Those 250cc bikes are underrated, great little grocery getter. Ive got two.

The little spring loaded tool is for checking belt tension! The manual explains how to use it, I believe there is a hole on the top of the belt guard that it fits into. Great video 👍

That is a Beautiful bike that someone clearly loved and took incredible care of! Super clean, all the chrome was in great shape, and all it needed was your typical carb clean! Got a stean this one dude!

Holy crap, that brings back a recent memory! A lady I went to high school with (and we are 1968 hs graduates), had an old Honda 250 Rebel she had bought new. At one point, her daughter rode it from here (North Alabama) down to Florida and back! Not sure I'd ride a 250 that far, but she definitely had an adventurous spirit. After sitting idle in her back garage for many many years, she decided she wanted it made to run, so she asked me if I'd try to do that for her. Took my truck over and dug that thing out, and man did it look pitiful! Flat dry rotted tires, rims rusted over, exhaust and handlebars rusted over, paint looked like chalk, engine crusted over. My youtube channel was in its infancy then, so I didn't think to get "before" pics of it, or the reconstruction of it. Long story short, new tires, new battery, new chain, lots and lots of Evaporust, lots of rubbing and polishing compound, carb rebuild,. many hours of buffing and shining, that thing came out looking like it was just off the showroom floor. I did get short youtube clip of its first start, and then a quick twirl on it that I made to show her the progress. I put it up in the back of my truck to take back to her, but made a stop at the gym for a workout on the way..... folks at the gym tried to buy that thing right off my truck. I have to say, it looked spectacular. Maybe not as nice as that one you did, but it was sweet. Kudo's to you for all you do. Awesome content sir. Looking forward to the next one. But to me, this one was kind of special.

Joe, I noticed that when you put the bike on the center stand, you physically lifted the weight of the bike with your right hand. The only right way to do it, is to push the center stand down with your right foot, then Rock the bike away from you a little bit until both center stand feet are touching the ground, then push down with your right foot and lift slightly with your right hand, letting the leverage of the stand itself do the work. with a bike any heavier than that Honda, you would never be able to lift it onto the stand using brute Force. Anyway, I enjoy your videos, especially the one you did with the 1979 RM 125 a while back!

Awesome bike bud but just a heads-up the WD-40 is hard on paint unlike plastic I would definitely get it off that tank before you end up with the white hazy paint look from the sun cooking the WD-40. I found out the hard way myself.

Most of the street bikes from the 80s we're jetted superlean for emissions and most always need choke and warmup to run properly.

I just got a 450 automatic while my XR650 gets some attention Hondas are forever!

Another job well done sir. I just saved a Toro snowblower from the scrap pile and all it needed was a carb clean and a spark plug. Runs great. Keep saving them man. God bless

It is indeed a beauty. I love the looks and comfort of the early Japanese cruisers. My first brand new bike was a 1981 Suzuki GS450L. Other than a few dual sports, I've been riding cruisers ever since. I'd love to have a small cruiser like that. I really like the stepped seat, tall pullback bars, the centerstand, and all the chrome. That's the same engine that was later used in the Rebel 250. Pretty much bulletproof. There should have been a screwdriver in the tool kit. The thing you didn't know what was is a tension gauge for adjusting the belt tension. Airbox cover is missing. That EPA tab on the pilot screw can be removed using a Dremel with a cutoff wheel, so you can adjust it with the engine running. Sounds just like my 2016 Honda Rebel 250. Even the mirrors look the same.

Having owned several Hondas.. also ensure your fluids being used are Honda rated. This includes oil, clutch, gear oil. brake fluid etc If you need to, go to the dealer and buy the proper fluid instead of cheaping out and buying any off the shelf fluid.. Might be a few dollars more but it has been proven if you dont use the recommended fluids, you will be in for big trouble down the road. This goes for all Honda vehicles.

Brings back some memories. I had a Honda cm 200 forty one years ago it was my first "big bike" . Your cm250 is imaculate.

I just bought a 82 CM 250. The CM 250 bikes were only built 82-84 and then they became the CMX or the "Rebel". The 82 and 84 bikes were chain driven while the 83 was belt driven. This is a great looking bike! Wish mine looked like this, Mine needs an almost complete rebuild but nothing I can't handle, I'm not building it original anyway. I'm going to build a bobber.

What a sweet ride! I was 16 and had the chance to purchase the same bike. I'm 47 now and I never did buy that bike or even rode one since. Something came up and altered that course in that part of my life. Thanks for the wonderful memories. Take care from Canada eh!

Funny thing I noticed was on your test drive, the turn signal stayed on...I always forget to push or slide it off...just got my bike out today and washed...oil change, new battery and gas tomorrow😀💚thankyou for informative video!

