Having "house shoes" and changing into them when I get in the doorway is second nature, having grown up in an Asian household. It's helps to keep the house clean as well.

I wash my clothes by hand which has extended the life. I wash my shoes every week as my shoes are expensive and was a gift to me.i hv separated slippers for inside and out.i clean my place every week. I look after my health too.

You're absolutely right Jennifer, hanging clothes to dry significantly extends the life span of clothing, especially anything with elastic. I hang the majority of my clothing; invested in good quality drying racks and have no desire to go back to using the dryer, the difference is so significant. Also, was just thinking about my top loader this weekend:) Funny that you're addressing it in this video! I was thinking that if I ever had to replace it, I would get another top loader, would not get a front loader with bells and whistles. I've had the same machine for 20 + years, my sister got a fancy front loader, it had to be replaced within 3 years. Not only do these tips save money, they also save the environment💕

Good morning - Another add to the appliance thought process. With the electric grid being less reliable and more power surges and outages happening, having more basic appliances will likely save you from having the internal computer components that most newer 'fancy' appliances have now fry . Samsung appliances have a PCB board in them, any power surge can take them out, as you mentioned you will likely be hard pressed for anyone to fix them. (On that note you can buy surge protectors for your appliances). We are big maintenance people, love this topic.

I take after my dad who is almost 90 - seeing things around the house and property that need fixing and maintaining- sometimes I have to wait till I can afford some repairs but just an ease of mind knowing that it’s repaired. I have a clothes line outside (that I don’t use) but glad I didn’t have them removed because you never know when you might need them - my neighbor says he regrets removing his. Great tips!!

100% agree with ‘fixing things before they get worse’ Our summerhouse roof felt came off in a storm, we didn’t have the money to fix it and left it for a full year… instead of a £200 fix, it’s now cost us nearly £1,000 to fix damp in the roof wood because of the lack of roof felt 😢

i have to wear shoes in the house because I have flat feet. But I do have a good pair that I can just wear inside and wear my outside shoes just outside! just now thought about it!

I've had a top load basic washer for 20 yrs. It's used every other day for my bed-bound husband. A salesperson at a big box store told me my Kenmore washer was one of the best. No frills.

I happened to find this just as I'm doing some clothes maintenance. I like to sit down and watch/listen to youtube while I fix and maintain the fairly small amount of clothes I own, so I guess that's one of my saving strategies. :)

I have a routine check list that I go through every month to maintain certain areas of my home. Doing regular check ups on your property always saves you time and money in the long run.

I take care of my shoes & boots by taking to shoe repair in the summer and they'll be ready for the fall/winter.

I kept my Honda Civic 15 years. Did all maintenance. I also, kept maintenance paperwork in the car side pocket.

I had older car,was great low mileage. Someone hit me, because my car was older the insurance company would not repair. Car was deemed as salvage. Only $4,000 was worth. Try to purchase car for that amount. Lesson learned...should have had higher insurance deductable .

I love my twin tub washing machine... still going nearly 20 years. Total control of washing time. I can wash and spin dry 4 loads of washing in half an hour. Also reuse the suds in each wash, lowering the cost and amount of detergent used.( I always peg out my clothes on a line or clothes airer when the weather is bad.

I'm a senior. The art of cleaning and maintaining things is lost in a throw away world. One of most people's bigger expense items are their vehicles - yet too many people cheap out on maintenance and end up with shorter vehicle life or more major repairs. I do all my own service and most repairs. I do engine oil and filter changes every 2,500 miles, automatic transmission filter and oil service every 25,000 miles. Some people say I can go 5,000 to 7,000 miles or more - but I say that oil changes are way less expensive than a new engine or transmission. I always go well into the 200k mile range on the original engine and often on the original transmission - even in cars that some people say are not reliable. My current daily driver is a 25 year old Lincoln Continental that I'll drive until reliability becomes an issue. I figure that every month that I keep it on the road is like putting $700 in my pocket compared to new car payments. I have a twin blade lawnmower and one of the common repairs is worn out blade spindles - so I modified my spindles with grease zerks and removing the inner seals on the bearings so that I can keep them completely lubed up to last nearly forever. Inside my house I am mindful of how I use things to keep them clean and in good condition - it has a cumulative effect that adds up to big money saving over the decades.

My husband used to fix everything but has Parkinson's and can't anymore. My daughter who lives close to us replaces our AC filter, smoke alarm batteries, caulking, etc. She knows how to do things from watching and helping her dad and KZfaq. My husband gave her a tool belt when she was little and both kids helped him build a shed and a garage when they were young. I don't have any of that talent.

Doesn't the ink on the paperwork eventually fade from the extreme temperature changes?

Fans. I take them apart once every seaaon and clean them. The blades especially get so full of lint and dirt and it drags on the motor making it less efficient and eventually burns it out. Same goes for ceiling fans.

I agree about appliances. The more computer run they are, the worse they are. I've watched videos of appliance repair people saying that Samsung and LG are the worst appliances. My 20 year old washer filled with water and nothing after that. Since it was 20 years old, I thought maybe time for a new one. Then a YT video said to reset it by unplugging, lifting the lid 6 times within a certain amount of seconds (which sounded a bit crazy to me, but we tried it) and it's been working ever since. Again, the list of trusted professionals gets smaller when they say they don't deal with the certain brand anymore (had that with trying to get a leaking LG dishwasher fixed - had to buy a new one).

I have samsung top load washing machine and it sucks. We almost got rid of it but my husband managed to fix it and now we can use it again. I bought LG washing machine for my mom and it's still working normally after 8 years.

Good video, thank you. We have a twice a year service from my air conditioning company to come out and service the heater and the air conditioner. They do the changing the filters too. That’s not a big thing, but making sure that the appliances are serviced is a big deal for us . Do you have an older mattress? Because our mattress is not to be flipped
