I got this sad little engine at the scrapyard, since this engine is hard to find and saw it locked up but not destroyed, I had to try and give it a second chance at life. This is part 1 of the restoration.
Stay safe! Love you all!

Looks like you need to make a stand for these horizontal engines, so there not sitting on the PTO shaft ~ and at a strange angle

That is a good idea actually. I'll get to work on one soon.

It’s not horizontal, it’s vertical shaft.

Question. Have you ever been working on a small engine and stumble across something and think "who hurt you?"
@AJRestoration

Almost every time haha, most thoughts are "Why did they do this to you"

It must be a really old Honda engine, I know that they made a HR173 engine which was a flatheaded engine. I recently rebuilt an overhead cam Honda GSV190 for my fathers lawnmower & it doesn't run an oil pump like the engine in the video does,it's all splash lubricated. I managed to save the blade boss which was rusted onto the shaft as well,I am sure that if you had an oxy acetylene torch you could've removed the pulley using Taryls heat and quench trick !

Yes this engine is pretty damn old. First of this kind I ever saw, I only knew of the smaller engines such as the HR173 you mentioned. When I saw this one in the scrap heap I HAD to try and save it.

That powerful Honda engine probably came off of a 33 inch commercial push lawn mower.

Most probably yes, Wish I could find the mower deck.

Man! From what I've seen of this, I wouldn't want to work on one of these engines.

You would think as reliable as Honda engines should be, that this engine rebuild shouldn't be too bad. Hopefully you can get it running just fine.

5hp DELUXE, wonder what makes it deluxe? Less rust than usual? 😅 That poor engine was used and abused. Kudos!
@AJRestoration
@AJRestoration 9 ай бұрын
I have no idea haha the deluxe sticker probably has something to do with the chassis or equipment it came from. Could have been one of Honda's premium lawnmowers.

Was the engine under water at one point?

I have no idea, but it could have been yes, the amount of rust and corrosion is more than usual.
