This thing shoots awesome, but I'm having some intermittent trouble with setting off CCI BR4s in my 22 Creedmoor Savage Impulse Predator.

Understood. Again, best of luck.

I've seen something like this before it turned out The primers were not fully seated in the case. Using a primer pocket uniforming tool and ensuring the primers were properly seated Solved the issue for me. Best of luck.

That's a good point, because if the primers are a bit "proud", the firing pin can lose some energy by first pushing them into the case further. I thought that was the deal at first, but I switched primer seaters to one that I can start to deform the primer if I seat it too far, and if that helped at all, I don't know. I've still had some misfires after that.

Doesnt look like its quite hitting center not that it has to do with anything. Ive got 75 rnds down my Tikka 22 creedmoor with cci 450s an no issues with primers. Ive seen where ppl Reccomend taking the bolts apart on savages an getting the grease off an just lubricate lightly. Idk thats wierd. Hopefully its not a bolt problem but ive called em before since they have a so called custom shop an unless its something common they dont seem to be fans of anything modified. Barrel shouldnt have a thing to do with the bolt. I wish theyd push these rifles more so after market would get more involved. I know my alpha brass I was concerned about primer depth cause pockets were so tight didn't feel I had them seated far enough. So after crushing several adjusting I tried an hoped for best. Lol so far so good

My impulse had light primer strike too. It had a 358 win barrel from the previous owner. I checked the headspace today. Bolt closes on the no go. I'm sure your hs is good but no harm to double check.

I've double and triple-checked head space. It's about 2 thousandths over Go gauge.

have you checked primer pocket depth, compared to other manufacturers brass?

Could it be your removal of one of the trigger springs not hitting hard enough on the thicker primers? BTW, you can adjust the trigger down to as low as 1lb 1oz with both springs. Buy yourself a Wheeler Professional Digital LCD Trigger Gauge. Much more accurate.
@ShopTowels5 ай бұрын
The spring I removed only impacts the pull weight of the trigger shoe. The firing pin is launched by a completely different spring inside the bolt. Also, there seems to be a relatively wide variation in these triggers. I was not able to get mine down that far. As for my trigger gauge, it's possible it's not perfectly on, but it measures consistently and even my organic trigger gauge (my finger) can tell the difference when comparing to my other custom (Timney, Geissele, AR Gold, etc) triggers.

Savage Impulse - Disassembly 04:35 is bolt he struggled too. I believe he is in Canada. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fK-TjLCalrancp8.html

Yeah, I've seen that. Like me, all he managed was the bolt head and handle. I want to get the whole thing apart.

Are you using a case gauge? Mybe shoulder is bumped to much
@ShopTowels6 ай бұрын
Yes, I use the Hornady headspace comparator set. Measurements to the datum line on the shoulder are the same on cases that fire and those that don't. Brass is new, and only about .005 shorter than the chamber (headspace). Most factory ammo is much more than that, especially on factory rifles.

uhm you don't recommend savage anymore?

Savage is fine for what they are: relatively cheap but mostly decent factory rifles. Anything at the Savage price point is going to have its quirks.

I have reloaded fifty years ,,and I have never had one misfire or hang fire ,,but I have never had any of these new calibers ,,,here is a list of calibers I’ve reloaded by the thousands,, 22 hornet,,222 rem,,223 rem,,22/250, 220 swift 17 Remington,,243 win,260 rem ,,6.5 Remington mag,,264 win mag ,,270 win, 7mm08 rem,, 308 win ,,3006 Springfield,,338 federal,,338 win mag I don’t think that I need another rifle however if I do buy one I can assure you it will be in a caliber that is on this list.

I don't think the exact chambering is relevant. It's a function of case, primer, headspace, bolt, and firing pin. If one of those is off, you'll have misfires. In this case, evidence has shown that the firing mechanism in my particular rifle is a bit weak. It will reliably fire primers with softer cups when nothing else has changed.

@@ShopTowels I hope they take care of the issue for you ,,I have a lot of savage rifles , none of them ever gave trouble , one time I called the company to order a trigger guard that I had broken in disassembly ,,they sent me two free of charge ,,can’t get any better than that.

Go buy a Tikka. Savage was once a good company. 30 years ago. Nothing but crap now.
@ShopTowels4 ай бұрын
Tikka doesn't make straight pulls or rifles that allow you to do barrel / caliber swaps in a couple minutes. I have nicer, more expensive rifles. This one I bought largely out of curiosity. Turns out I like it.
