Let’s ride into another villain that gave YOU nightmares, racing his way into nightmares for hundreds of years, and dig into the original text of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving.
This was already recorded before the previous video disaster. I forced myself to finish it overnight as an apology and cut around 11 minutes from the video to be able to get it out today. I probably won't make another video for a while despite all the plans I had. Sorry to everyone that doesn't want to support me after yesterday.

It's funny how Ichabod has become the hero of the story in future adoptions and Brombones the villain.

I suspect that's why many, like this show or The Real Ghostbusters, choose to put the story in modern times with Ichabod's descendents. He's a jerk, but they're not.

Decided on my headcanon: Since Icabod is older in this version, he was a Widower with at least one adult child when he disappeared. Therefore, leaving made him less of an asshole. His family would he fine.

The continuity of the Scooby-Verse version of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" could be due to how details of the story can be lost the more times when its told via word of mouth. As hearing a story without all the facts would result in details being added or lost over time. Details which would result in a version of the story where Ichabod was a married man before vanishing.

Fun fact, the Headless Horseman was originally inspired by the celtic creature or faery known as the Dulahan, a headless rider considered a sign of death to any who see it. They carry their decaying head under their arm and wield a whip made of a spine. Pretty much works the same as any death omen, like seeing your own doppelganger or what have you, but definitely one of the scariest. Mostly it is usually depicted in media as a more normal human character who just happens to have a detachable head and may or may not ride some form of bike, especially in anime and manga. So, it is nice that there is still a spirit out there keeping the scares alive, even if just during Hallows eve.
@Scoobytopia
@Scoobytopia 17 күн бұрын
The Dulahan also continues to be quite popular thanks to the series DuRaRaRa!! which features one as a main character searching for her head! I think that might have been my introduction to the folklore of them long over a decade ago now.

#Scoobytopia: My Theory: The Horseman that chased Ichabod that night was Brom Bones the whole time, Washington implies this with mentioning how Brom laughs and acts seemingly knowing when the Smashed Pumpkin is brought up, After marrying another Lady, Crane had kids with one or a percentage of his children or decendants moved to Terry Town started a Legacy and thus Crane Manor, and maybe they courted or were courted one of the Van Tassel-Brunts and did what Crane didn't because they learned how to treat a girl right.
@obnoxiousoboe
@obnoxiousoboe 16 күн бұрын
The story's in the public domain anyway, so everyone can come up with their own conclusions with what happened to Ichabod. And maybe that's also what Washington Irving had in mind too; to encourage his audience to think. The literary world was pretty inquisitive in those days. But I think if you've seen this episode, and maybe even the Funky Phantom episode that was also centered in Sleepy Hollow, you can tell Hanna-Barbera wanted to make a happier ending for Ichabod Crane and that he actually survived and had a family, and his descendants eventually returned to Terrytown. And I believe it would make plausible sense that Ichabod wasn't killed by a pumpkin.

I also have a large book of all of Irving's complete short stories which I've been reading here and there over the last year, and quite enjoyed several of them! The Spectre Bridegroom from the same trilogy of stories as this one was especially engaging, I'm surprised it's not as well known as the other two, not to say that it's unknown, obviously. There are a few shocking 1800s moments here and there in the stories, but otherwise hold up quite enjoyably, especially this one that's stood time the most.

Maybe Icabod already had a family in this universe, and was just killed by some bandits that robbed him, and to cover up his death they told everyone the story of the Headless Horseman. That would explain why nobody saw him again, and why he was robbed (he was already married to a rich older woman, making him a perfect target).

Answering that question was actually part of the other video I was writing alongside this one. It's complicated, basically. There are actually only two seasons of Where Are You. What's called "Season 3" on the Blu-ray and DVD is actually Season 3 of The Scooby-Doo Show, and if you want Season 1 of The Scooby-Doo Show, you have to get the Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Hour set.
