Savage 110 Hog Hunter. Worth the Extra $ Over the Model 11?

Күн бұрынSo with he addition of the newer model 110 HH came a couple changes to the rifle. However it also came with a higher price tag. Is the new model worth the extra cost over the previous model 11 version of this rifle?

I have the 11 Hog Hunter, it was what my son took his first whitetail with. Excellent rifle, I just put a nice Leupold 1.5-4x20mm VX Freedom and it’s been fantastic. It’s taken several hogs and a number of whitetail as well.

I love my model 11 in .308, it would not shoot Hornady whitetail so I had to reload for it. I shoot a Nosler 165 grain BT. Blc2. I wish mine had a mag not the blind mag. I’m thinking of getting a tacticool stock for it. Great Video!

Have the first one of those with the dark green stock 180gr. Rem an 180 gr. Winchester silver tips shot very well

I have the m11 hog hunter in 308. Mine likes 168eldm over 44.7g varget. shoots 1/2 moa and single digit SD averages 2730fps.

Yeah, I like that rifle. I'd like to see more on it. Maybe the stock, seeing how they bed it. But I need to check out your videos. Maybe you already did. I like how you get to the point and don't drag videos out.... thanks! I have a model 11 long range hunter in 308. I like it. Shoots 3/4" @ 100 yrds. I'm making it into a compact at the moment. Shortened barrel to 20". Cut about 2" off forend and shortend stock length pull to 12 1/2", which ended up being too short but still works and is still acceptable. Especially with a pack on or heavy winter clothes.

Wanted one of the original Hog series Savages in 308. They just never offered a south paw version.

I really like the video, and points made well done. On a personal level i have one of these in one of the most underrated and known about caliber, the 338 Federal. Let me tell you as far as deer go (White Tails), the round is devastating. Wish it was more popular, for ammo sake. The size fit and weight of the rifle for typical North East Deer hunting. it is fitted with a 2x76x32 Vortex scope, nice for deer drives and snap shooting. Hard to beat in the barrel length. 2 thumbs up in my opinion.

I too have the 338 federal version I love it, just ordered a ER Shaw barrel in 375 Raptor, I figure if I love the 338 I’ll love the 375 even more I wonder if. Can neck up to 416 ??

Does your bolt rub on the very rear of the receiver on the left hand side ? I just bought one about 2 months ago and the iron sights fell off as well . Great shooting gun other than those 2 things . Please let me know

Can an accustock with the aluminum bedding block be installed or will it not fit?

Perhaps it is the suppressor affecting the accuracy- I noticed with the original model 11 that you shot it un-suppressed. I did some quick research and it seems that a suppressor *can* in fact affect accuracy, and both directions apparently. Depending on the barrel harmonics, it may shoot worse or better with a suppressor attatched, while some guns may not be affected at all. So it all depends on the gun and the load, and probably even the choice of suppressor (weight, length, style, etc).

Anything is sure possible. From my testing with this YHM it has been pretty well across the board as far as tightening up groups but as we know all rifles are different. One thing I keep in mind with this rifle is that it's not touted as a "precision" rifle. It's a hunting gun which the accuracy it shown is more than sufficient, but hey we want all we can get! lol.

@@TheHide Yeah but even before I clicked on this video, I was already armed with the knowledge that the original 11 series hog hunter in .308 was a moa/sub moa rifle, and your video on that one further confirmed this. So seeing this newer 110 version shoot twice that or more has me wondering if it's the suppressor or the rifle.

@@BuckeyeBallistics Funny thing is i shot the old with the can also and it still held atleast moa. So i guess we will never know. Could very have been the can.

@@TheHide That would have been my next question... So if they both have the same barrel, then I guess that's not it. But if they did have the same barrel, then it should shoot the same lol. I'm not sure if the 110 barrel is identical to the 11 barrel or not though. Or maybe the stock being different affects the harmonics as well: I know that proper stocks are big for precision shooting. But as you said, I guess we'll never know since you don't have the rifle anymore...

Reloads may be the answer did you check the barrel with a borescope maybe pretty rough in there

My model 11 Hog Hunter shoots .5 to 1.5 MOA. Like yours, I was able to shoot some consistently good groups with the right ammo. It likes the 168 grain Sierra Match Kings and 150 and 168 Barnes TSX. No way would I spend 200 dollars more for the updated version.

You need to learn how to let it cool off between groups and shots. Nothing is going to group well when it's that hot

Did you check to see if the can or Muzzle break is loose 308 normally shoot better groups than that

That's not a true Accufit stock, because it only has length of pull adjustment. Still just a plain polymer stock with the Savage Axis plastic magazine with magazine mounted plastic release. The true Accufit Accustock has both length of pull and comb height adjustability. The Accustock magazine has a metal floor plate and rifle mounted metal magazine release. The bottom bolt release is not a big deal, several aftermarket stocks and chassis systems support it.

Where is the bolt release for this rifle is it on the side of the rifle action or in the trigger guard?

Wouldn't your barrel be getting hot or are you stopping between groups ?

Yeah probably so, but IMO not enough to make the difference shown. Plus a rifle like this technically isn't a bench gun but should shoot bit better than what was shown.. Thanks for watching!

It's a medium contour barrel and it's November so I bet the barrel didn't get that hot.

Not getting true groups with running that many loads at one time. You can fry a egg on that barrel

I totally agree, not very impressive. Maybe some handloads with a Magic Bullet might do the trick period keep throwing the freedom seeds down range thank you