Cool bike! Love the way lower (than normal) displacement multi cylinder bikes and auto engines sound, and especially the snappier/higher revving nature of them. Just picked up a Yamaha RD350 the other day that was in desperate need of restoration and almost have it torn down for a full frame off already lol.

Nice bike, I just purchased an 83 GL1100 Standard for 800, 29k and same owner for 34 years. He purchased it back in February 89. Who owns anything that long. It did have a near death experience with a deer, but she survives as beautiful as ever.

I had a 1983 Kawasaki 440 LTD that looked and sounded much like that one. Such a smooth ride.

Carbs have to come out through airbox location, sucks to remove usually and the cables are always a pain that bezel on top of air box removes. Gorgeous bike. Great find!

A great bike and a great find...but I'm going to respectively challenge your "you probably couldn't find a cleaner Honda CM250 Custom like this one" statement. I just picked up one for $250, the guy just wanted it out of his garage. His son bought it to drive the Summer of '83 before attending college, he thinks he paid about $900. He drove it 268 miles and parked it in the garage for safe keeping before leaving for college. The path of his life changed and he never returned to claim his bike. His dad left it where it was and I bought it 40 years later. Still had the break-in oil and every original factory sticker. I changed the oil, the battery and cleaned the fuel tank and carb. It started the first push of the button and everything works. It was covered with a sheet the entire 40 years, so with some 0000 steel wool and chrome polish for the brightwork and polishing compound for the paint, it looks showroom new. 268 miles...what a find. You should see pics. Good luck to you.

A little trick I use to get carb screws out. Is use jis screwdriver with a bit of valve lapping compound in screwhead.

Sweet find. Most 250’s get beat up from first time riders learning and dropping them. They also end up going through a lot of owners in a small amount of miles. While the bike might not be rare, it’s rare to find one especially that old that is so well taken care of! I’ve got a 1982 CM450 turned into a scrambler. 80’s Honda bikes are the best.

The timing was infamous on these , something about it coming undunn . The tool kit being there is a way bonus 👍

❤ OMG!! :') Looking like my very first street legal bike, an '82 cm250, that I had the honor and joy to ride over the ENTIRE STATE of Colorado in 1986, '87. So impressed with it, I upped to a cm450 in '88, my sophomore year in high school. Looking at the specs on it now, it claimed a top speed of only 66mph, but I know for a darn fact I could get that puppy up to nearly 80 going north on I-25! Thanks for the memories 💭🛵

I had the 125cc one of these bikes back in the 90s .looked cool back in the day but have a few issues. The worst being the full tanks would rot out of the bottom and drip onto pipes and catch fire.

I like this style of bike. They made a nice 125cc identical to this too. Comfy and stylish and UNDER desired! These bikes will be COOL in a couple of years! 👍

1983! Its a credit to the female owner. Looks like a Top dead centre tool, is the thread the same as the spark plug?(its a belt tension tool apparently) Stop scraping the brass fuel needle seat with a steel tool! Checking the oil is step one. 'Not my style of bike', now its a keeper, the lil' Honda works its magic. (He actually decides to keep it from the start, l missed that)

I helped my GF at the time buy an '86 Twinstar after she did MSF class. Cool little bike but not really a freeway bike. Great MPG with single carb tho

I'd give $900 for a 234cc Honda twin motor with on spec compression for just the motor in a crate. I've got the same motor, SU carb in a later moder CB with 50000mi and it still runs great. The CM250 Custom was the best of the three (Custom, Rebel, CB250) with the belt drive on the Custom...rare on such a small bike. Really smooth with the butter click gearbox in that 234. 19hp with 8hp brakes though. Plan your ride.

What a gorgeous profile ! That bike is SICK. Honda sure knows how to do it right. EDIT : Wow, a Belt Driven 250 is something I've never seen. I LOVE how Honda made small displacement motor bikes with bike bike features. It is innovative and respectful to the rider who wants all the bells and whistles, but just a little smaller. I'd love to know if your opinion has changed on cruisers like that. Wow, I love your collection of bikes and ATV's.

One of these days, you are going to start one of those bikes and find that it has no oil in it due to a leak. You should always check the oil first thing before you do anything. Then check the air filter next. Then crank and check for spark, etc.

