This is truly hilarious and so real for me! I do NOT do scary movies. After watching your Red Flags video, however, I was curious if my disgusting assumptions about Human Centipede were true (I had never even heard of it prior to Red Flags). I summoned the courage to read the plot on Wikipedia and was quite disturbed to realize that I had, indeed, understood correctly what that film was about.

This is too real, my favorite are Final Destination Wikipedia pages because they usually read like "Everyone agrees to meet at a diner and discuss Brad's death. As Jennifer approaches the diner a rogue semi truck decimates a nearby grain silo, washing her away in a flood of grain. Jennifer is then devoured by birds."

You don't understand, this is literally *exactly* what I do. Like, I can't watch scary movies AT ALL (I have managed to get all the way through exactly three horror movies in my 19 years of life and none of them were enjoyable) but I always want to know what happens, so I just go on wikipedia and read the entire plot synopsis. I do this for whole franchises. Once spent around an hour (in the middle of the night, for some reason) reading the entire plot synopsis for every single movie in the Conjuring universe.

I recommend looking for video's on youtube that explain the plot. The fact that you can pause, skip 5 seconds or watch with the player on just a part of the screen instead of fullscreen gives you enough empowerment that it takes most of the scariness out of it while still being able to see some of the scary stuff.

With being a hyper-visual person (is that a thing?) when I see something played out in front of me I can clearly replay that thing in my mind over and over again. Colors, emotions, all of it, so watching a horror film means I replay awful, horrible, disgusting things in my mind at inopportune times - like before bed or during intimacy 😬 yikes! BUT, if I can read the synopsis without pictures, I am pretty safe! Glad to know there’s a good part of the world I can relate to because of your songs, Tom. 😅

I do this exact thing because I can't handle jump scares for the life of me, but I absolutely LOVE psychological horror and the "events" of horror movies, so reading about the movies' plots are way more enjoyable than watching the movie. If there were any horror movies that were just made to be creepy and have a really good plot _without any jump scares,_ that would be a perfect movie for me. Jump scares have always felt really cheap to me, and some people may find that enjoyable but definitely not me.

Mostly commenting so I can get a notif if anyone drops any recommendations 😳 but if you’re a fan of the tf2 videogame, this guy used the character models & worldbuilding and animated a full-length fan horror movie (Emesis Blue) that is a genuinely fantastic love letter to horror media of all kinds! It’s chock full of references to scenes to classic horror movies and books, genuinely scary, and closest thing to a jumpscare is when a guy turns off the lights and shines a lighter on his face. like it is seriously jumpscareless. gamers can have a little horror movie as a treat.
@dudekazoo
@dudekazoo 8 ай бұрын
I feel you on the jumpscares thing. They mess me up for some reason, especially the sound aspect. Shakes, tachycardia, the whole nine yards. So I'm trying really hard to remember a horror movie that legitimately had none. I want to say "It follows" didn't have any, I don't remember any. The original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" has a couple moments that were quite sudden but not full on jump scares. I think "Nope" was also jumpscare free. You can probably google them to double check.

I do this with video games. I'll start watching a youtuber play a scary game, get too scared by it, and then go read the game's entire wiki so I know everything about it before I come back and can finally enjoy the video. Horror game lore also tends to be really confusing and complicated on purpose, so oftentimes I only notice lore in the game because I read about it online first.

This is incredibly relatable. It's always so great and surreal to see songs highlighting these mundane, yet unspoken about things. I think I enjoy the written format for disturbing and horror media more because it's escapable. I can take my eyes away from the text and stop reading, the horror isn't being autonomously projected at me. I am fascinated by these dark and disturbing things often portrayed in horror media but too usually scared to consume it directly and don't really sit down to read books usually. I think that the sterile and brief encyclopedic descriptions are great in delivering the plot and concepts but not subjecting me to the horror fully directly.

Ah, you can tell the seasons are changing by the crisp morning air, the vibrant colors of the leaves, and all of the Tom Cardy's have put on comfy sweatpants

I learned the plots to every Saw movie by watching a every death list on KZfaq. Even though it explains esch death, it also fills you in on the story too.

Being overly obsesive with plots of horror videogames and yet being uncapable of playing them is something that haunts me until this day.

That’s why I like to read horror novels over watching movies! Spooky stories without the visuals, just how I like it

Bruh this is literally how I read the plot of killing stalking on fandom with a bag of chips because I was too scared to read the actual thing.

PLEASE make this into a full song, this is a bop. I don't care even if you'd have to release it around easter for some reason, this goes hard

The irony of him looking like the "initially skeezy friend who grudgingly turns out to be an okay dude (unless it's a giallo, then he is a detective who gets laid 37 times while people drop dead in speedboats every four seconds)" from basically any 70s horror while singing this

Unbelievably relatable, so many people in my life love scary movies, and tell me”it’s not that scary” I like the story, so I read it, it’s interesting.

I honestly thought I was the only one who reads the plots, and watches "The Real Meaning Behind " vids, but then speaks confidently about these movies in casual conversation. CALLED OUT.
