Since everyone's asking how to get started in touhou, here's an easily digestible rundown I wrote at 4am. Its hyper condensed but I'm sure some lore folks would be happy to correct some errors I have on top of providing more lore in the replies. >world starts industrializing >science and technology progress >this causes humans to stop believing in superstitions >this causes youkais to start dying off because they need human's belief in them to not poof out of existence >in order to prevent youkai extinction, a bunch of powerful youkai formed a council >they selected/created/whichever this remote land in japan called 'gensokyo' as their final domain >using their powerful magic, they spirit gensokyo away from the material world and into a pocket dimension >youkai from all over the world bailed the material world (also called as the 'outside world' by the denizens of gensokyo) because they can't survive there anymore >they all move into gensokyo >there's also a human village in gensokyo. There comes a point in every man's life where he learns about Touhou. Then he learns his spatial awareness and fine motor skills are not that great. Great song.

From all things Stringstorm could have made a song of, I didn't expect it to be Touhou if all things. Still a great song.

The only issue with this song I have is the idea that Reimu would ever have an actual objective in sight instead of just randomly dashing off in a direction and just happening to discover the current problem.

I find it amusing that Stringstorm and Miracle of Sound both released a song named Scarlet Sky within a week of each other, and they are about completely different games.

Do note that this girl caused this whole incident just because she wants to walk outside during the day without a parasol.

When Patchouli's part came along, I did not expect her to have heavy/power metal screaming in her lyrics. And after consecutive views, my only thought every time that part happens is: "How is she not coughing after that?"

My favourite part was when Remilia pushed Sakuya away as she said, "Sakuya! Get away! I'M ABOUT TO MORB!!!!"

I love Sakuya's scene, with her at the top of the stairs, with spooky mist and a menacing pose. JoJo reference ahoy!

So if I understand this correctly the plot is that a powerful vampire living in a distant mansion with their servants is using magic to block the sun's light, allowing them to roam the world at will even during daytime? Basically TESV: Dawnguard but with anime girls. Awesome

You know, considering we get to see the conclusion of each foe; This implies that she died on the extra stage in the end.

A universe filled with old and powerful races kept in a delicate balance, extermination usually being the first and most of the time only response, with ancient gods and eldritch creatures of unfathomable might and with humans that through tenacity, hard work and faith manage to keep the light burning. Truly, the only difference between Touhou and 40k is the tech level and the gender of the protagonists.

I did not expect a Touhou song to come from StringStorm. But this is very much a welcome surprise. Thank you for this new song ❤️

Full disclosure, outside of the song Bad Apple my Touhou knowledge falls firmly between "none" and "fuck all" but I still greatly enjoyed this song. Did not expect in any way shape or form, but greatly enjoyed. It just slaps.

Ah yes, Gensokyo. The place where among all the supernatural horrors the single most freighting thing in all of existence is a shrine maiden who's only 'power' is to 'fly away'. And all the horrifying power such a conceptual ability means when actually examined. Plus they have a fun method of non-lethal conflict resolution, which is cool beans.

Sooner or later I'll actually look into touhou. All i know about it currently is that it was popular enough in 2010 for SC2 to have a touhou style minigame and that there exists music for it, now including this excellent piece.
