With The Praetorian Guard models from Games Workshop been a style/theme i dont feel they sell Armor that suits the army so this video is me kitbashing a ww1 scale model kit with some gw bits to make tanks that go better with the models. What do you think?

You should see the 5.5" Gun Carrier from WW1. Now that's a Basilisk. Great video as always, I love using 1/35 kits for true scale vehicles.

Would be interesting to see the kitbashed 'true scale' against the cannon micro machine. Just so we can compare how out of scale they are. I always remembered thinking as I looked at the Rhino, there is literally no space for an engine or a driver, unless the imperium had in fact mastered tardis tech, not even enough room for the marines that allegedly can fit. So I understand the gripe and agree.

Just look up Warhammer 40k ARMA mods on you tube for that as they have made all the vehicles and units to scale ..... a friggian lemen Russ is basically a 1 story house on treads with its main turret popping up slightly higher that the houses roof as in a hull down position.

Aren't the engines supposed to be in the side panels of the rhino with the track units? It was my understanding that each exhaust led to a separate engine. Such would allow for a lack of transmission in the front, thus making room for the driver and his legs.

I love the idea of converting ww1 tanks into 40k, an youve done a cracking job with this one! Been wanting to get started on one like this for a while, so ive been looking at re-colorised pictures of old ironclad battleships as the main thing stopping e is how much the ww1 colours clash with the praetorians.

Great job kitbashing, 40k vehicles always look good if made from the WWI or interwar periods, and you got a workable scale.. I've used 1/56 and it works but is a little small . 1/48th is more common and fits 40k's heroic scale better with figures but though the 1/35th is considered too big I've found it really does scale the best with figures as a finished vehicle. All that needs to be done is for you and your opponent to agree to the vehicles stats, some will count as an existing vehicle but others work better as being less strong than a LeMan Russ but better than a Chimera. Anyone interested in scratch-buils/kitbashing will find this video very helpfull, thank you for posting it

Nice! but if you want the Victorian style, it supposed to be with more black and brass, wood, handles, candle-lamps and such. now it looks like a ww1 tank that fell into a time machine- too militant and not enough "English Gentlemen"... Ah, and add a smokestack! :-)

I remember back in the 1990's when a Games Workshop/White Dwarf staffer converted an Emhar 1/35th scale WW1 British tank to a Dark Angels Land Raider. I've done the same myself, and it always turns out awesome when completed and painted, if a little expensive and time consuming, but well worth the time and effort. It always amazes people that you can mix parts from the two scales together to make something utterly unique (And that scares your opponent silly when it appears on the table :-D).

@@DubwiseJunglist if you're building your own versions of existing models, it fits fine with the stc lore, it's just a ""your homebrew Guard regiment here" pattern "imperial vehicle"" It's just like Vostroyans having their own "Vostroyan Pattern Lasgun".

Yeah a lot of gamers and even painters were using a lot of non GW bits for their 40k stuff so GW made it a rule that official stuff has to use minimum 50% GW parts

Amazing work and simple steps for using an airbrush. Exactly what I needed as a beginner airbrush user for my ork speed freaks! I’ll definitely be looking for this scale model to kitbash something orky.

I’m loving those mini series already, it’s everything I’ve not got the balls to do 🤣 You could also widen the wheelbase of the tank slightly and essentially remove the top hull to have the Basilisk sit lower in the tank like an M7 Priest Howitzer Tank just with taller treads. Could use the same design for an open top troop carrier for the Chimera

Old 40k used to be about 1/72 height and 1/35 wide. We would use the 1/35 weapons and bits with the original beakie boxed set.

Very nice! I'm doing something similar using the Les Grognards box sets for troops and mixing in 3d printed tanks/artillery along with modified Warlord kits like Char b1s for light tanks (Chimera variants). I'm debating on what to use for the Russes but I like how your Basilisk came out. Might go that route! Thanks for the video!

