like that would simply not be able to hold their post for long, in the Middle East everything just carries on and on no matter how horrible, and horribly stupid, it is, because the ones in charge of all that remain.

Well, we also have the lowest paying jobs in 40 years. Working harder for less money does not seem to be much to brag about when claiming success. You'll be wondering why your fresh produce costs so much when that wall is operational. Many construction projects use illegal immigrant labor to keep costs low. Will you complain when your house costs more? Frankly I think the fact that the entire world is concerned about Trumps mental status is not something to dismiss with a big rah rah rah for our side. You have a good day, and remember if you have a pile of sand to stick your head in you need to keep adding sand because eventually it will disappear into the ground and you won't be able to avoid the stark nature of reality anymore.

Not to mention the US does terrorism itself. Or are we calling the drone murders anything different?

Regarding imprisonment, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Emirates are absolute monarchies. As in, not far removed from the show "Game of Thrones". It's a time-honored tradition for heirs taking the throne to "neutralize" potential future rivals to their rule, so nothing strange here. Regarding the Lebanese prime minister, the Saudis were disposing of a puppet that didn't jump high enough when told. No one was maimed or killed in the process. Compare that to the US disposing of their puppet Saddam Hussein by going to war on the other side of the world. TWICE. Then botching the cleanup, resulting in hundreds of thousands of people dead and a nation in shambles.

That sounds like something American operatives would do - I suppose they learn quickly!
