THANKS MUSTIE, for adjusting the camera, setting everything up, moving the camera, getting in close, thinking of us all thetime...can we see at this angle, explaining how this works and what needs to happen to make it work right. Do asthetics here and a little paint there...go adjust the camera again, show and tell, drive around like a kid on a go-cart, having fun and giving us a real-fast tour of your enormous shop, and all of it that you do! then all the editing and uploading that it takes to get it where WE can watch a genius at work...WOW...KEWL !!! Thank you! Then the paint shaker doo-lolly the mating frogs and the big lake! all of that is gravy!!! Your witt is like non other and your knowledge is out of this world! Thanks again! Bill, from Tn. 🇺🇸

Even though I am 58 year old guy watching you figure out, patch up, work out the problem so much reminds me I'm watching my father getting us by. We were a big family and never had much money and nothing was new. My dad could fix anything and I would watch him and at his creativity and skill. Mustie, you are ALMOST as good as my dad!

Love what you're doing, I'm 17 and I've been watching for almost 3 years now, have learned so much from you, you inspired me to make a little money on the side from school by repairing and servicing old outboards. So I wake up this morning, Lord of my castle. I see the notification of a Mustie1 and head to the family room to enjoy my Mustie1 fix. I walk in an my wife is sitting on the couch , she smiles as I walk in and says " First you grout the tiles in the bathroom and THEN you can watch Mustie1" It's always nice to be reminded, who is really the boss. It's worth the wait, I enjoy watching you wrench on stuff. If I'm working in the garage, I will put you on the Tv and it keeps me motivated to keep going or figure out a solution. Thanks and keep it going, I've got a ton of projects to complete.

bearings... Can't tell you how many times I've resurrected them.. Skated a 62 mile race in Central park,(inline skating) start to finish in the rain with oiled bearings one side open on each bearing. Basically water lubricated the bearings after a few miles. Race over, skates dried off and put in a bag. 4 days later, back home in california, every wheel (10) frozen solid. Soaked them in W-D 40, then after a day, used my lathe, and spun them in a wheel one by one till they broke free. Then I soaked them again after cleaning them till no more orange came out. Used those bearings for up to 100 miles a week for a year to train in and they actually worked ok. You could hear me coming from a mile away though. :). BAck in the day "fafnirs" were the best bearings..... Like pre 1980.

Mustie, on the 318, the altenator puts out 28 - 30 volts AC. It goes into the rectifier/regulator, and comes out as around 13.8 volts DC. The yellow charge light measures voltage, not amps. It comes on whrn battety voltage is less than 12.7 vdc Note: Mine had a worn wire, behind the front pulley, where it leads to the starter. This bled voltage off, which caused constant charging, and boiling the battery. The cost of reg/rectifier is $90 from deere, but can be bought, new for around $20, aftermarket. Mine was the exact same Mallory, as the deere was. An oversize snow blower sprocket is available, to make auger turn faster........

On the 318, test the two wires going to the voltage regulator with an AC meter. Should be 20 to 30 volts AC If it does the regulator may be bad.
@notajp
@notajp 4 жыл бұрын
kevin faulkner Actually, at full throttle you should see about 28 -30 VAC. The regulator rectifier will cut that by half to about 14-15 VDC. Charging voltage should always be higher than resting battery voltage. Resting voltage on a fully charged battery in good condition should be about 13.8 V.

@Beard 79: They make an injector needle that snaps in place of a zerk in a regular grease gun. Let's you grease right past that seal. I got one so I can grease the squeaking bearing in a bread maker.

Don't forget to put some 00 grease mixed with regular grease in the transmission, dry grease is what killed mine. (exact same mower)

Great vid & repair. When your air hammer quit for a bit, I thought that's how my day goes. We went camping at Lookout mountain in summer time. Man, wrong time to go, frogs kept us up all night. They can make you go crazy.

I was a lil bummed you didn't give the deck a nice repaint like you did with the green rear fenders. But excellent job as usual.

I wish I lived in a area they just give mowers like that away. Here they would put it on FB for 150.00 and say I think it needs carb work or something. lol

Yes, the same here. I seen a 20 year old lawn tractor with a blown engine on Craigslist and they want $100.00 dollars for it. I guess it is because people watch the American Pickers TV show and think everything is worth a lot of money.

I’ve wrapped a little Teflon tape around the threads and then filled the knob with JB weld. When it hardens you can unscrew it and the threads remain. Easy peasy.

Ohio farmer, I haven’t tried it on a key way, but imagine it would work fine depending on how much force there is on it. Hope it works great for you!

I had a similar issue with spindle bearings. They had grease fittings and sealed bearings. Took out the inner seals and put in new fittings. Been good to go for almost 4 seasons.

I could only figure out the grease is to keep the inner spindle from rusting as it served no purpose to grease them other than to see grease come out where the blades were bolted to. Basically wasting grease.

I had a noisy spindle on a Deere John L130, took it apart to replace bearing(s) and found the OEM sealed bearings. Now I just don't grease them.
@dwendt44

the grease pumped into a spindle with sealed bearings could work as a heat sink. The spindles do get warm if not hot while mowing for any length of time.
