Knowing that they had no script for Iron Man and had to make it up as they went along, there is no way that that film should be as tight as it is. Just a small detail that I didn't even notice first time I watched it is when Pepper Potts is searching for the new suit that Obadiah Stane has had built, she finds Mk1 first, saying that it isn't very impressive. That is a great little detail that you normally see in a script that has gone through countless revisions. It also looks great considering how much older hardware and software was compared to most Marvel movies. I still think it's the best Marvel movie.

Swingers is one of the best break up movies ever made. Watched it in my 20’s after a breakup and it helped me get through it. In just the opening scene alone. “You can’t do anything to make her wanna come back, in fact you can only do things to make her not wanna come back.”

Going through a similar process being in my 20s and in a breakup. I’m 27, and we were engaged for a year. Haven’t missed a person this much before. A broken heart is a real, incredible, and powerful process. Watching good films, writing and reading comments like yours helps remind me how many people understand. Thank you.

Break ups and heart breaks are almost harder to deal with than someone's death. Because they're still there and alive. But they just don't want you anymore and will indefinitely go and get with someone else. So you're literally mourning the loss of the person while their happy to be free and off with their friends banging everyone they see.

Amen! A few years before this movie came out, a small group of close friends and I found ourselves suddenly single at the same time, for no particularly similar reason. We were all between 21 and 24 years old and had steady girlfriends since before we were legal drinking age. The timing was uncanny, and we spent a few years partying together around San Diego, going to the same bars and pool halls and hangouts, mostly places that had local live music. We got to know all the doormen, bartenders, regulars, and made friends with some of the bands. When Swingers came out, one of the guys called and said, "Dude, you gotta go see this movie... it's gonna feel really familiar". Your comment about young adult male friendship was spot on.

what's wild is that it is so timeless, despite being completely of its time and place. it takes place during that little swing revival in the 90's and revolves around actors of a certain age and disposition you could really only find in LA., plus that cruising with your posse attitude is almost a cultural relic. it comes off as a period piece full of quirks, but the situations and characters are so weirdly relatable that it's a complete blast.

I never noticed it in the cinema, or it wasn't played in my area because at the time I was dabbling in acting in TX, but I saw it in the video store. @@sandspar LOL, not so good. I did play the title character in an indy film that got shopped around at festivals, but didn't get picked up by any major studios. I had a very tiny uncredited part in another film. I auditioned for Ed Norton's breakout role in Primal Fear, obviously didn't get it, but my best friend was called in for day 2 screen testing with the dozen finalist. That was cool. I worked behind the scenes for a while as well, just trying to get my face known to folks. I realized I didn't have the all or nothing mentality you need for that path and moved on.

I was hanging out with some friends recently and someone challenged us all to name an "instant classic." Song, book, movie, whatever - it just had to be the sort of artwork that is broadly recognized, from one's initial encounter with it, as having timeless brilliance. I named "Swingers" and essentially shut down the conversation because, from that point on, we were all just firing off quotes and our favorite scenes and stuff.

I had never seen anything like it when it came out, and after watching it again recently it’s still just as good as I remembered. Pretty incredible to think how impactful some people can be on the lives of so many. I'm not always too thrilled by the big, noisy 'blockbuster' films these days, but someone like Favreau really seems like he's experienced enough of lives ups and downs that he's able to couple that with genuine intuition about how to entertain. Not too surprising that you can take someone like that, let them take calculated risks and voila; a mighty impressive career.

At one point in my life I pretty much only spoke in lines from Swingers. Brilliant on so many levels!

I'm not a film guy but I love hearing about the movie-making process, especially for the more indie stuff. It shows that great electronic media gets made when talented people build relationships with each other, get a good idea and a little money, and are allowed to work without undue input from non-artists.

Really enjoyed the video. Probably should’ve kept Favreau as the thumbnail though as the video is about him not Vaughn.

I saw Swingers for the first time in 1999 when I was 14 and it inspired me to go to film school.

Chef is such a good introspective of Jon's own career and his step up to do Iron Man and then to have a lot of ideas shut down because they needed to build a larger world then at the same time its just a really loving story with laughs and you dont have to think too deep but the reason why he made that movie is so important to his overall story to be where he is now.

Swingers and Go were favorites of mine back in the day. They both had that low budget feeling with good writing

Swingers has sooooo many memorable scenes. Vince Vaughn standing on the table in the diner shouting “I’m the asshole.” Then asking the waitress, “Excuse me miss, where do the high school girls hang out around here?” 😂😂😂 Comedy gold.

You're right about independent movies, in the 90's. I remember late night, channel 4 (UK) you'd see some crazy stuff. This was during the Dogma 95 craze, and I think Sundance Fest was still fairly new (started in the late 70's, I think) It was certainly a different scape, than today.
