I was looking at sawmills before stumbling onto your channel, and ultimately went the HM130Max Woodlander with full extensions - while I was already looking for a sawmill, your channel swayed me to Woodland Mills. Abundantly pleased with the HM130Max. Dang it, Sandy! Now you go and show off the chipper and my thoughts start assessing the height of my slab pile and then enumerating all of the places chips could go.

Great Job Sandy on getting the waste put into the wood clipper. maybe next time, put down a tarp for the wood clips.

If you have an old trailer not being used for anything,you could modify it to hold the slab wood while being able to move it out of the way when needed,or move to a place where you could use it,or chip it.

Yeah! Woodchips are awesome! When hot composted, they release 2x heat as burning wood. Gotta get a hideout bathhouse, heat up the tub with the wood waste and feed them tired muscles!

The wood chipper earned it's keep on this one. Create U shaped collector for the slabs. 2 x 6 verticals and doubled up 2 x 6 for the base. Make it narrow enough for your forks. If it starts to fill up band up the slabs and pile them off to the side until you have time to deal with them. If you make sure the slabs on the bottom are full length and slightly substantial the whole bundle will hold together.

An old hay wagon ( or something similar) 😊 12:18 backed up into that space would allow you to catch quite a load, then shred it wherever. 😮❤😊

The chipped wood would make a perfect trail mix, especially around the pirate ship play area. A nice thick cover would ease the drop under those that had to walk the plank.

I would think that using the floor of the hideout would make the most sense! It would sure beat playing in the mud! Also, if you set up ramps, and used your winch to pull your sawmill up onto the hideout, would be your best and safest method! Set it up so that you can get it in and out of there would also utilize the trailer aspect of your new saw!!

Hi Sandy I like watching your Channel I'm looking at this wood problem thinking you should get a small boiler you can break the pieces up in two halves or quarters or thirds and heat your house for a week two weeks a month for free from your slabs plus any small trees you could cut up to feed a boiler it would be able to heat your house for free with what you find on the ground and your slabs just a thought to save you some money boilers are pretty awesome and give off a pretty good heat just a thought by-the-way great videos good Channel recommended to watch to all your Canadian neighbour peace

That wood chipper is impressive. I'd have never thought it would have the stones to chip up slabs! I used to feed whole spruce trees into chipper in my younger days but that chipper was massive. For a woodlot owner yours looks perfect.

A 4'wide x 4' high x 6' long bunk . Stack the slabs in it , band it with 3/4 metal banding. Move with forks on tractor. Stack said slabs . They are now transportable and can be sold in lifts for firewood. It's what I do except I use the slabs for making maple syrup.

I made a crossbuck like yours except I have cross boards 12’ long in the back and the front. I move it in place while using my sawmill. Then I move it to where I’m going to cut it for firewood. I try to work smarter not harder. Love my Woodlands 126. I also used the crate the mill came in and made a rolling welding table.

I like the idea of using ramps to move your Woodland Mills to the old location. You could also use the logging winch to pull it up with from the opposite side. Anyway, it's just a thought. Cheers!

that's a great chipper makes short work of the slabs. i am a bit lucky i live close to a main road and i sell my slabs. where you put your slabs put a couple old sticks on the ground and put them on that they won't freeze in i also put a tarp over them. it's a bit of work but no snow on them and there off the ground. take care and see you on the next one

Those look like some beautiful chips… fantastic size… that’s excellent stuff… you could dig out a little area and layer it back in with a little of your topsoil layered on top of your chips and your natural occurring bacteria and enzymes will convert them into a compost mixture very quickly…. Red Pine would be a fantastic animal and chicken pen beading as well… trail lining… that’s some absolutely fantastic stuff right there!!!! My friend had a big pile and my other buddy built a porch on his trailer and faced it with it too!!! Then he clad a little shed and he ran some through a table saw and he board a battened with it to seal his shed walls really well,.. there’s some air flow but it’s very dry in there… 😉👍

good video and job. you are right ramps are best. i see a damaged sawmill it you use forks. i know at times you wished you had 2 more tractors. it's a pain changing things in bad weather. i saw all my slabs up for fire wood that day or the next. take care, be safe and well.

The running gear from a hay wagon would make a good slab wood platform. I had one and used to put the logs on it to haul them out of the woods work very good. Also if you're thinking of putting your new mill up on that platform. I may have said this before burn a hole in your front bucket for a trailer ball and you can steer that sawmill right up the ramps. Good luck. Stay safe. I have the same chipper for years also. It works great but I run the tractor at 2000 rpm to save some fuel and it works just fine. I do mostly hardwood branches left from firewood trees.

