A relaxing drive on one of the most beautiful roads in America, Utah's Scenic Byway 12. The video includes the entire 122 mile length of the byway, starting at the Hogback section and heading west. Once we hit the far west end of the Byway at U.S. Route 89, we jump back to the east end in Torrey, Utah and head west back to the Hogback section. This drive was made in late June 2019 over 2 days. Video speed alternates between normal speed and 2X normal and can be adjusted in the video settings.

I drove this road about 25 years ago,....late in the afternoon in the winter with no idea what I was getting into. It was still one of the most white-knuckle drives I had ever been on. Even in the moonlight, I could tell if I went off the road and down a cliff I wouldn't be found for months.

@@Tonymanero1960 How many other cars did you see after sunset? I did Bryce to Escalante after dark and maybe saw three cars. That park is lower elevation, but I was still afraid I was gonna hit a black cow.
@Tonymanero1960
@Tonymanero1960 4 ай бұрын
@@whitneyryan-ng1cq I did it in reverse because when we arrived late at night we stayed outside Bryce Canyon. I distinctly remember that there was NOBODY on that road except my girlfriend and I. Remember this was pre-internet/cell phone (not that we would have gotten a signal) so you really didn't have a clue about what the road was like. Also,...I swear most of the guardrails that are shown in this video were NOT there when we drove that road. I just remember the complete and eerie silence while driving.

This was one of the road trips I did way back in 1993. I"d driven up from Phoenix in a rental vehicle (sedan). On this part of my tour, I came across from Hite to Hanksville and onto this road shown here. So much of that trip I'd forgotten about. Now, thanks to AdverntureEveryDay, it's all come back to me. Thank you so much for taking me back to these marvellous places. It's much appreciated.

We've done the Moab area four times now. But, this year we're doing Goblin Valley SP, Capitol Reef NP, Peek-a-boo or Spooky slot canyon down Hole-in-the-Rock road, Coyote Gulch and maybe head over to Kodachrome Basin SP and back up Smoky Mountain Road to Escalante. We grew up in the Chicago area and for most of our lives never had the chance to travel anywhere and never knew what was really out here until we finally had the chance to visit for the first time a few years ago. Now we live out west and it feels like we’re where we belong. Thanks for watching and for your comment, it definitely means a lot to us. We drove it all the way from Tropic, Utah going to the end which is in Torrey Utah. Beautiful long drive but after passing the town of Boulder views are gone..all curves with forest on both sides until you reach Torrey (boring part Boulder to Torrey about 50 miles )

Hey AdventureEveryday. Cool video! Heading west in both filmed legs - real beautiful. Was not even of aware of this route before your video. Missed it when I was out there. I am heading back and bringing family who have never seen the region, and after your video, I HAVE TO add byway 12 in there somehow. (trip is denver start/vegas end) So after your video, thinking this reworked order: Denver, arches/Canyonlands, monument valley, south rim of Grand canyon, antelope, zion, then byway 12 for bryce and capital reef, then vegas. So hopefully starting @ 89 junction and finishing in Torrey is just as beautiful as your westward trip. Thanks for the inspiration!

We did the exact same thing the 1st time we went out west too, we were even on Scenic Byway 12 by Bryce Canyon but had no idea what was right down the road. We also did the same thing the 1st time we went to Moab, we didn't even know about Scenic Byway 128 along the Colorado River which is much more stunning than taking 191 south from I-70 into town. Sounds like you have a pretty sweet itinerary planned! Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching!

Maybe if people start seeing these kind of videos they will start reflecting on what they have done to this earth. All we do is pollute and destroy, we create things that are not helpful to nature at all. We need to start thinking of ways to recycle better and we need to stop not caring anymore and stop worrying about politics and stop rioting. We need to love the earth and everything it has to offer us. We barely do anything for it so why should it do anything for us? Soon the earth is just going to give up and maybe our lord will not be there to save us, because of all that we have done to his creations. I hope you all take the time to read this message and actually understand what I am trying to say. If possible, spread the word and make sure that they understand what you are telling them. I hope god will always be with you all and have a blessed day. Thanks for reading this message.❤🙏

Make sure you have reservations to get into the Arches. Cause unaware of this we did not have any. We drove from Minnesota to see them and after waiting for 45 minutes to get through the gate we were told to turn around and come back later in the day or with a reservation. I was not a happy camper as that was the only time we had to see them. Totally frustrated that they did not have warnings before entering waiting lanes and sitting there so long.

Jump to 1:15:08 - Nothing was missed. We chose to start the video at the Hogback, then ran the byway all the way west before jumping all the way back to the eastern end of the byway in Torrey and heading back towards where we started (per the video description and time stamps).

That is the least scenic part of scenic byway 12, the portion from Torrey to Boulder. All mountainous,up and down and around curves...for about 37.5 miles...

I took this route pre pandemic and the hogback section scared the crap out of me I have a major fear of heights. I am going back again on my motorcycle this time to conquer this demon. It is hard for me by the video to tell how many miles is the if you go off the road on either side certain death zone. Can you give me an idea so I can steel myself to be ready for it?
@AdventureEveryDay
@AdventureEveryDay 2 жыл бұрын
The most dangerous section of the Hogback with the steepest drop offs on both sides of the road only lasts for a few minutes, and is maybe a mile or 2 long. You can stop along the way at the pullouts and take some time to acclimate to the heights too which should hopefully help.

Scared the life out of my hubby also when we were at the top and with very little protection on side of road and steep drop off. He liked it but was glad to be off of the top too and back down on more even surfaces. I was driving.

I’m not a truck driver, but I can certainly understand the appeal, particularly in the west with the big skies, mountains and deserts. Nothing better than hitting the open road and cranking up “Roll On Big Mama” by Moe Bandy and Joe Stampley like my grandfather did when he was a trucker. John Denver is fantastic cruising music too. Thanks for watching!

What kind of camera do you use? Is it a steady cam? I see the hood of the car move up and down and rock back and forth but the scenery doesn't.

I have searched KZfaq, but I can't find any complete drives. And if you make it out here to Virginia, I have some good ideas for drives. Thank you. utah.com/top-5-scenic-drives