Cracking kit-bash Luke! Suggest you check out the Emhar Tadpole kit which is the same kit plus additional parts for a tail extension with a mortar platform. Would either give you the option for a longer bodied tank or provide spare armour plating and spare track for the farty stage. If you thought that old Emhar kit has a lot of parts take a look at some recent Meng releases, so many parts that the box lid goes right back on in despair!

Nicely done. I've seen a few people convert 1/35 scale U.S. M113 ACAV into assorted Rhino variants. It worked shockingly well.

Interesting. I just got into doing this last week. Already made two ork dakkajets from 1/72 ww2 planes and leftover ork heads and arms for the pilot and crew, and used cardstock and sprue to make the plane look proppa orky. Super fun!!

I've never found scale model kits to blend in particularly well with 40k's 'heroic' scale. Overly detailed and just too realistic looking, which makes the official models alongside them pretty derpy. However scale model company Meng does a range of 'toon' tanks - some of which are plain ridiculous looking, but others are pretty cool. Like the matilda, kv2, t34, tiger, pershing, panther, somua, I can picture them in a Guard army. And they're cheap too!

Mate, loving this series of vids so far, can I make a suggestion? For the chimeras, personally I'd opt for an A7V, German ww1 tank that's basically a big box, or a later MkVIII (I think) which is what you've got there only far longer. Reason being, I'm fully onboard with the citadel vehicles not being sized appropriately and squeezing ten blokes into the mkV would be a squeeze...

I did an Ork army years ago using 1/35 Interwar vehicles I got cheap from the sale bin in my local model shop. Scale up perfectly like you say, but with better proportions. Also a model was about half the price of a GW equivalent.

19th century wooden gun carriages for your squad heavy weapons would be great conversions. You could convert Perry Miniatures stuff with Imperial Guard heavy bolters, autocannons etc.

Great idea. I always think of the 40k vehicles' scale as off and odd, too. Anyway, I would have added more Imperial insignas on the sides, like a big Aquila or something like that.

You could use the hull of the M113 APC or Bradley IFV for some of the space marine tanks. Like the Predator or Stalker.

There are also a couple early WW2 vehicles worth looking at for your army. The British 25 Pounder Gun and Quad Chevrolet (a quirky looking lorrie). British Universal Carrier Mk.II. 750kg Fordson truck. Russian T-28 and T-35 (super quirky with multiple turrets)

I'd recommend a KZfaqr called Night Shift, his whol channel is scale model tanks. I like how he add additional textures to the models with Tamiya Paste.

Very very nice! Another couple suggestions would be some tanks from Model Collect - Fist of War line. They're "what if" models and use german tank chassis but with legs! Or use an Evangelion model for an Eldar knight :)

I came up with a new Land Raider variant. The land raider excelsior, it has a twin heavy bolter and 2 twin multi meltas, it can transport 5 soldiers

Have a look at the french tank ARL44 it was designed during ww2 after the occupation in secret it has a very ww1 look to it and I think it would make a much better leman russ. Also the tog 2 would suit the guard I think. There’s a few other early Ww2 french tanks u should look at to such as the char b1/2. I so wanted that army back in the day. Loving your work with them.

Hello. I think the M3 Lee from the second WW would go great for GW with a little converting. Over size guns are easy to fit. All the best.

Yeah, I've seen these used often as a Leman Russ Stand-In, since its one of the few historical tanks with a turret and a hull cannon.

You should check out the meng model world war toons tanks, I've done some fun conversions with them. The heavy tanks are about leman Russ scale and they give a fun look and a change of pace.

Mate that was awesome! I used to use modern Russian APC vehicles....like the BMP1 or 2 as the basis for my Valhallan army. I did try a WW2 American M3A1 Stuart light tank with different Russ turrets for my Chadians but that never got far. Can’t wait to see what else you add to this army! Cheers for sharing!

To add some variation to your tanks, I'd recommend seeing if you like the look of Whippets, ft17's and a7vs and see if you find some good kitbashing inspo (this video really got me thinking about whether or not I should divert somewhat from xenos and build a DKoK army and kitbash a load of stuff)
