PLEASE SHARE this incredible story: Hope for Paws received a phone call about a rescue in an unusual location. Venus was found abandoned in the desert, absolutely frightened of human contact. We use every humane resource possible and try to be as gentle with every animal we rescue. Unfortunately we were bound to an area where we couldn’t confine Venus and asked Dr. Scott Amsel to help us tranquilize her. After she came around, I took the time to gain her trust. For homeless and abused dogs this is a very difficult process and takes time. At Hope for Paws, we give them all the time they need. Once she was ready, we took her back to LA, where she was pampered like a goddess. With over 30,000 stray, abused, abandoned and homeless dogs in Los Angeles alone, we always encourage adoption as a first choice for a pet. J

Abandoning a dog in the desert. What a coward and cruel thing to do. You're basically sentencing the dog to a long and painful death. Abandoning a pet is a horrible thing already, so why make it 1000 times worse by choosing a desert? I will never understand what goes through the mind of some people... Luckily nice people were there.

Idk why people are so cruel to animals what have they done to those people other than being loyal and loving conpanians and leaving them to die is the worst thing u can do especially in a desert u know the dog wont survive so why not give it a loving home with a family that will actually take care of them forever these people who do this disgust me and shouldn't even have pets if they know in there heart they can't love and care for the loving and caring creature!

She was trying to be a good girl by staying near the place she was left behind, thinking her owners would come back for her. Dogs are such loyal creatures. Whoever abandoned her, didn't deserve her.

Theyre are many breeds of Shepherd. White is pretty common! She's been adopted! I looked at the website they mentioned at the end and she's no longer available. :) Plenty of other dogs are available that need a good home though, just as beautiful and in need as Venus was. If you're serious about adopting you should check out your local shelters!

I spent some time in jail and can tell you that abusing dogs is something that can get your head cracked open. There was an older black gentlemen in with us who was getting his food stolen right off his tray and taunted/threatened the entire time I was there. I asked what was going on and the people I was hanging around with told me it was because he killed his gf's pitbull. The only reason he wasn't being outright assaulted was because he was older, 65 +.

This happened to my mom, she lives in Prescott AZ. She was out riding her horse and found a beautiful German Shepard abandoned way, way out in the middle of nowhere:( I’ll never understand people. P.s we took her in and she was the most loyal, protective, and loving dog we’ve ever been lucky enough to call family.

every video I cry Why? This makes me so happy, I would do anything to have '101 dalmatians' (it's a reference) It kills me to know these dogs are thrown out of a car window in the middle of no where to be left to die! It's also horrible to think about the kids that have these pets and the parents the kids have are that self-ish to throw away a dog THEY HAVE LIVES TOO !! THEY DESERVE BETTER!!! Such a beautiful animal. What a waste it would have been if she had died out there alone and abandoned. Do they ever contact breed rescues to find homes for these dogs? Such organizations are usually very good at interviewing prospective owners and checking out the homes before handing such a creature over to anyone. I'm sure there must be German Shepherd rescues in that area. Let's hope this girl's new home is a loving forever home.

My dog's name was Venus, she was a Husky, Collie and German Shepard. She went though 5 rescues and no one wanted her because she was so big and barked so loud. Eventually we found her in a shelter ready to be put to death. We went in to save her from being killed. We adopted her when she was 9. We took her home and loved and cared for her. She was the sweetest soul. After a while she got sick and got arthritis, given by her size. We tried our hardest, but the vet said Venus was sad , he said that she wasn't happy living with the pain. So we gave her hugs and treats, before we said our goodbyes. Venus was cremated and is in our front door shelf. The vet office gave us a clay paw print of Venus, and a card that said "Sorry for your loss, Venus was an amazing dog." She lived up to age 14. ❤️

I imagined how they abandoned that dog : Drive in the dessert ...throws the dog away ....drive away while the dog is chasing the car but he can't....probably stayed in the same spot everyday hoping they might come back

I think she already did. I live about 2 hours away from where they had her and I was interested on adopting her so I went on the website and she is not longer there.

Been watching and supporting you all for years. Never, ever saw a tranquilizer dart used. How truly horrifying to watch. But I absolutely trust your process. Poor li'l peanut. So glad you were able to save her. Very unusual rescue indeed.

I have no words for the person who abandoned this beautiful dog in the desert. Each time that I see that you all have to dart the dogs is so sad to see them try to get away from the danger that they fear. Wow this was a fabulous rescue. I can’t believe someone would leave their dog in the desert what is wrong with people. I’m so glad looks like she found a very beautiful home of people to love her. Thank you for rescuing this beautiful girl

Just imagine... beside a highway... it's really hot and you're dirty... you're dehydrated and scared... then you get shot with something and panic overcomes you... you're fighting to stay awake, but you can't... and suddenly, you awake in a strange place feeling loads better... with clean water and cool air. Animals usually don't know what we are doing. They are braver than we think.

I cried when she shot the tranquilizer and the dog made a pained noise and was unconscious. My pitbull/childhood best friend was murdered with a gun. All he was doing was barking at the neighbors dog through a fence. Part of me died that day. Experienced hallucinations and nightmares for months.

I don't know why digs have to suffer in this world so much. What do they do to you? they are innocent and they don't know. they are just puppies and they deserve to be happy and feel love. like humans. But to be honest humans don't deserve dogs. Humans just make them suffer all day long. They hit them. They cook them. They eat them. they do horrid things to them. (not to be racist) but in China they do dogs like that. They treat them like crap. and I don't like that. That's why when I grow up I want to save dogs like these people and be a veterinarian.

That's what I wanted to be, only I never follow my dream to become one and I also got side tracked by some people. My advice to you...follow your dream and don't let anyone into your life that's wants to detour you from it, good luck sweetie. I know you will be a great vet. I watch this show on tv sometimes about this man who is a vet, he in his 80's and is still tending to animals, bless this man. His whole family is involved in his practice, he even makes house calls for farm animals. I don't know how he does it at that age, he so busy all day, every day.

Normal tranquilizer effect. Good idea though, that way the dog couldn't escape. Cool side effect: The dog has no stress being transported into the hospital. Should use that more often.
