My dad had a painting company for 35 years I worked for him for 15 of those years and we would brush and roll fences one guy rolls the stain on another guy comes in behind and brushed it in and worked the edges at least for fences like that. We rarely busted out the sprayers for a fence or deck. It was all done with brushes and rollers we’d even do whole houses like that sometimes. Other times we’d mask it and spray it.

My wife uses a paint brush every time for everything it drives me insane.

Sponges last 2 seconds on unsanded product. Brushes work fine. Its a easy DIY solution and eveyone usually has them

I use a sock when staining small projects. I guess a sponge is the same deal but i like the sock because you get all those little fray pieces you can jam down in crevices.

airless sprayer all the way we stain on average 200' of fence a day here in texas panhandle got me messed up if you think im using a sponge and the only brushing we do is cut ins by the brick

Never used a sprayer, and I probably wouldn’t buy one for it as a one off project. I’d rather spend the extra time then have another item/items taking up space in the house.

"Is anyone useing a brush???" Ya that used to be the main way... now its just the cheap way not every one uses a sprayer

He quite literally is a fence expert. I'm sure if you paint your fence once every 10 years, a brush is fine. He probably paints close to 100 fences a year. It's not an elitist thing he's doing. It's an economics thing. It would be silly for him not to use a sprayer. I don't think it was a jab at people who use brushes.
