@@krissifadwa I'm in Alberta -- it's the same on my parents acreage here too. I remember when they first got the acreage, we went out into the fields one night and like just stared up at the stars for over an hour -- keep in mind we had just moved from a city. It was beyond amazing--there was something spiritual seeing that amazingly sharp and vivid light of various astronomical phenomena.

@@petemavus2948 My dad is one of my best friends. He talks to me sometimes about how he feel he isn't doing a good job as a father but I think he's perfect. So many of my classmates over the years have had parents that were divorsed and never there for them or were completely useless people. Any time I think about how many children don't get to grow up with a good loveing father I realize how lucky I really am.

Rockefeller Wildlife refuge is the best that lousiana has. It’s south east of lake charles near the coast.

If you go and just take a weekend to drive for like 4 hours away from the city, the view is really worth it. Trust me the pictures just do not do it justice.

Thus, the town council decided his astronomy spot required a high-intensity, unshielded streetlight. You just know what the busybody thinking was with that. "Be normal. Go inside at night."

As an avid amateur astronomer, I have to say that the complaints about starlink are overblown bullshit and just get repeated by people who either have something against Musk, or who have no idea what they're talking about. As an example, over the weekend, I took about 4 hours of photos of the milky way. I captured less than 4 satellites in that time, which were erased with zero effort by the free stacking program I use. In the same amount of time, there were literally dozens of airplanes, some of which had to be manually removed because they don't disappear after a few seconds like satellites. They are fully illuminated the entire path across my shot. The satellites don't block anything due to their tiny size, so that's a false argument. They are easily recognizable as satellites, so being confused by them is only a folly of an absolute novice. They dissappear quickly, so nowhere near as bad as airplanes. They are very easily removed from frames, unlike planes. They are being coated now with paint that will make them invisible to all but the most sensitive instruments, so that's a non argument. I could go on and on. The consequences are non-existent compared to the enormous benefits and anybody disputing that is simply doing it out of ignorance or malice. There is literally no valid, honest, and informed argument that they pose any considerable issues. Any argument against them necessarily has to be even more strongly applied to airplanes, yet nobody is doing that because it's obviously ridiculous.

Also, the commercialization of space is what will eventually bring us a plethora of newer, better and more timely scientific instruments to understand our universe better. 20+ years of waiting for instruments like JWST will be a thing of the past soon, as private industry will be able to produce better instruments at a faster rate, for a fraction of the cost, and do so with several backups. Mark my words, in the next 20 years, just as has happened with rockets, you will see private industry producing far better instruments (like space telescopes) in larger numbers and for much lower costs. It will be a new revolution in scientific discovery. And it will be much more accessible to the average person. When there are hundreds, even thousands, of Hubble/JWST type telescopes in the sky, the average person will be able to book hours of use on them from their living room and investigate whatever their hearts desire. These things are coming. The cynicism does nothing but slow that process. Be amazed and excited by the possibilities this opens up instead of looking for issues to complain about that are either miniscule compared to the benefits, or will quickly be solved.

Soon spacesuits will be the norm on earth maybe? We already have the universe from our couches right?

I'm grateful to have been able to go to the middle of the desert to see the stars and photograph them. Book a trip now! You won't regret it.

Look up Bortle Scale map. You will be able to see how far light pollution goes out. I usually go out about an hour an a half to get away from light pollution to capture some Milky Way shots to about a Bortle 2 or 3. The lower the number the darker it gets.
