Mateo's fate was especially cruel poor dude got his face sealed in a mini oven to be burnt while also being electrocuted like Honestly John should have saved this Trap for Cecelia she was a lot more Deserving of it than he was.

@@g2_655 yeah that would also work but I just don't think there was enough space for it to not to be touching his face given what we see of the insides of the mask prior to it closing shut.

The design of the mask feel so cool and Aztec looking which makes sense for the whole film to take place in Mexico who are known for the Aztec culture

This is like a precursor to the Death Mask from Saw II. John Kramer, being an engineer, probably found this design too difficult to produce again so simplified it to the Death Mask design.

Yessss I've been looking for the shot of the closed Tlaloc mask in the movie! All I could find before was the profile picture Lionsgate Horror had and the water vessel this particular depiction of Tlaloc derives from. I don't know what it is, but there's just something about Tlaloc's inclusion in the trap design that I find stupidly fascinating. They could've so easily gone with someone that was more on the nose, like Mictlantecuhtli, the Aztec god of death. Tlaloc is such an interesting choice. And there's something about his face that is particularly ominous, too - his hollow goggle eyes, his gaping corn-cob shaped mouth. I just think he's neat. I don't know what else to say lmao

If I remembered it correctly, this is the 2nd mask trap. The first one ingame and in a movie called "Venus Flytrap Mask". I feel bad for Mateo. He doesn’t have to die. I hope Mateo will not be an enemy ingame of Temple Run game

@@g2_655 i thought the blue lighting against his neck was electrical shocks, since i believe he did get zapped a little earlier one by the mask mask when he refused to play the tape (if i remember correctly?) it was probably electrocuting him and burning him while the mask was against his face as well
