Why do they offer “left handed” configurations for the impulse? 😵💫
@davfree97325 күн бұрын
The reason the tread is gone is because the material has worn away. Soldering in new tread means melting more material so that the tread is closer to the foot and has less cushioning. If you have another set of crocs, or even interlocking floormat foam you can instead try the resole option using contact cement. This will add material that will cushion the foot while giving more material to melt in the new tread. Results may vary so look up a good tutorial on what adhesive to use. You want something that won't have residual stickness and high adhesive grip properties to keep the new sole in place without getting goo in the carpet.
@ShopTowelsКүн бұрын
This method isn't designed to get you back to 'good as new'. It's more like 'get you by for a while longer'. To me, Crocs are not exactly unique or expensive enough to bother with re-soling. I think I'd just buy a new pair.

Thanks! My tumbler sat in the corner collecting dust because it leaked so bad. Even using a strap wrench and getting it as tight as I could, it would just hemorrhage water. After trying this, it's usable now. It was amazing how un-true the ends of the drum were.

How have you liked the at one stock on the impulse? Im trying to decide between an impulse predator or a 110 trail hunter with a krg bravo stock. I really like the straight pull. Im not sure if id be willing to get into it without any stock options other than the boyds at-one.
@ShopTowelsКүн бұрын
I really like it so far. The rifle shoots really well, although that is likely a result of the custom barrel. Obviously a KRG or MDT is a better stock, but sadly they don't make one for the Impulse.

Savage is fine for what they are: relatively cheap but mostly decent factory rifles. Anything at the Savage price point is going to have its quirks.

I’m not sure if you talked about the huge advantage of avoiding stainless pins, no risk of damage to the firearm from accidentally leaving a pin in a cartridge, firing it, and as a result trashing the barrel. It only has to happen once in thousands of reloaded rounds. I’m using ultrasonic. I love the look of stainless tumbled brass, but I just don’t fancy separating the media
@ShopTowelsАй бұрын
Yes, that's one of the main reasons I don't use the pins. I don't need to launch one down my expensive custom barrels.

Since the rifle is a Savage; Savage rifles need to be bore scoped. Chattering throughout the bore of my Savage 110 Tactical, the crap should not have left the factory.
@ShopTowelsАй бұрын
Rough bores are to be expected on cheap factory rifles. However, fairly often they still shoot really well.

I use powdered citric acid instead of Lemi-Shine, a 45acp case full in a load and it's only 5 bucks on Amazon and literally enough there to do hundreds of fills. As for the leaks, I had them too. I use a touch of heavy silicone grease on the gasket and I fill with very hot water. When the water cools and contracts it creates a vacuum and it seals the drum tight, I have to pry the seal off with my fingers to open it.

Nice mod's on the stock to make it your own. I feel the boyd's AT stock is a great solution when using the higher mounted box style thermals, where you need more cheek height to achieve proper eye alignment. Great price too.
@ShopTowels4 ай бұрын
Agreed. One thing I forgot to mention is I put a Hoptic saddle blanket on the cheek piece. They don't make one specific to that stock, but I had an extra Luth-AR one laying around that I was able to cut down and fit. That gives you a hair more height, and I really enjoy the comfort of them.

Tikka doesn't make straight pulls or rifles that allow you to do barrel / caliber swaps in a couple minutes. I have nicer, more expensive rifles. This one I bought largely out of curiosity. Turns out I like it.

I made a wrench from a piece of 3/4 inch plywood with a very short handle that is about as long as my hand is wide. I have not had any leaks since using the wrench. I use the wrench to both tighten and loosen the lid. Put the lid on plywood, draw around it with a ball point pen, not a sharpie. Drill holes where the nubs go out from the lid, but be sure the holes are angled correctly. The nubs are not straight up and down on the lid, they are angled. Look down from above the lid to see what the angle is. After drilling the holes where nubs are, cut out with a jig saw (or saber saw, what ever it is called), cut the wrench out with about a 1 inch larger hole than what the inside diameter hole is. Or do what was done in the video, which may be easier than making a wrench.