Slabs and sawdust are such a chore to process eh, as I saw I put mine on my log loader trailer, once full I take it in the woods or give it to neighbours who will process it later, I think the key is not to put it on the ground. On a trailer or the racks like you mentioned to be processed later. Great job with that chipper, take care.

Ramps are the way to go if you want to get the mill up into the old bay. Lifting is the way to break things

Thanks for the PTO safety reminder. My dad’s oldest brother got caught by an unguarded PTO shaft and was spun until the tractor ran out of gas.

Sounds like you need another covered structure - something like the hay feed stations farmers used to build - just enough roof to keep the hay, or in this case the waste glitches, until you cut them for firewood or chip them

The hydraulic feed on the chipper sure makes a world of difference in comparison to a gravity fed chipper.

Just a thought regarding your new mill. I would put ramps on the hillbillie hideout 2.0 and use your 4 wheel ATV to manoeuvre the mill into the covered space. Your ATV is plenty powerful enough to handle moving the mill around the property and most of the time your going to have it in under cover. Another thought regarding your slab wood would be 1 cut up to firewood and sell it as the mill does up by my trailer park in Bancroft. 2 most times you take the tractor out to the mill so just put the chipper on when you go out to mill and take 15 20 minutes at end of day and chipper it up right then. Just some thoughts. Would love to come out to your place for couple days and help you with few projects. Again just a thought. Keep safe and warm

The one thing you have plenty of is snow. Build a snow ramp. Or use chips.

Sandy what about setting up your chipper so you can hook up your tractor to it each time your sawing and just chip them as your sawing, if you are just throwing them in a pile just throw them in the chipper ,just an Idea

My thought is to have the chipper running while you saw. That way you chip the slabs immediately and only handle them once….just a thought! Thanks

Hello Sandy. If you had an empty tote lined with plastic and one of the sides cut down about halfway, it might be used to hold the wood chips to haul to a place that might be a little muddier than other places and dumped there. For the slab wood, your idea about the green frames is a good one. I don't know how heavy the metal is or if it could take the pounding of throwing the pieces in it. A heavier metal would be nice, but I know that cost is a factor. The trailer is a nice idea with some uprights welded onto it to keep it contained. I know you will come up with a logical solution for that project. Have good days!

Maybe a wheeled trailer for slab wood that could be pulled out anywhere.flat bed w side post so you could come in on the side n pick it up to remove.maybe a burn pile or a new cutting rack.

Another great video, Sandy! I have the same chipper and it’s great. I use the chips for my trails and to keep an otherwise muddy area behind my shop navigable. Will also use them for mulch when I start putting in the veggie gardens for the wife late next month. One thing I learned about that chipper is to keep the in-feed belt properly tensioned. My first few hours with the chipper I didn’t have it tight enough and it chewed up the belt fast. Put on a new one, tensioned it well, and haven’t had a single problem since.

Something soothing about watching Chip fly out of a chipper! I was thing maybe use a trailer to put the slab wood on and then you could move it around the property and Chip it in different locations where you need it, just a thought 💭 thanks for sharing Sandy! ✌🏼❤️🙏🏼

Sandy I saw this it was on the same thing you have but the easiest way to put it to you would be it would be like taking your should with where you keep your snowmobiles in that and put it on the front of your and have the back open so that way your logs when you put them on your log deck will be dry and just leave your shed the way standing right now but but put it in front of your sawmills shed 🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲

Sandy there is many ways you could do things to get rid of the waist from the sawmill myself I will say keep it simple either fix or make a new rack like you had before put it at the beginning of your building by the old shed you used to store wood even if you have to cut a couple of trees that way no other trailer or crate or what ever just simple like you had before you can even make bigger if you want and at the end of the building you got easy access to throw the waist in it Has far as the saw mill goes again don't complicate things it is on wheel already it doesn't need to be up there where the old saw mill used to be that is asking for trouble by the in and out of building plus ramp or what ever method you use to put it up there if you want it out the weather more just put some door you could slide open on track of the ground somewhat like that you always got easy access to it even with your side by side even the snow Mobil put skies instead of tire that is kind of a joke but it is a possibility well have a great day and do what you think is best for you but keep simple

You should save some of the chips and soak them In melted wax. It makes the best fire starter ever.

Move the head and the deck separately. Head place on the ground to the side lift the deck with lifting straps like we do on crane builds and place it and then same deal dropping the head back on so you are splitting the weight and you don’t need to worry about strapping the head down.

Trying to put that mill up in shed as I see it is just too dangerous. Trees are too close to building if you are using a tractor.need to be able to drive around building with your tractor safely. Looks like you are going to have to redesign placement or parking of the mill under the roof. Add more roof so snow slides off in the right direction. Differently going to think out of the box on this, and there may not be the perfect answer. I am having the same issues 😕. Good luck, it should be interesting . The wood chips are great for filling in low spots/ruts in your woods roads.

