Theres a reason no one makes kindling its alot of work lol but that dont bother me . Im not sure i have any secrets i just like sharing ideas an learning along the way . Well usually i just keep cutting till it wont push off the table saw anymore . Thats why i have the pallet right behind the saw so i can just sit in a chair an stack kindling .

The other day she helped me for a bit an we riged up a piece of plywood on the back side of the saw kinda like a table an she could grab the pieces an stack em but usually im doing it by myself an i just wait till theres a masive pile an pull up a chair an start stacking .

We did have a makeshift table but took it out for the video lol knew we should have left it . We actually have 2 fans blowing on the new splits to help dry it but we had shut them off an moved em out of the way once again for the video lol. I always have sawdust in my pockets but your right i should get an apron for when im running the table saw gota keep the boss happy .

Thanks the kindling has turned into more of a crappy weather thing to do because we can do it inside and it just makes sence to use all the slabs we have . If things go as planed we should be able to sell all the kindling we can produce .

We are going to add it to all of our rd side stands and we have a few other people that want it as well

All of em around here charge for hardwood slabs but the soft wood slabs they have a hard time finding people to even take them .

If the kindling sales really take off we might just do that an add one to each bundle . We have truckloads of sawdust . Our sawmill makes plenty of that after a day of sawing .

When i trimed the windows at camp i used live edge as trim an because im not good at mudding an taping i used a piece of live edge slab like crown molding around the top of each room really came out neat an its one of a kind .

We could do that an we do on the saw mill but i use 6 inches an wider boards for making pallets . I do have some logs that are crooked an wouldnt make lumber but if i cut them down to 4 ft logs i could put them on the saw mill an do what your saying . I might just have to try sawing some short logs an see how it goes .

We started just using cut offs an scrap lumber an when i was sawing the other day it clicked with me to just make all my slabs 1 in thick so now like you we have an endles supply of wood to make kindling an it works out great on crappy days to be inside . With so many rd side stands every ware an lots of campgrounds in our area i think we can sell all we can make . Just gota figure out a way to get the word out to all of them an i think they will all want to add kindling .

We had a table of sorts riged up so the pieces just landed on the table the other day but didnt use it in the video . We did try the twist ties that have paper over the wire but we couldnt get it to fit threw the lil holes in the bag . We tryed just twisting it on without going threw the bag an it slit off perdy easy . The zip ties just poke threw the bag mesh an that has worked good but we really want some sort of a staple gun to speed things up .

Sounds like a good set up for bundle wood you have , id love to see a picture of that splitter . I like homemade set ups . Hard to get hardwood slabs around here unless ya pay for them but the soft wood slabs are free

That would work if all our wood was strait grain but about half of it is not . We tryed splitting it a few different ways but ended up with alot of scrap an un even pieces . The table saw is slower but it cuts down on the scrap an keep all the pieces nice an uniform .

Cant beat kiln dryed we ben thinking about adding a firestarter to each bundle . sounds like you have a good set up going .

Wow thats cheep . Id go broke fast for them prices . Maine is known as vacation land an lots of folks come here to go camping to get away from there state an the big citys . Most if not all want to experiance a campfire an all that goes with it . Even the convenience stores sell bundles usually 5 sticks for 12 bucks an they sell alot . When they see us locals selling 10 sticks for 5 bucks they stock up .

They have the kind that puts wire fences back together . We got some ideas from some of the comments an one of them was the ring that seals up the bag like you see at the store on turkeys . just need the time to look it all up an find the right one .

there's always a use for those slabs James cheap enough if not free and there's money to be made or money to be saved if you use it for burning

We have very little pine in Ohio, but a very wide selection of hard wood. On my 45 acres I have red, white and burr oak, bitternut and shagbark hickory, poplar, beech, walnut, cherry, elm, ash, sassafras, soft maple, box elder, locust, and a few others. My poplars are about 48" across at the base and my hickories are 26"-36" at the base. I get about 45, 18" rounds before the first limb.@@AllenFamilyFirewood

To me i think split wood lights faster but being sawed as small as it is it lights just fine . I light the stove with it every morning at the shop . Its just kindling so they will have bigger split pieces to put on once it gets going . Boards are no good for camp fires i agree an for that reason we dont put many slabs in our camp wood bundles .

In a upcoming video we are going to share some ideas on how we are marketing the kindling and camp wood bundles an if things work out we should be burryed in work yr round .

Well to be honest it didnt take Karen very long to cut up the pieces an stack them if we had another table saw she could have ben ripping as well . Doing it all by myself wich is usually how i do it in the evenings i had figured i was making almost 40 pr hr . Out of the 4 hrs spent Karen had about 2 hrs of down time waiting around so that kind skewed the numbers on this round .

Yup kinda a how to i guess lol . We usually just start doing something with the camera on an at the end we try an make a video from it . sometimes it works but most of the time it dont lol.

Sounds interesting we split all the big slabs for our bundles and use the edgings for making kindling .

We have done a few different ones on how we do it we used to wrap em on a twister that i picked up at a yard sale but now we use the wolf ridge bagging station and make our own bags from mesh that we buy .

The tape sounds interesting i havant tryed that yet we was thinking we might try a stapler next an just staple the end of the bag .

Ow trust me im perdy focused on that blade just like running buster . Something with more blades would be nice an if the kindling takes off like i hope we will probably build something to do that . Mike commented also that we should try ripping then cutting to length as well i just figured it would take the same amount of time but next round of slabs i will give it a try .

Sometimes when a perfect cut is not needed, , like on a 4 to 60 foot piece, I cut half way down, pick the piece off the blade flip it end for end, and finish the cut from the back end, Your hands never get even remotely close to the blade.. You can also stack two or three at a time on the chop saw if you do that. Stacking too many and you wast time fumbling with pieces. This may not be any faster, but the idea is to keep your fingers further from the saw. I am really intrigued with the mechanisation idea of cutting firewood. New England accents sound similar to others, here in Arkansas people often ask, are you from Maine? I did find a little bit of country out here in the land of lakes and rivers.
