Welcome back to another episode here at Full Throttle!! Today I will be covering the procedure of removing and repairing my command control knob in my W204 Mercedes C63 AMG that saved me over $300!! The removal will be the same for all W204 models and will be similar in all other models. The physical repair of the control knob will be the exact same for all models using this command controller. FUN FACT! The replacement part was around $20 and I found $32 of change under the center console. I actually Made $12 by doing this repair!!
JUMP TO 8:44 to skip removal and watch repair procedure.
Symptoms of Fault would be rotating knob with response on the monitor. Knob works up-down-left-right but no rotation. When the wheel is turned, no reaction on the screen will be shown. All other functions such as confirming and tilting the controller are given. The Fault: A plastic shaft within the scroller knob unit snaps causing the scroll function to no longer work on the screen. This is a very common fault on these vehicles and is a very simple solution without spending hundreds on a new unit. The solution is to order a new aluminum shaft to replace the oem plastic one. This will restore the function of the scrolling feature in your control knob. Please see affected vehicles below.
As always I greatly appreciate the support remember to smash that like button and Subscribe today so you don’t miss out on any new content!
Leave your comments and thoughts down below! Any questions do not hesitate to ask.

This information is for guidance only, please inspect your command knob unit to ensure compatibility.

• Small pick

I am also thankful - good video - note some audio missing - note 2 my 2010 glk had no clip, was Taped - note 3 the replacement part was tapped for a smaller screw size for the control knob screw so I opened it up with a 3/32” bit slightly

Thanks for this video. If anyone has the cabriolet model, you need to remove the whole console center to gain access. Remove the rear air blowers and then remove the 2 T20 screws. Then remove the additional T20 screw under the cup holders and you can remove. Disconnect the roof control pin connector and you are able to remove. Then proceed as the video has shown.

Thanks a bunch. After quite some time of cursing, I did it. Did not have the nice hook/pick tool which made it all harder. Really struggled with getting the wire loose from under the shifter area. The buttons outer circle also gave me quite a headache because it wouldn't budge. Thanks a lot!

Thanks for reaching out, sorry about the delay in response. Depending on which model you should have able to do the repair in the vehicle if needed. Issue is some of them like the w204 has very little play in the wire harness meaning you have to disconnect the wiring. That being said if you can have enough slack you could definitely do the repair inside with out completely removing. The other reason I wanted to remove fully is to have better camera and light for the viewers to see exactly what I was doing. What model do you have? Any tips on how to use the pick to release the plungers? Am I pulling up on the pick or pushing toward the center? Do I push or pull near the motherboard or higher up the shaft? I'm stuck here...
@FullThrottleBHP
@FullThrottleBHP 2 жыл бұрын
Hello, Thanks for reaching out! I hope you are finding the video helpful and I can certainly see where you may be getting stuck. If you are referring to around the 14:00 min mark the 4 black plunger or housing's. You want to take the pick near the bottom. You are going to use the pick to push inwards closer to the base. This should release the small clip that is securing it to the base. As you push the pick in to release try to pull up slightly with your other hand and pick. This should release and allow you to remove them. Some of mine were a little more stubborn then others. If you have any other questions or if I miss understood where you are talking about be sure to let me know! Thank you again for your support and please consider leaving a thumbs up or subscribing to the channel if you haven't already! @@FullThrottleBHP thanks for the reply. I finally got them off a few minutes after I made the comment. What seemed to work for me was to get the pick behind a tab on the plunger housing that interlocked with the motherboard, gently pull out on the tab with the pick and lift the plunger housing off of the motherboard. My eyesight is too poor to confirm what I thought but it seemed to work with no damage done. You have the best video out here of the many I looked at. Thanks for doing this!

Do you need to reprogram once you replaced the knob?

Thanks for reaching out! I hope you enjoyed the episode and be sure to hit that like button and subscribe as well to help support the channel. Regarding your question you do not need to re program anything. I consider this a "plug and play" rapair/mod that you can easily do with no further coding or programing needed. Simply follow the steps with the unit unplugged powered off. Once finished install back into the vehicle plug it in and you will be good to go. Thank you again for you support and if you have any other questions do not hesitate to reach out. ...I have to ask! What model are you looking to do the repair to? - Full Throttle

@@FullThrottleBHP Thank you for your reply, my 2012 E350 Coupe needs to be fixed but I was told that a reprogram needs to be done, so I haven't done anything yet.

Great Video mate. I have a Cabrio (A207) and I do not know how I can remove the torx screw which is in my case ''hidden'' by the roof control module. would you know how to remove the roof control module ?

Did you ever figure out how to remove the roof control module? I have a 2011 Cabrio too and need to do this job. Thx!

@@ZGdiverdown Hello. the only hint I found was to remove the complete central trim panel. Unfortunately on Cabrio it's the only way. ?ill do it this summer when the plastic is not cold and prone to breaking.
