I never heard an existential crisis described as "spiraling", but it makes sense. The phrase "spiraling out of control" is metaphorical of a situation, or a life in this case, that is dissolving into chaos. Like @myrtleturtle-nu3zo said, I am endlessly lost in a maelstrom of psychological chaos. God help us

I may misremember since there are a lot of SAW movies, but in one part there was a guy that wanted to...um...pew pew himself and jigsaw captured him and basically said: "you wanted to do a bad thing. So because of that, I'm gonna t*rture you in order for you to see how beautiful life is."

Honestly, yeah, a lot of his tasks would kill the person anyways. Even some of the ones that are meant to be survivable. Like cutting off the foot with a hacksaw? Bone is hard to cut through. You would need that special wire that doctors use for quick amputations. Or a bone saw. Then the thighs have arteries in them that would kill you in a minute or two. The arm is even worse because of the brachial artery so that one girl who cut off her arm would still bleed out after winning that challenge. Razor blades in the ceiling? Well, protect your damn neck because that jugular is in the open.
