It's finally time to build out the interior of the camper. This time we'll be playing with some new materials, a new design, and a second box.

Oh dang! I've never heard of PVC foam board, I would of loved to use it over press board with my 2x2 outside frame box for bed and storage. And PVC glue is amazing how strong it is, the foam board is probably pretty pricey I would imagine. Thank for the excellent video.

Looks fantastic. I've been searching for a proper material to build out my bed boxes. Luckily Piedmont has PVC foamboard in stock in San Diego. Two questions: Do you think you could have used 1/2" instead of 3/4"? Do you feel it was necessary to cover the foamboard with the white sheeting? Looking forward to starting my project!

That is the dream! It’s something the wife and I talk about doing eventually. Right now we have a lot of rescued pets, but we’ve already decided we likely won’t be getting new ones once they pass on. We are also downsizing apartments this summer and getting rid of a bunch of unnecessary stuff in preparation for eventually doing something like that.

Thanks! Nope, it’s not needed, JT was just to clean up the look and create a smooth surface. And yes I plan on trying to secure things a little better at some point, but that will probably be after we finish installing the new 1 gallon water tank and pumps and such.

@ScenicCityAdventures
@ScenicCityAdventures 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! We used some heavy duty PVC glue to put the pieces together and a couple of short wood screws to hold it while the glue dried. We used a heavy duty all purpose spray glue to bond the ACM to the foam board. Something like super 77 should be good.

couple of questions. Do you think the PVC foam board would be strong enough to stand on and get into the bed of the super pacific if I used it to build a pull out drawer system? Also would it work for the drawers in said system? Seems like you got on heck of a deal on a 4x8 sheet if you paid $100, because Piendmont plastics web says the 24x48" is $202
@ScenicCityAdventures
@ScenicCityAdventures Жыл бұрын
It is absolutely strong enough to stand on. We use it to get up and down in the camper all the time. We used 3/4 material and it's very sturdy. The only concern I'd have for drawers is it will scratch and gouge if you are sliding things like wood across it. Wow! I can't believe it's gone up that much. That's too bad. It's such a good material to work with. Do they have it in full sheets?
@kevinherndon6963

Looks good. Why did you sheet the outside? Were the 2 large cutouts in the front just for weight reduction? How is the top connected? Is it a "lid" or do you pull the top off to access inside? Nice work. Just had those questions.
@ScenicCityAdventures
@ScenicCityAdventures 3 жыл бұрын

@ScenicCityAdventures
@ScenicCityAdventures 3 ай бұрын
Thank you! We built a full setup for my dad’s camper in extruded aluminum and it’s definitely a great way to do it. We found it was a little pricey by the time you get the connectors and mounts and such, and it’s definitely heavier than using the PVC Foam board. On his f250, it really didn’t matter, on my truck it would have been noticeable. The aluminum is easier to work with, and there are tons of great addons and tutorials to working with it. It’s not a bad choice by any means, it’s just not what I was looking for.

I seem to have bad luck with leaking. My snugtop leaked from day one from the windows and the bed rails. All American truck and SUV could never fix it. I’m hoping super pacific will be able to at least lessen it quite a bit. It doesn’t help that the bed by the cab is lower than the bed rails on these 2nd gens.
