But in this episode they didn’t show her the one dress she said she loved right away, it just happened to be on one of the many mannequin displays throughout the shop. And it’s not like they changed the price tag in front of her to up the ante. So many brides never take a looksee online beforehand to see the dresses that are within their budgets, that’s why the consultants ask upfront so they don’t get her hopes up on something she’s unable to obtain. Money talks bull$hit walks. They don’t work for free and it costs money to keep a brick and mortar shop up and running every month - it’s not charity work.

It’s because some budgets are really low that they basically don’t really have much dress options so they choose more expensive ones.

I don't think he pressured her, just told her how it is. She wanted stuff that wasn't in the budget. She had her heart set on a dress that she seen, he never showed her that one. The one she seen is the one she ended up buying. That's why he said it's never a good idea to go looking around by yourself. You'll find things you can't afford and have your heart set on them.

My parents gave us $4000 expecting the wedding to cost around 10k and that my husband's family would also contribute an equal amount.... They didn't. They gave us $200 towards the rehearsal and sat at the dining table and counted the cash out in front of everyone. It was awkward and embarrassing. We paid for the rest (flowers, alcohol, my dress, tux) and had a nice affordable wedding. It wasn't jenky. We had a sit down serve meal and did a lot of the stuff ourselves but it didn't look DYI. I think my parents idea was nice and should be what happens. Both families come together to pay equal portions. Weddings do not have to be ridiculously expensive. We didn't pay to much over the 4k.

Although one could wonder why they do keep the same dress on the mannequin for the show and they don't switch it up, lest the audience finds it repetitive and think they're a one-trick pony... But it's the same on the US show; every season there is a dress they push like hell, e.g. that ghastly Pnina Tornai (oooh, Pnina!) gown with a seethrough corset bodice. For all those, you know, US _sexy_ brides. (Ugh). People look at wedding pics from the 80's and laugh and think they're horrible, but guess how these 'sexy,' lingerie corset dresses are going to look in their photo albums 30 years from now...

There are businesses where you can rent a wedding dress. But A) then I guess it does not feel as unique (though of course it's an illusion that you are the only bride wearing this dress if it's not designed exclusively for you), B) it's difficult if you are not average in height or size, C) a lot of people don't like wearing used clothes (I don't mind, but everyone is different) and D) some people dream of giving their wedding dress to their daughter one day. My mother sold her wedding dress after the wedding. I don't care especially because it was an 80s all lace dress and I hate lace :D

Here's my opinion in general if you the bride is accepting the fact that someone dear / close to you is purchasing your wedding gown. You out of all people should know the capability of that person's financial situation. So the bride should be willing to put the difference if she in fact found the dream gown no matter the high price tag. And not make someone feel bad about not paying a large amount. At the end it just might hurt someone's feelings and sometimes people can come off rude and very ungrateful for the situation.
