In this video, Phil removes heavy mold from a VHS tape that has been stored in an attic in humid conditions, and possibly once was in a flood and put away wet many decades ago so this video will show the step-by-step painstaking process of removing the mold, cleaning video tapes, and then digitizing the VHS tape to a MP4 file to be then put on for USB drive and uploaded to the cloud also. Hey Phil, I have several tapes that only have small parts taken up with content. Do you and others charge for the whole tape even if it's only 10 min. long? Thanks

Can’t speak for everyone but I charge flat rate up to 2hrs allowance per tape. Common misconception short tapes don’t take long, half the time there’s problems and it might have to be redone multiple times to get clear pic and audio. Oxidizing tapes are constantly clogging video heads. I have a $500 min order on any projects I take on.

Hi Phil. Another great video. I have my first mouldy tape. I have had it apart and cleaned the spools as you show in the vdieo. The box you use to run it through, is that something you had built or can you buy them? I am more than happy to invest in one. Cheers 🙂

If the tapes scrunched up and wrinkled you’ve got to cut that bit out tbh

A hot iron and thin magnetic tape, you'll end up with a melted mess @@fusca_azul_calcinha

Yes! I do wear a mask and eye coverings now. Thanks for asking lol! I try to remind people with moldy tapes when they balk at what I charge, I tell them I’d rather not do them and I’m risking my health to save their memories, which most of the time was the result of their carelessness.
