As someone who's work is primarily done over eBay, yes, I do just put up a white background and use my phone to take photos. TBH most others that regularly sell on eBay that I personally know don't even go that far, and just use stock images...

As a professional photographer, I'm intrigued by the aspect of the process that they didn't mention - it takes two images with the background light on and off, allowing the software to create a perfect mask to auto-etch the image so you have have the product on a transparent background. Genius, really. But I can steal that technique, I don't need their tech. lol

A good camera (most of us have one in our pockets) a tripod, difuse light, and a large curved piece of paper is all you need to get product shots that are decent enough for online usage.

Having sold a lot of stuff on ebay this concept just doesn't work. There's too much cost as it is being an online reseller to make it worth it. EBay take 10 percent on what you sell paypal another 2 percent or something. Then postage and packaging is an absolute killer nowadays. To then spend money on this photography plus travel expense it's just not worth it.

Why so many people start this childish "They don´t"-"They do"-"No"-"Yes" game...

Also the whole reason that clothes are modelled is because the seller wants the buyer to think they would look as good as the model wearing it - as well as how the clothes/materials conform to the body. Just showing it "like a patient etherized upon a table" does little to entice potential customers!

Actually, I agree with the photographer. My hobby was photography and there was a time I tried to take product photos, spending money on gear (lenses, boxes, lights, etc...). It took time to set up, taking photos which didn't turn out nice. So I can imagine small retailers with so many products to sell wouldn't want to be bothered by this process.

I thought years ago how nice it would be to walk in to clothing shops, stand in a booth and the machine has you on its screen, then pick item numbers (shirts in store you have seen or what ever) and it puts that item on you, so you can see how it looks or whether the colours ok or what ever. They do it with game characters so easily now, surely thats possible now days, I thought of this ten years ago. I reckon itle come soon enough, so much easier and nicer than trying stuff on and faster too

I used to do this job 10 years ago, i take pictures of products on a white background and then photoshop the white background out. The most time consuming part is the photoshopping. If there is an app im sure there is, to automatically cut the white background out then that would save a hell of a time and everyone can use it rather than use this big ass machine. You just license and sell the software to the users

uShoot is charging £150 - £170 per hour for 8-10/6-8 products per hour, that is not helping small businesses (BS), and as Peter said he can set up the same business, and someone will do just that and undercut him. £17 per shot is not viable after 10 shots if you have more than 100 small products and more coming all the time. The idea is great but the execution is poor, Dan Luxon is being a bit short-sighted.

Im a keen amatuer photogapher . Thus doesn't add up for me at all. As the lady said you get local sudio to do it if you think your own kit isn't up t it.

When someone purchases a big or medium e-commerce website then this service is included in the design cost. The web studio do the work themselfs with a simple bluescreeen or simmilar. It takes one or two days depending on the amount of clothes. No need for any special machines. A normal camera or phone works just fine.

Managing a Clothing Ecommerce, I do see the point in this kind of service, but his pricing is all wrong. You can't bill hourly, you need to bill by SKU photos.

Peter is absolutely wrong.. IV tried taking photos on white background.. its not easy to key the product out consistently around the edges. even if you buy a light box on eBay it won't key nicely.. Peter always shouts for no reason when he believes he's right..

He's like "It takes time!" ... But, I feel like just taking a photo of the item on paper would be WAY faster than travelling to wherever this person is, getting the picture done, and then travelling back home... Unless MAYBE if you are this guy's neighbor...
