I am also bengali. The correct bengali pronunciation of his surname is Raay (Not Ray). Western people (& those who speak in english) called him Ray. In one sense Ray = Raay (If you want to know how, you need to know Bengali language). Indrani called him Ray because most of the people called him Ray when they speak in english. But when they utter his name in Bengali, they call him Raay. I don't know why they don't use Raay all the time. RAAY IS A BENGALI SURNAME. (NOT RAY).

No, in the Bengali language it is Rye, but since it is spelled Ray, people say it that way. It is actually pronounced "Shottojit Rye".

He's Bengali. His surname is accurately pronounced "r-aa-i", as in "dye". But north Indians sometimes do pronounce it as "rae". That isn't incorrect but it would give more joy to Bengalis if you pronounce it accurately.

They weren’t in good condition, but at least everything was intact. We made an EDL [edit decision list] from those. It was basically like a puzzle, where we would figure out which source had the highest quality of a particular moment. Once it was all slugged in, the films were complete. The EDL became our roadmap to the restoration.

I think I saw another KZfaq video where they mentioned that they got some prints from other sources which were in reasonably good shape. That helped them restore all those films.

Satyajit Ray was the son of the great bengali poet and author Sukumar Roy and grandson of another great Bengali Novelist Upendra Kishore Roy Chowdhury. He preferred calling himself Ray and his room where he did all his work as Ray's World. That's how the name Satyajit Ray. Also it was less confusing and easier to pronounce across communities.

Kolkata being the capital of British India became very anglicized in many ways. But it is also the seat of the Swadeshi movement (wearing and using Indian products) in protest of the British. So in appearance we may look like a typical Indian but our mentality changed a lot during this time and it's effect is still prevalent. Anglicized Bengali surname is one of the many things that is a result of this clash of cultures. Ray is fine as it's how the genius himself pronounced but Rai is definitely the Bengali pronounciation. Do you know Bengal also is the seat of the greatest rebellion against the British colonial powers. Most prisoners were Bengalis that time. Bengalis majority were staunch opposers to Gandhian way of freedom fight but ardent follower of Netaji subhas Chandra way of freedom fight.

When they say 40% they mean overall 40% not just from the start or from a specific point. When you have 40% overall then you can generate the rest of the frame using the respective nearby frames. It would have been best if the whole 100% or least 70% to 80 % have been recovered safely, but hey it's so much better than nothing.
