the Savage mark 2 is an great gun an for the price it’s an excellent .22. Super accurate and fully upgraded already. The only issue is they have a weak ejector setup. The mark 2 doesn’t have a large aftermarket base or any way to upgrade so you need to keep it clean. .22 ammo is extremely dirty and it doesn’t take long for failures to begin. I use my mark 2 in .NRL22 match last week and began to see more frequent failures to eject and double feeds. The temps being below zero didn’t help neither! I tried different lubes but nothing would help. If you are having issues similar to mine, try a thorough cleaning of your bolt and ejectors. Thanks for watching

For the love of all that is good and holy in this world, please learn the difference between an ejector and an extractor. But a great video that showed me exactly what I needed to know, once I decided to watch it anyway because I wasn't looking for ejection problems, just extraction.

@@katana258 the extractor is the pins he removed. If I am correct the ejector is inside the receiver itself. It is a stationary pin that hits the rear of the spent casing on the lower left side and causes it to pop out of the extractors

10-4 tx extractor grabs the brass and pulls it out of the chamber ... ejector kicks out so what is he talking about . dual ejectors nothing would come out cancel each other

He removed 1 extractor, and 1 ejector. Looking at the bolt from the flat side, bolt face up. The extractor is on the left, and has a sharp claw to grab the case rim. The ejector is on the right and is just a slope to kick the spent casing out. - Joe

Mine had ejection issues from the very start, less than 10 rounds in. To fix mine I took a 7/64 drill bit and milled down the area the extractor rod contacts on the barrel immediately by the rim of the case. (The slopped slot). This allowed the extractor to latch deeper onto the rim, and a few hundred rounds later there have been no more failures to eject. Also, I have found that it’s easier to place the spring retainer in position and slide the extractor rod under the band from the chamber end of the bolt. I hope that helps someone with the same headache I had.

I cannot vision what you are saying, any vids on what you did?..my brand new savage .22 has about a 30-40% ejection failure rate/only 100rounds though it..it;s already getting real old digging out spent shells from the barrel.

Many of us have had this issue at our club. The easiest fix to date is to spray ONE SHOT case lube on your 22 ammo before shooting. None of us have had anymore issues no matter what the temperature is. Slide the 50 tray tray out of the box, flip tray so bullets are facing up, spay with ONE SHOT case lube, flip and re box. No more problems.

I have only had extraction problems with sub sonic ammo. When it occurs I notice that the spent brass is sticky. I believe the problem I have is un-burnt or powder residue blowing back around the spent case. Have had zero issues with standard velocity and above. Tahnx for the video.

This is the first video I watched that shows you how to remove the firing pin. I called Savage first and asked them how to do it and they told me they don't give out gunsmith advice over the phone. Thank You! One more thing--if that knife would have slipped---ouch! and some stitches along with a tetanus shot.

Thanks for this video. I found that if you put the band on first, then slide the extractor "leafs" in from the front, they snap right in.

Yes, yes, and yes!! I put the left ejector and firing pin in, and then put the band on. Slide the right ejector in after that and it snaps in beautifully! I found that out after spending almost 20 minutes (and plenty of cursing my gun for not cooperating) trying to finagle the stupid band over all the components at the same time (and that being my 4th time cleaning the gun).

THIS. This needs to be pinned to the top. Put the band on then slide the extractors in. Theyll force the band out and snap in place. No prying necessary.

Thanks for the video kind friend! To make the band assembly go eaiser- 1- don't shoot it across the garage with compressed air like I did. 2- just install the left extractor and firing pin, put the band in place and slide the black extractor in from the right. Double check the band slots with a fine pick to ensure engagement.

Great information on this known problem area. I did have my concerns about that knife though 😯 LOL!! I would like to clarify a minor detail however. Those parts are actually extractors. The ejector is the part the cases are pulled into by the extractors, causing them to be flung out the ejection port. Thanks for the video 👍

I have a mark2 and the issue started on the 8th shot and kept on. Theres no way the brand new gun failed because it was dirty. I guess the bolt scratches too hard on the first bullet of the clip and that lead makes it fail. Frustraiting to find it fails on the first day

Yesterday was Day #1 of me firing my brand new Savage MKII. Took 49 shots, and approximately 12 of them failed to extract. As a first time firearms owner, the idea of disassembling the bolt mechanism does NOT fall within my comfort zone.
2 жыл бұрын
@@ecpoirier Never came back to this but you'll have to do that. It is quite simple to remove both pins from the bolt and there you't find that the gutter where they live have a "way too sharp" border (kinda like a burr) that makes the pins to experience some friction. I solved the issue forever by pulling the pins back and forth with a bit of a force against the edges of the gutter until they felt looser. I had NO issues after that and it only takes to remove the metal bow that keeps the pins in place once and then reasamble. Give it a try!

Joe, just tried to follow you instructions on putting the bolt back together. Was having a hard time with the right side extractor. I had the clip already snapped in place without the extractor. Wanted to see if I could slide it under the clip and it did and snapped into place.

Thanks for a Great video! Myrifle is in the same stock, same paint scheme & shoots golf balls at 300 yards. After more than 10 cases I had to do this today & it was a 10 minute job because of you & runs great. I have aset of old dental plyers that snapped the ring back on. Thank you for making this as I was afraid it was worn out. I love this gun & now she's ready for 10 more cases,

Another area that can effect the way the shell loads and ejects is the face of the barrel/chamber. Mine was so full of powder and metal that I couldn't get it to fire.

I looked at every single scenario to mitigate this problem with my mark II fvsr…. Here’s the fix. Any ammo coated in waxy residue will not reliably eject. Take 20 rounds of CCI and fire them, counting the number that don’t eject. Now take 20 rounds of CCI and wipe the wax off with clean rag. Zero issues. Don’t believe me. Try it.

I had the same problem with my BTVLSS. Sent it back to Savage 3 times and they could not fix the problem. Then I stumbled across your post. Problem solved , just shoot copper coated bullets. Unfortunately my rifle loved CCI Standard Velocity. I can clean the rifle till it shines like a new penny and I might get 40+or- shots before the extraction problems start. However if I fire a magazine of copper plated bullets down the bbl. the problem is fixed for another 35 0r 40 shots, ish. Not a good plan. But as I tinkered with this problem I discovered that 36gr Remington Golden Bullets shoot as well as the CCIs. Did not see that coming. Your post saved me a lot of work . I just wish I had read it earlier. It would have saved me some shipping charges.

The extractor is stamped metal. It might not move freely in its slot. I lightly rubbed it flat on a 1000 grit sharpening stone until it moved freely in its slot. I havn't had a failure to eject since.

It's nice to see instruction for disassembly, however, the amount of oil should be kept to an extremely tiny amount. If you oil the bold as you did, it's no wonder you're having malfunctions. Oil acts like a magnet for debris, which leads to clocking and resistance in movement. To oil the parts of the bolt, the best advice is to wipe oil onto the parts with a lightly oiled cloth, then use a clean cloth and wipe off the excess oil. The remaining oil will be more than adequate for lubrication and it won't attract debris leading to premature wear.

Thanks for the video . My rifle hadn't been ejecting the spent cartridges , they remained in the barrel . Took out the extractors and one had crisp sharp notch . The other was rounded . Will get a small file and using the good notch for a pattern will file in a real notch. Really poor workmanship on the part of the rifle maker . I'm surprised it ever ejected at all. Seems to be a common problem with the Mark 2. Thanks again.
