Cadillac CTS-V | Nutty Speed and Obese Proportions

We review the 2013 Cadillac CTS-V, one of the last affordable super sedans with a rare manual transmission. While marketed as a track friendly car like the Camaro ZL1, not everyone can use this power on the street. In a world of pony/muscle cars like the 700HP Dodge Hellcats and Ford Shelby GT500s is an older Cadillac even worth the money? We discuss the good and bad of our viewer car.
This Cadillac was designed to compete with the BMW M5, C63.
Index:

01:06 - 3:06 Interior Impressions
3:06 - 5:06 Mechanical - Front Suspension and Transmission
5:06 - 6:31 Rear Suspension and Diff
6:31 - 8:03 Engine and Weight Balance
8:03 - 13:31 Driving Impressions

As the owner of a daily driven V-wagon, I'll say I was personally able to get over any shortcomings of the interior very quickly as a result of how fun and unique this car is. But I'm a HP junky and a huge wagon and sleeper fan, so I lusted after this car from the day they first teased us with the possibility of a 5 door. I could probably drive it sitting on a 5 gallon bucket with a stripped interior and still love it dearly. :) I put 25K miles on her last year and loved every minute of it. I thought you guys were a little harsh on the quality of the interior but I understand that a bare-bones Honda Accord these days comes with more for less. But for a wagon with 550 hp (650 hp now) I'm willing to deal with it not being "perfect" in other areas.

But when you're not, its a smooth, great touring car. I've upgraded the "infotainment" to a Tesla style screen and it make all the difference in the interior. Modernizes it. As soon as I watched, I commented on how they love to talk down on American cars, particularly GM interiors. Look at Mark’s demeanor on this video as compared to any of his other reviews. It really makes you wonder what his real beef is with American cars. I honestly don’t think it’s just the quality of the interiors...I think it’s a little deeper than that.

The rear diff would explode on the Gen 1 because like the fuel tank they did not change it from the V6. It wasn't driver error. The torque rating on the diff was like 330ft-lbs or something like that. The V8 engine made 395lb-ft. It happened to me and GM paid for my new rear diff. They also upgraded but never recalled the launch CTS-V's for future models.

I hear ya. As a former CTS-V and Audi owner myself, the Caddie held up WAAAAAAAY better in the long run. I put on over 100K on mine with ZERO issues. My Audis interiors would fall apart, plastics melt into goo, and the stupidest mechanical quirks. Don't get me wrong. There's definitely something special about Audis, BUT to me the V was the better product to own long term. I want another. Bad. But these days I'm a Volvo wagon guy. LMAO.

Thanks for the video. I own a 2011 CTS-V and love it. I almost bought a 2016 CTS-V but changed my mind I could not justify buying a 65K car that has just slightly better performance. I'll stick to my good old fun V2. Cold air intake with Corsa exhaust sounds amazing!

Nvm the caddy. Mark, I have been watching your content for some time now. Your channel is truly a gem of the automotive channels on KZfaq for enthusiasts and petrol heads alike.

Is this from Seinfeld? Or King of Queens? Feels like it's from either one of those shows.

Love the review but a few things you guy miss interpreted: 1) 6L90 is pretty bulletproof and people have run 8s on stock units 2) mag rides are not that expensive, got mine for $250 each and super easy to install. Great car love mine, but you need the recaros though to hold you in properly.

I agree on the 6l90s being bulletproof and fast in a straight line. But for any sort of manual control of them they are pretty poor and slow to respond. Particularly when compared to a modern 8 speed auto or dual clutch. Sadly automatics historically age like milk particularly when in a performance application.