I new how to shift before I could walk. I am buying a Shop Service Manual, I have OCD so everything I own I take care of it and keep it as Original as possible. I bought a 85 VT 500c shaft drive Honda Shadow for $1,400. 2 yrs ago that only had 12,355 miles on it. I'm the 5th owner. It's been a low mileage bike all it's life. It was 1st sold in 95, And I bought it 2021 with 12,355 miles on it. I didn't get my license until Feb 2022 so it wasn't driven. I'm on a fixed income. I used my Stimulus check to buy it. and my 2nd stimulus check to cover the back taxes that were owed on the motorcycle and the registration that was past due, and then to get full coverage with motorcycle insurance. *Before I had a chance to register the bike in my name * It was hit in the parking lot by a elderly neighbor. He backed into the bike, I had the Guardian all weather cover that came with the bike on it and it was sitting on the center stand. He hit the front end first and pushed it backwards about 5' bent the left side of the handlebars the shifter peg the left foot rest broke the mirror and broke the left side controls He did about $400.00 in original 85 parts that had to be replaced. I replaced everything with Original 85 Honda Parts. * I took it to a Well Liked Locale Motorcycle Mechanic Shop up here in Shasta County, Ca. * I asked to get a tune up on the bike. I was willing to pay up to $400-$600. He looked at it, Laughed and said Most those bike have been run the piss out of them and there not worth fixing up. He wouldn't even touch it. I asked if I start it will you tell me whats wrong. He did , He said the carbs need to be rebuilt that's it's running on one carb in low rpm's, ""The front forks oil seals are broken"", the back brake needs replacement. It idles at 1,100 rpm currently, It starts right up every time, except in the extreme cold of 30-40's then with the choke on it might be the 3-4th crank to fire. I've run 2 cans of Seafoam through the gas tank in the past 4 months of driving. I bought a set of 85 VT500c carbs for it out of Washington for $200. "Very Clean" I took my time and rebuilt the carbs with new rebuild kits and adjusted to my sea level of 900-1,300 with new lower rubber inlets and new rubber diaphragms and cleaned the needles. I bought a set of Dialed Carb Sync (4) type. I know where the vacuum tubes connect but the two carbs are connected as 1 and only 1 adjustment screw. I don't know how to Sync the carbs. Because it's my only transportation, I don't have a garage I live in a apartment complex. "Not even sure if the Complex will let me work on it in the parking lot" I need to pull the forks apart and redo them with the right amount of oil I think that's 139cc per shock of 10w and then replace the oil rings on the shocks, and then reassemble and add 4-6 lbs. of air pressure to each. When I bought it I replaced the crappy oil that was in it, and replaced it with Mobile 1 V-twin Full synthetic 20w50 because where I live the summer heat gets to 118+ so that black road is at leaast 140F+ Yes you cook at the Stop lights. Thank god it's water cooled, My bike is as clean as yours on this video, It's the one pictured in my profile pic.

My 83 cx500 does the job aswell! Really needed a clutch tho, the old friction plates disintegrated in my hands, made the new oil pitch black within 400km, wich is how i found out about it

You have a beautiful and valuable bike there. What a find ! Honda later made the CB250 Nighthawk and 250 Rebel. Both carried the same motor (234cc) , which is quite similar to the motor your bike has. The single carburettor was later changed to a diaphragm type. I had the Nighthawk 250 for many years as my main "go-for" bike until last year. Very zippy, good on gas, and reliable. Just put gas and go ! The front drum brake was poor for a bike with that zip, but the Rebel had a disc. Persons seeing that bike you have will say "Wow !" Trinidad & Tobago. West Indies.

Your best bet is to take off all the parts, clean them up, and part it out. I doubt there's that many people who is looking to buy one of those but for the people who already have them, they prollly need parts.

I lost the left side plastic cover off my 82 CM450C. I safety wired the right side cover on after that. Spilled brake fluid from the reservoir when filling will really take off the paint on the tank, so beware. I lube my chain with vaseline and a tooth brush on my chain. Dunno how good it is, but it's clear and cheap. I use Shell Rotella Synthetic for oil. Luggage rack is super nice to have on it. Both kickstands kinda swck. Fugly bike but I plan to keep mine until I dle or it stops running from a catastrophic failure. There is a pull choke to the bottom left of the speedo. You need it when the engine is cold for the first mile.

Idle circuit usually plugs up, typical of a Keihin carb. #35 pilot jet has a very small orifice in it and gets stopped up if you even think about it. Thankfully, it uses a single carb so easy peasy to work on. That carb has primary and secondary mainjets, the 2nd jet you removed is the secondary mainjet. Great video!🏍🏍🏍

That bike has spent all of it's life in a garage attached to the house in a controlled environment . And you said you didn't like the styling of that bike there is nothing wrong with it if I remember correctly it was also available in a 650 and 750 you couldn't get any better. My dad just picked up the same exact bike, 9k miles, it is cold blooded even in the summer. Once its warm it runs very smooth. I'd say it's worth keeping in that condition. The Honda rebel used a chain, belts seem to last longer. I think rebels had twin carbs but the custom only really needs one anyway.

A bike thats been sitting for a long time needs the oil level checked before starting for the first time. How would you know if there was any oil in it at all? Could have wrecked it on first start-up. Oil barely showed on the dipstick.