Great idea! One thing I notice , there was one slab on the ground that you kept stepping over- do us all a favor, if you repeat this pick up the ones on the ground by the chipper 1st, hate to see your arm go out the chute.

I toss slabs on an old farm trailer. The stick sides let me slide the forks in to unload it if I don't want to tow it all someplace else.

Get an old boat trailer and put some uprights on it. I will be able to hold all the long stuff as well and again like others said you can move it easily.

Great way to clean up a scrap wood mess! I bought a Woodmaxx 68 hydraulic infeed chipper with less than 10 hrs on it for 2/3 of new price, and that was the reason I bought the CK 4010SE! have had little problem grinding up all the Pin Oak and Maple trees that were trying to take over, lol! I think a movable slab rack is your best solution, (Though your cross beam original rack I really like!) but any way to keep the slabs off the ground would be better than frozen to the ground! If you place the new mill on the shed floor, you would need to think of a viable way of ramping it up at the one end! (( Ya Know.....The whole reason in buying the Woodlander package was to have the mill mobile when needed!)) The idea of the mill sitting where it is now, makes it REAL simple to pull straight out when needed, then drive straight through to park it! Maybe slabwood covering in that area would make a somewhat mud free flooring option! Good LORD, I can ramble, LOL! Have a safe day Sandy!

Well, that looks handy as all get out. Too bad I spent my equipment money for the year on my logging winch. But now that I have the logging winch, I'll have more logs. More logs means more slabwood. More slabwood means more mess to clean up. Yup. Looks like that chipper is on my list for next year! Besides, it would be nice to clean up all the tree tops after I'm done cutting down the trees. When I run my mill a few years ago I had a good steel slab rack and used steel bans around the slabs and would stack them out of the way then sold them to a charcoal plant and that made it easy to move them not sure if this would work for you but just thought I would throw that out there great video Sandy

Looks good! Could you use a ibc tote with the top cut out to catch the chips? Might save you a lot of time later.

I have a Vallee BigRed XP mill. On mine the saw head has a metal loop for lifting it off the mill. If you were to lift the saw head off your mill from above, set it aside, then lift the mill with forks to the platform you could finally lift the saw head again and place it back on top of the milling platform.

Take one of your IBC totes and cut two opposite sides out, leaving the rounded portions in tact. Giving you a bin for the slabs. You can make several and can move them to where you want your chips. They are already setup for forking,

Fork extensions would fix the problem and would be constantly useable.

If I were going to put the mill up there witch I would. I would build a longer dirt ramp on the open end so I could just back it up and in with the tractor. Easy in easy out and safe. You wont be able to get the tractor close enough without getting on the ramps witch you don't want to do. I don't see any other safe way to do it. A ball on the forks will help a lot.

First I would cut that one tree that is right in the middle of the mill down. 2nd where the you are piling snow on the right side , again cut down those couple of trees. In doing that you plow parallel to the mill , past the pile of snow to some spot beyond out of the way. Love the wood chipper.

Using your chipper to chip slabs, would be interested in knowing how often you replace or sharpen blades.

What a beautiful place, I like the idea of using the old steel, I don’t know what size you cut up you wood for burning, u could put wood on the bottom of the pallet and have the steel uprights spaced so all you have to do is drop the chainsaw close to the uprights and the wooden bottom would also protect the chainsaw, love your video content

Are chippers somehow adjustable to vary the size/finesse of the wood chips or do mfgs utilize one setting? I'm thinking bigger chips more useful on trails or walkways versus finer size for garden mulch.

I need one of those chippers. It looks like it works great. Have you given a trailer any thought for slab wood? It can be made fairly simply and be useful for getting slabs out to areas needing corduroy roads if needed. I do like your idea of using the crates as well. Take care.

make a metal frame something like you would see on a log truck make it about 3 feet off the ground. That way you can get under it and move it around

Use your tractor to take the head off. Then move the trailer and replace the head.

Hey Sandy, Question. Could you take your forks off the frame and turn them upside down. Then gat some rect tube and put over the forks for extensions, then slightly the whole milk and lift from the top I have a 40hp tractor also and can lift my entire LT 15 without much problem. The tractor doesn't like me when I do but it can lift the weight.

i have a similar chipper, but chuck and duck infeed, on a 30hp tractor. A 4" green soft wood is its max, Ive wondered what a difference a power feed would make. How large of wood can your set up handle. most hydraulic feed I've seen require remote connection, i like the idea this is self-contained.

If u put it up in the building it opens up alot of problems. And alot more work to get the logs and lumber.

What happened to that slab wood rack that you had at the end of your sawmill building? Cutting it up into firewood size or longer it can be used a fuel for maple syrup production.