@ShopTowels4 ай бұрын
The barrel is actually in-spec for a Savage model 10 action, which is what it was chambered for. It just happens that the Impulse needs slightly longer tenon threads. I didn't want to deal with shipping and waiting and trying to explain the issue, so I just handled it myself.
@seetownwv4 ай бұрын
My 22-250 ejected so hard into defelctor it'd bounce back in chamber after adding suppressor. I ran heavier weight in buffer an had gas turned way way down. Did fine as far as that but sometimes when bolt came forward 2nd shot was fine but when it shut the taper on the 22-250 case let it slide all the way forward in magazine an didn't feed right. Unsuppressed ran like a dream. Might even look into adjustable gas bolt carrier.
@ShopTowels4 ай бұрын
The 22-250 is a great round, but IMO, has too much case taper to be reliable in a mag-fed semi-auto. If your buffer is as heavy it can be, and you gas block is turned down properly, I can only suggest a different buffer spring or magazine. I really like Tubbs flatwire springs.
@seetownwv4 ай бұрын
@ShopTowels yeah the case taper in an AR is just finicky. It functioned flawlessly till suppressed. Buffer tube spring was going to be next step but guy that orginally built the gun wanted to buy it back so now I'm using a 22 Creedmoor now in Tikka no looking back lol that thing is a screamer

@ShopTowels4 ай бұрын
I really like the platform, especially the Predator model, which uses AICS mags. My particular factory barrel was so-so, but the ability to easily replace with a custom barrel is great. My Black Hole Weaponry 22 Creed barrel was not terribly expensive, and shoots lights out. I think if Savage would recognize the switch-barrel capability of the platform and offer a barrel extension, recoil lug, and barrel nut kit for purchase, they could really move it forward. You could have a 22-250 or 22 Creed for varmints and then pop on a 6.5 Creed or 308 for big game in a matter of minutes. All in all, yes I would buy another one.

My left handed model 12 purchased in 2009 doesn't do that. You must depress the accutrigger first. Yours must be defective. My model 16 and impulse are the same as the model 12. Mine are set to 1lb 15oz from factory. My triggers do not lock without safety. Send it back to savage!

Could it be your removal of one of the trigger springs not hitting hard enough on the thicker primers? BTW, you can adjust the trigger down to as low as 1lb 1oz with both springs. Buy yourself a Wheeler Professional Digital LCD Trigger Gauge. Much more accurate.
@ShopTowels5 ай бұрын
The spring I removed only impacts the pull weight of the trigger shoe. The firing pin is launched by a completely different spring inside the bolt. Also, there seems to be a relatively wide variation in these triggers. I was not able to get mine down that far. As for my trigger gauge, it's possible it's not perfectly on, but it measures consistently and even my organic trigger gauge (my finger) can tell the difference when comparing to my other custom (Timney, Geissele, AR Gold, etc) triggers.

I've been using the FA wet tumbling system for a long time and I also do not use the pins. One thing I did change was the cleaning cycle. A guy on YT rinses his brass in plain hot water first and dumps that water. Then he fills the tumbler with the usual Dawn, Lemi and hot water. The brass now tumbles with clean soapy hot water. There's a difference.

@ShopTowels6 ай бұрын
Yes, I use the Hornady headspace comparator set. Measurements to the datum line on the shoulder are the same on cases that fire and those that don't. Brass is new, and only about .005 shorter than the chamber (headspace). Most factory ammo is much more than that, especially on factory rifles.

@ShopTowels6 ай бұрын
I don't think the exact chambering is relevant. It's a function of case, primer, headspace, bolt, and firing pin. If one of those is off, you'll have misfires. In this case, evidence has shown that the firing mechanism in my particular rifle is a bit weak. It will reliably fire primers with softer cups when nothing else has changed.
