Today we are helping an elderly woman get her overgrown lawn under control. She received a city violation notice on her door. We contacted her to see if she needed help cleaning up her lawn but she said she already had someone coming out to clean it up over the weekend. We stopped by on Monday to make sure that she had got it cleaned up and unfortunately the other contractor left her with a big mess. We didn't want her to get a fine from the city so we decided to clean up her overgrown lawn for free.

When I bought my current home, there was a house behind me on the next street over that looked like this. I went over to ask if the person needed help, it's a wheelchair-bound old lady who said her neighbor used to do it for her, but he's in his 80s now and it's too much for him. I've taken care of the property for her for the last few years now

The city should be checking on the residents not giving them violations. There could be million reasons the lawns weren’t done. It’s sad the city was more concerned with the look of the street than the well-being of the citizens. Thank you for taking care.

Wow. I rem when we were little kids of the baby boom. The boys started to take on mowing the family yards at about 8 yrs old. Every week one of the boys just went across the street and mowed the elderly window's yard. She lived on the corner in a terrace house w flowers, bushes and trees, front, side, and back. Sometimes she would give them cookies or a nickel. Nobody ever asked for money. Nobody ever whined or moaned that it wasn't their turn, one finished w his yard and just went on to do the work for the lady who was alone. I grew up thinking men were really great. I hope there are some little girls on that street watching these guys. And i hope the lady in that house does drop dead of a heart attack from the shock of someone helping her w/o being asked or paid. Thanks guys.

Honestly, the likelihood is is that she probably has some sort of symptom or personality trait that the neighbors deem unsavory. I needed a lot of help with my yard as a disabled person and had a bunch of people judging me for not always bringing my trash can in on time, but they didn't want to approach me bc they knew I'm mentally ill and saw me as "that crazy neighbor" 🙄 she may not be easy to deal with, but none of us are. I wouldn't be surprised if it was her neighbor that filed the original complaint. So much for "Love thy neighbor " There are evil people out there who prey on the elderly. Surely if you see that your neighbor's property is overgrown then it is apparent that the homeowner is unable to do it themselves due to being sick or not being at home etc. Between the neighbor's on either side of this property they could have taken turns to cut this lawn on a bi-weekly or monthly basis. But incredible of this generous chat to assist the home owner.

I try to keep the alley behind my house cleaned up, even though the trash gets thrown around by the garbage truck, the neighbors, passerbys and others. When a storm comes through, the palm trees blow dead fronds all over the entire block across the street. So I go out and pick up the debris and stack it next to a palm so the landscape guys can get it on their next trip. The neighborhood belongs to all of us, and it doesn't hurt to do our part to tidy up as we can. Only takes a few minutes to keep a street looking nice. We have volunteers that work with the city to clean up the beaches, areas of trash and debris once or twice a year. Everyone brings stuff to use, and the city provides equipment also. It's a fun day for the volunteers, and a lot of trash is collected.

When Amish people do this, they call it a “frolic.” And it is done by families in the neighborhood spending the day helping their neighbor. They also mend fences and repair sheds, work the gardens. And they have a big meal together. I love that! This video is very heartwarming.

@@morganmckibbon4241 well we have a good relationship with one beautiful Amish family. When we went to visit them, we felt the presence of God not only in their four homes but in the whole neighborhood. We were so happy there. We would cry when we had to leave and go back home to be surrounded by cold and hateful godless people. They travelled hundreds of miles from Pennsylvania to New Hampshire to see us when my son got cancer. And when he was in bed suffering in pain, they called us from Bird In Hand, and sang hymns into the phone so we could hear their beautiful voices singing about heaven, and we all cried. They came up again and sang in my son’s house, and prayed for him and did chores . Then they came back for the funeral and stayed with my daughter in law for nearly a week. I never heard them speak unkindly about anyone. And I never saw massive suffering among dogs, or among their beautiful horses, their cows, their poultry, their camels, and any other animals in their neighborhood. They are the nicest people I’ve ever met.

Agree, or at least ask if they would like help as some may feel a little embarrassed. My 94 year old neighbour loved gardening, until ailing health along with his wife sadly dying last year. I noticed him struggling to walk lately as well as he normally walked miles to grab his daily newspaper. So I told him I'd edge & mow his front lawn everytime I did mine. I asked if it was ok to edge his driveway & he simply said do what I want to his front as he was so happy I'd offered. No skin off my nose as it is part of the same lawn i.e. no break inbetween, so it just gives me a bigger line to mow each way. The both of our front lawns are relatively small anyway & I need the excuse to exercise (I only need a push along mower - nothing fancy) lol ;o) (EDITED for typo's only)

Not everyone has the ability or equipment to care for their lawns. It should be included just like trash and recycling pickup instead of spending city resources to hand out violations to people who are obviously unable to do it. This is something I'd like to bring to my cities attention and see if we can make a difference in these people's lives and let them know we care. 🤔😇

I told him don’t you dare take any money!!! My parents had a neighbor that would snow blow and mow their grass. The couple had their two boys help out. My mom tried to pay them but they wouldn’t take it. My parents could well afford to pay, but the parents wanted their boys to learn that it’s the right thing to do to help without any compensation. When my mom died they came with their boys to the calling hours. It was so emotional for me to see such kindness towards my parents. There are great people out there willing to help. Great work

Can you imagine the story this house would tell. A cute starter house for a young family. A dream for someone. Then kids, marriage, love and heartbreak. Now the house is caring for an older person, feeling tied and run down. You made that house feel young again.

Love you guys, thank you for helping others. Especially the elderly whom just can't do it themselves or afford to do it. Crazy they would fine her rather than get her help. Shame on the council. All she needs now is to have her home secured. How a council can leave an elderly vulnerable lady without windows or doors or decent steps into her garden, shows what those in power care about. Money and not caring for one another. Thank you for showing others how to care. God bless you. Any window people that can help watching this. Please help make her home secure so she can look out of her home and have light, rather than feel like a prisoner all barred in. Thank you 💛✨🤗

Cities like fines and violation assessments so they can file liens and eventually take peoples paid for homes and sell to their buddies. They use unpaid property taxes for the same reason. It's so very sad that no one in her neighborhood would help her in her time of need.

Thank you. The first try was technically knocking down the weed height but didn't give restoration or comfort. You did a really nice job refinding the nice design and sense of home that place was intended to have. That lady was loosing access to doors and light through windows. You really observed and stepped in and did some important things. I like that when you ran into tricky/tough parts you didn't back off and just kept working through to get it done to a good personal standard. Excellent job.

She still is responsible for the fines the city was going to levy, and needed the help on the house whether she lives there or in a retirement center/ somewhere else while trying to keep/rent/ whatever her house... The work still needed to be done and she obviously was having trouble getting it handled. Your judgy comment is meaningless.

@@lawrenceleroy4812 you are also assuming the owner didn't have the resources to look after it properly. I agree with the first comment but I also agree with Robin . Maybe the owner just didn't care until she was forced to do something about it. I admire the work ethic of the guys cleaning it up.

I've lived in several townhouse communities in my life as well as owned my own home. The townhouses always had some little plot of land you could ignore or plant. I always chose to plant and the most likely people to offer to help came from other countries. The most notable was this tiny 80-something Chinese woman who barely spoke English. I was digging up sod to start my garden and suddenly she was beside me loosening the clumps with my shovel. Most Americans hardly recognize that their neighbors exist these days. It's so nice to see these young men helping people they don't even know. ❤
