Get the Vortex scope caps. You can even have a custom D.O.P.E card made. And it inserts into the front cap. I use them along with a Alpine Innovations Scope Slicker cover during really rainy or snowy days. Protects the entire scope. So no foggy lenses and keeps my turrets from getting wet.

Just a small correction - The 110 Ultralite does not have an AccuStock. AccuStock is Savage's term for a stock that has an aluminum rail system embedded in the forend. The customization of the comb height and length of pull is called AccuFit :) Besides that, great video!

Great video..I’m thinking of getting the same rifle, but was just wondering if you encounter any feeding issues with this rifle in this caliber.65 prc..???
@SamongOutdoors
@SamongOutdoors 2 ай бұрын
I actually have feeding issues with this rifle. However, I think the feeding issue has to do more with Savage's action design rather than the 6.5 PRC cartridge itself. My dad and brother own multiple Browning X-Bolt's in 6.5 PRC and the feeding is flawless. The biggest complaint across the board about Savage, as a whole, is their clunky action. It's not the smoothest nor the most reliable, unfortunately. If you go back and watch my 2022 Mule Deer & Elk Hunt, those are my in the field experiences. After shooting my mule deer, I racked my bolt like any other rifle. Walked up to my dead deer to eject my "loaded" round just to find out that I never actually even chambered a second round. With that experience, I shot my Washington Bull Elk 2 weeks later and after the first shot, I consciously re-rack my second round to make sure it actually went in which it did. My experience is you have to fully hit the back wall when pulling the bolt back for it to catch the next round.

@SamongOutdoors
@SamongOutdoors 6 ай бұрын
Yes, this rifle comes in left handed models. You can see all about it on Savage's website: savagearms.com/content?p=firearms&a=product_summary&s=57713 The 6.5 PRC is just a 6.5 Creedmoor with a bit more juice. The PRC shoots about 200fps faster than a 6.5 Creedmoor with the same bullet.

Sy, Love your videos but I have one quick question: I have that same Wheeler kit, but I noticed that you are using Red locktite. I had been told by a few different sources to use the Blue instead. They all said that if I use the Red I will have to apply heat to break the threads free. Are you able to remove your scope mounts/bases without applying heat with the red locktite? P.S. I usually use the Tally one piece mounts.
@SamongOutdoors
@SamongOutdoors Жыл бұрын
The loctite I have is the one that comes with the Wheeler kit. It's not red loctite as red loctite is designed for "permanent" use. I can unscrew the screws with the wheeler kit loctite with ease. Blue loctite is great too.

Thanx for the info,I always thought Talley's called for 18-20 inch pounds for rings.
@SamongOutdoors
@SamongOutdoors Жыл бұрын
No problem! When using Loctite, it's best that you max out the screws about 4 to 5-inch pounds less per screw. When the Loctite dries up, it tightens the screws up. Meaning, a 13-14 inch pound torque on screws with Loctite will be about equal to an 18-19 inch pound torque without Loctite.

A liquid loctite lubricates your threads making it easier to screw in thus applying more torque. This can be magnified with scope rings that use 6 or 8 screws per ring as well.

Thanks for this video. I am looking at the same rifle you chose. I am in a state of indecision with 2 calibers: 280 AI and the 6.5prc. Did you consider the 280AI? If you did, why did you decide against it?
@SamongOutdoors
@SamongOutdoors Жыл бұрын
When I first looked into this rifle, I wanted either the 300wsm or the 280AI. However, they only had the 6.5PRC and 28 Nosler in stock so I went with the 6.5 PRC instead. I want to shoot them all one day so it's not a big deal for me at the moment. It just worked out in my favor because the 7 PRC came out which I would choose over the 280AI. Currently having a 7 PRC being built. That being said, I still think the 280AI is a fantastic cartridge.

I hunt mostly in Western WA. where I live. I'm trying a bedding job for the first time on a Savage stock. Have you thought about bedding this rifle? The Savage stocks have a good a lot of flex. I use Wiser Precision Quick-stix with the Quick-Clip to take my bear this year. I really like that setup but it would be better if my stocks are beefy and don't flex under weight but I don't want to add a lot of weight. Is the forehand flexing on you with this rifle?

@SamongOutdoors
@SamongOutdoors 5 ай бұрын
Mule Deer: I hit high shoulder and spine at 55 yards. Dropped him in his tracks and the bullet fully passed through after expanding. Damage was good and lost a little bit of the backstrap. Never recovered the bullet. 6x6 Bull: I shot him quartering away and slightly uphill at about 250 yards. Bullet entered about 6 inches behind the crease of the shoulder. The bullet did good damage on the left lung, and barely knicked the top of the right lung. The bullet hit the underside of his spine and could not recovered the bullet. He made it 30 yards before going to the ground. Roosevelt Bull: I shot him broadside (slightest bit of quartering to me) at 250 yards. First shot was high shoulder spine and fully passed through him. He dropped immediately, but he eventually got back up with his two front hooves. I sent a second one and hit right behind the shoulder. The bullet was a perfect mushroom and was recovered underneath the skin of the other side of the hide.

I have the same issue with my 50mm objective scope and the Butler Creek cap. I’ve read to either use electrical tape around the scope to fit the slightly larger one or heat up the slightly smaller one before pushing it on. I went the slightly smaller route and the cap never quite worked correctly and constantly opened up on its own. I eventually took it off and embraced the Oregon coastal rain on my lens. I’ll probably end up splurging on the manufacturer specific caps. Question: did you push those scope rings forward before you torqued them down?

STRETCH the 43 OVER THE BELL…. Or LOKTITE THE 44 on. What is the atlas torque recommendation on their bipods, it’s not just snug. And, hand tight on your muzzle break, you meant have a qualified armed install any muzzle break to avoid injury or death.

Ultralite setup but with a 2lb scope? I like the scope but the weight is too much for that rifle

21 oz is not the lightest in the market but for a fully-featured scope with premium glass, I've yet to find anything significantly lighter.

Gaffers tape on the front of the scope should shim it enough and it won't leave tape glue on your scope.

Loved the content, and this is my next gun to get, been solid on getting it for a fair while. But abit of constructive thoughts, summarise your information, maybe leave the full name out every time you say something, I had to stop watching due to how often you would say "bubble level" drove me nuts. Other than that, great vid!

YOU NEVER USE LOKTITE ON A SCOPE!!! Why not just loktite the scope to the bottom base and not worry about the top or screws. Next sledgehammer your barrel into place, too. You’re going to have a lot of people screw up and ruin there $1k scopes and rings. Why aren’t you using Vortex Rings? You didn’t loktite the throw lever? WOW!!

Then let my $1k scope be the first scope to be screwed up.
