@@deanjohn433 some might say that the SBS are tougher but it’s the same entry requirements only SBS tend to be more affiliated with our marines (technically Navy) and the SAS tend to recruit from the army , especially the Paras. Not to be disrespectful but the entry requirements for the British Marines is way beyond their American counterparts. Akin to even your seal teams.

I love how the SAS look like absolute pirates. They grow their hair and beards out "in country", have a total mish mash of gear for the job. I love hearing Seal guys talking about the first time seeing them - they talk about being in awe. Best line I ever heard was from a ex seal guy talking about seeing the SAS geared up at the base all with US flags on their gear. He said Wassup with the flag, response: Someone has to take the blame. LOL!

I know someone who is NZSAS. He is a very just, decent, polite and nice person, who is very physically and mentally courageous. Super humble. Never met a challenge he didn’t enjoy rising to conquer, he’s always had a goal he was working towards as far as I can tell.

For anyone that doesn't know his story, there's a lovely documentary called The Reluctant Hero on KZfaq somewhere, and I believe his was the first NZ VC awarded since Charles Upham was awarded his second in WWII. I may be wrong with that though since my memory is fading through autoimmune disease issues.

My brother in law former WO1 RSM 1RNZR, George Tuhuro, told me that Willie got his VC after his entire troop fell asleep on the job while in a building in Afghanistan. They were ambushed and very lucky not to be killed. They fought their way out, but nearly had their arses handed to them by the Taliban. They should never have been in that situation to start with. But you'll never hear that mentioned in the media, or by the NZ Army.

I'm pretty sure they were in the open , stopped and Willie was sitting on the bonnet of the vehicle when they got lit up.Then Willie had to carry his mate who was badly injured under heavy fire to the closest vehicle, after making sure his mate was ok he quickly returned back to the fight.

@@robinhood8889 the British SAS have had allegations on war crimes recently, Devgru has had war crime allegations before, the USMC infantry did a massacre in the Iraq war, the US Army infantry had a civilian kill team yet they are known for their successful missions and no one talks about their war crimes. The SASR unit shouldn’t be shamed badly just because a few operators decided to do the wrong thing. Might as well call the entire military community war criminals just bc some men in the military committed crimes

@@seanfinn107Well, JTF2 operators had one of the world's longest sniper shots in Afghanistan I believe. Although I can't confirm, a former JTF2 operator claimed that their unit hasn't had any major casualty in war in Afghanistan. Compared so many that died, all or almost all made it back home.

Important to note that they all speak the same language so it makes interoperability easier, the named countries have all been close because of this and its not necessarily a gauge of quality of other non english speaking SF units some countries are comparable in capabilities some a bit weaker or stronger in certain areas, just operations and or training with units speaking multiple languages can get confusing as we can all imagine. There is also a little bit more trust between these countries than other Nato members because of history, security alliances (5eyes ect.) And once again language.

The soldier in the middle of the first NZSAS photo was sadly killed in a helicopter crash while fighting a big fire in nz. He'd left the army but was still an NZSAS reserve. I remember there being news articles about how he didnt have Life insurance as you cant get life insurance here if you're serving in the sas. Steve Askin was his name i beleive.

As an army infantryman I got to do some hits with the SAS in Bagdad it was awesome watching them work and they had a great sense of humor oh and they felt so bad for us being deployed for 15 months at a time and they had the best roe

He’s probably never worked alongside them personally but other SBS guys have but maybe not in combat, maybe only in training. I’ve seen a clip of SBS and JTF2 training together but don’t think they ever worked together in the Middle East

And they also have the world record for the longest sniper kill in history which had shattered the previous world record. Their so secretive that even the Canadian Prime minister sometimes doesn’t know about the operations they do. So yes they do have a chance to be considered as the best in the world.

Is also home of a Tier 1 squad Ranger Regimental Reconnaissance Company along with the fact that the Rangers are tasked with less spear tip operations they provide a MASTERFUL Force Multiplier to Delta Force and, more often than not, the HIGHEST orders of Special Forces from everywhere.

JTF2 Soldiers are to busy breaking all the units he mentioned records to give AF about this guy not recognizing them as the best marksmans in the world. JTF2 are the only foreign specialists to be considered by the United States military as Tier 1. Alongside their best units. Whilst they have the British SAS and other foreign teams he mentioned are considered a Tier 2 unit by the U.S. military.

@@cwr3959 Not saying Canada is the only other country with a Tier 1 unit, but as far as the Unites States had designated, at least for a long time, only JTF2 received that status. Not even SAS had it. Funding plays a big part in this designation though, and then probably assets, capabilities and so on.

JTF2 is comparable to JSOC units. In fact in Afghanistan members of JTF2 were attached to Task Force KBar and received the Presidential Unit Citation. They were highly regarded and heavily requested and in some cases given missions instead of Delta or ST6 by US commanders. They are the very best Canada has to offer and live by their motto. I low keyed asked him, and he just smiled graciously. Awesome dude. Jumped into the Falklands when he was 18 years old. I'll never forget that meeting. He kept asking me questions about my job as a doorman, lol. I'm like, "are you fűcking kidding me?".

You forgot the Airborne Rangers. Outside of the water we do much of the same training and we are war ready all year long and can be wheels up on a C130 or C17 in 18 hours or less. That’s all equipment, air, ground, arms, ammunition, support vehicles and resources, etc. We worked with some SEALs and other tier one special forces units and we could do almost same things as them.

I learned about the SBS back in the late 70's. My dad had an Issue of Solder of fortune with the Special Boat Service on the cover. I think there was a picture of some African with the side of his head blown off
