This is no big deal in 70s for the rest of the world. Maybe for Indians. Hollywood was well into science fiction in 60s with 2001 A Space Odyssey, Star Trek, Planet of Apes, and countless others. Any person who had worldly knowledge of cinema, which Satyajit did, wouldn't need much imagination to do this.

@@daakudaddy5453 The Indian texts from 2500 years ago already highlighted space-time dimension - where Brahma tells a man travelling from Earth to Brahma's realm that everyone on Earth would have aged but he wouldn't. It's also true that Hollywood read up on these texts. It was no big deal for the Indians 2500 years ago either. Jeez, respect the man's intelligence without putting him down.

@@mindymoore618 No they do not. None of the ancient texts anywhere speak of space-time or parallel universes or multiverse or nuclear physics. You're just deducing meanings that you want to. And if they do, so do the Bible, Torah, Quran and every other mythology ever. Religious scholars do it all the time to show how their faith is better. Something is discovered, and they find a ambiguous line and say "See! Our books already had it!" And am I to believe the widely racist and anti semite hollywood guys of 50s and 60s read and 'stole' ideas from ancient indian texts? Yeah right. PLEASE GET OVER THIS ANCIENT WISDOM THING! It's the cringiest thing Indians do. Satyajit Ray is a great director. Among world's best. But he's not the pioneer of science fiction. The Hollywood writers are. And they were inspired by the English novelists who took the idea and bravely flew with it. Give credit where it's due. Dont steal it to show India in a better light.

Black Mirror is SO NOT inspired from Anukul. Anukul was an stand-alone work of art that had no impact on western cinema or even Indian cinema. And Hollywood and western entertainment was full of aliens/science fiction/ robots /mutation, etc well into 60s and 70s. Some movies like '2001 A Space Odyssey' even inspired many modern inventions. Even Marvel and their sci-fi superheroes was big back then. Even before that, they were heavy into sci-fi novels with Around the World in 80 days, 200 leagues under the Sea, Frankenstein, Journey to Centre of the Earth, etc. It can be argued that Anukul was inspired by these works instead. It's the Indians that lagged behind with our melodramatic formula films until recently.

But this one is the best. Syntell, especially is a very good orator. Also, this particular discussion was much more engaging for me because you both sorta had opposing views. Syntell was optimistic, even though he could see the dangers of AI while you, Jaby couldn't help but be a little pessimistic about it. And that made for an awesome discussion to listen to and before I knew, I had watched a 50 minute video. Kudos to you guys! Thank you both and love from India. 😊

Thanks Jaby for reacting to this short film. This is my all time favourite short film. I requested you several times in the past for this reaction so I'm happy that you finally did it. Loved your conversation. And this is the brilliance of Satyajit Ray. He wrote this story when nobody could even imagine something like this. He wrote many outstanding Sci-fi short stories like this one. His creations create conversations like the one the two of you just had. Sujoy Ghosh did a fantastic job of recreating Ray's story into this short film. Jaby to have a better understanding about the nuances and metaphors used in this short film just go to the comments section of "Anukul". I'm proud to be a Bengali because we have the artistic brilliance to make something special like this one. Watch more Bengali films, and react to more Bengali film trailers Jaby. Do it man, it's a request from your long time subscriber... I did not think about the symbolism in the movie before Syntel pointed it out. But let me make it clear here. In the Gita, Lord Krishna asks Arjun to fight his own brothers for the sake of duty and justice. This is in our Holy book of Hindus, The Gita. In the short film, The Robot is Krishna and the employer is Arjuna. Here too, the robot helped the employer to go against his brother for the sake of duty, just like how the employer will use that money for good. It somehow gives the message that one must not be afraid to take action, even kill if it is for Dharma, meaning duty. In the Gita, Arjun did not want to go to war against his brothers, But Lord Krishna instructed him otherwise, about Duty and conceince. Although this paints a very vague sense of subjective justice, but this is because people don't recognize what their own dharma aka duty is. Although, I am an atheist but I do recognize now, the greatness of Gita as a holy scripture. Hats off to Syntel for noticing this. Love you man!

Thanks, to the regulations which allowed to make changes sequentially. i10 didn't come in the first neither we are going to jump so soon to i20 though we are capable of.We will do it one after the other as per the needs, demands, and requirements of the changing world. Effect/Influence of Positivity is multiplied by one's experience, understanding, involvement and ability to collaboratively connect to some other person or entity (organization). The last four multiplying factors can be greatly enhanced by our exploration into intellectual and spiritual (not religious) endeavours. In short we can reduce nonsense if we ourselves are sensible and sensitive (alert and not reactive).

With sheer honesty, Syntell has been by far the most intellectual guest on your channel till date, unparalleled and untouched. Man, Jaby, you should get him back soon someday if possible.

I’ll always prefer human connection rather than having a robot. Call me old school but nothing can beat the emotions. The memories which we create is special. India is also having robots slowly and I’ve heard there is a restaurant in Bangalore which has robots as waiters. I’d go once there just to see but never for long term. Going to a restaurant means I want a human to come and talk which builds connect. We already have less jobs and moreover if people employee robots then we gonna have nothing in future.
