Sawmilling Green Walnut! This should have been aged a year!

Welcome back to the mill!
In today's video we are sawing some green Walnut logs for a customer. These are some pretty interesting logs and have some crazy defects! Just wait until you see what we find in them!
We will also show you why it can be beneficial to age Walnut logs.

USA USA , woo hoo.. The race is on.... as for the walnut, we have one of the largest stands in VA. Leaving them set for a year does help with the sap wood color turning a bit darker. you wont loose it all. I cut quite a bit. heading out this week to get two big one that feel a year agao. so i guess we will see live how that theroy works...

Eric i have to hand it too Harley Davison they started in a small shed JCB was the same he started with a fordson major and built a front bucket and a back arm on it he was in a small shed building trailors when i look at how they started even Woodmizer started in a garage at the side of a house and a basement to me there the guys i look up to

You should set up a small shed where you can steam walnut to turn it black then pile it on sticks and kiln dry it that’s what we do at our big band grade mill across from the pallet mill I saw at

@@BeardedLumber yes we pile the walnut tight. Steam it for 2 or 3 days then re pile on to sticks every row then either kiln dry or air dry. Kiln dry mostly then it’s all black and looking beautiful. Will even steam walnut for other sawmills

@@BeardedLumber you may be able to use your kiln to steam walnut or cherry if you can get it hot enough to great the steam. I’m sure you could figure it out

Sure thing I control the debarker with my left had one switch turns it on the other moves it in and out. I'll try to include it in an upcoming video. Thx for watching and commenting 👍
