It was hailed by Saudi Arabia as the future of urban living. A city, in the middle of the desert, would stretch for more than a 100 kilometers, and it wouldn't need cars or roads for the expected nine million residents. Dubbed the Line, it was part of a bigger development plan, worth five-hundred billion dollars. While construction has started, the project is facing some setbacks. And the Saudis are hoping to woo some new investors, including from China.

The Line is a losing proposition from the start. Who wants to live there? I don't! It may work if the project included building a bridge to Sharm El-Sheikh, a major resort in Egypt, where the Saudis could chill out. Currently,, they flock to Bahrain but that is only convenient for those in the Northeast. Those in the Northwest need somewhere to chill out and Sharm El-Sheikh is the go-to place.

God has blessed Saudi Arabia in many ways. Mecca will always be influential. I read an article about Saudi Arabia investing heavily in Artificial Intelligence. The blessing the khaleej has Is the Arab Muslim way of life. It is a family friendly tourist destination. Of course abu Dhabi and Dubai is not Mecca. Mecca is unmatched and unique because it's sacred.
