Just for future builds. Use a preacher board for your pearlings. Take a scrap 2x4 and put two nails 16 or 24 inch apart and leave them sticking out so once you have your first board on you can use the preacher board on the rest. It's called a preacher board because it doesn't lie lol

On a metal roof like that, run a screw thru the rib at the seam at the top, middle, and bottom of the panel. This is called “stitching” the panels, and helps hold those seams shut, and guarantees that the edge won’t peel up in the wind! 14:06

When you nailed down the 2x4 purlins, did you use ring shank nails? Reason I ask is I have seen so many roofs get ripped completely off 2x4 intact to the roof like a huge panel when regular nails were used. Ring shank or screws are best
@ProjectDadLife

Yes I used ring shank galvanized nails on everything! Thanks for the support!

What size of ringshank nails did you use? Did you use a couple of different sizes? I am building a barn next week and would appreciate what you used and your source. Thank you

On your overlaps run 2" roof screws it will suck it tight and not make it standout, plus it will help from wind ever getting under and lifting the pannel

Those 1/4 bits or 5/16 bits pay the money and get magnetized bits so they don't slip out. looks good.

It may also depend on the placement of the screws, i usually place the screw within about an 1 inch from the over lapping seam so it helps in making it a tighter fit. But good job!
@ronriehle1337
@ronriehle1337 5 ай бұрын
Yes. Then plan the other rows of screws from there. Some places put a row (up and down) on each side of overlaps. Makes tighter laps and strengthens against pealing in strong winds.

Lot of considered using air bubble foil insulation underneath your metal panels the barn will condensate on the inside and you will have water damage and drops dripping from everywhere
@ProjectDadLife
@ProjectDadLife 8 ай бұрын
Totally agree, but this barn will never be sealed up that much. Thanks for watching!

Pretty sure you may have installed the panels wrong. The seam on one side is usually cut differently so they only overlap correctly in one direction.
@ProjectDadLife

Thanks for watching. The panel’s have one overlap edge and so there’s really only one way to install them

When you put your metal up. Did you put double sided tape on the ridges that over lap? Not exactly tape, can't remember what it is. Also did you screw the ridges down that over lap?

When I did my metal roof I screwed through the rib. This puts your screws on the highest point of the roof and also ties that seam together

What’s the reason for not doing the lower roof tin first? I think that make it easier to stand on while doing the top section?

Never screw in the valley or pan on the roof. Use 65mm screws on the ridges and you won't see the overlap.

I probably missed it or it was not shown. Did you install at peak the moulded foam seal strips between roof panels and ridge cap to make watertight and bug proof so wind does not blow rain into barn? Ray
@ProjectDadLife
@ProjectDadLife 10 ай бұрын
Hey Ray thanks for watching. No I didn’t add foam closures under the ridge cap. I don’t think it will be an issue but if it does cause one i can always add them later.

Thanks for taking time to answer. I've put up many steel bldgs. and price you got for the "R" panels used for your roof would be attractive 5 years ago today they are fantistic. Ray@@ProjectDadLife

Not sure if Kubota's automatically lower their boom over time or if you have a slight hydraulic leak. I notice the front bucket begins to lower around the 10:10 mark. Just curious.

There 4.5/12 pitch

I believe you have improperly screwed the roof on. According to most manufacturer’s specs, there should be a screw on both sides of each rib on each purloin. Screws should never be centered between ribs as this contributes to the wind damage.

Your videos ..... They're good BUT stop taking the "cheapest bid" and having higher expectations. I understand you desiring certain things like painted screws and specific trims BUT if the bidders do not have a SPEC written by you to do the job and you agree to what they're offering .... What they do should be acceptable. I've been in the supply business all my life and I've lost jobs because I have walked away because it was evident that all the buyer cared about us CHEAPEST PRICE without a clue of what they desired and then be a major pain in the ass. The metal on this building you took the cheapest price .... Then you picked out their lap .... There are exposed fastener panels with a leg that draws the panels together when screwed BUT it costs more ... Probably what your other bidders priced BUT lost the job. Your issues are brought out because of your knowledge being less and desire to pay less .... You seem like a solid dude but write a spec so you get what you desire ... If you do and the product doesn't meet such then you have issue. Otherwise suck it up and learn for next time.

I didn’t bid out anything on this build. Did everything myself. if you are referring to the metal shop build, if you watch the whole video, I didn’t take the lowest bid the bid I accepted was middle of the road between five other bids
Checking how level the WHOLE chateau has stayed.
