The problem with investing directly in companies is that there are tax implications, you have to buy and sell to mimic the ETF and then pay capital gains over that, so if the ETF does offer around 10% returns it rotates half of its holdings every year and capital gains in your country are taxed at 30%, buying the same companies at the same time the ETF does will make you have returns of around 8.5% and that's not even counting the comissions for buying and selling, so probably you'd end up with 7% returns mimicking a 10% return ETF, which sucks a lot, but that's how the EU "protects" us, by not letting us save and compound and by making brokers richer.

Thanks for your elaborate comment and you are absolutely right, it's definitely not the same and much lower returns, a real shame that we can't buy US ETFs as Europeans. Would love to buy some SCHD and VOO💯

Do you have the european codes(the ones i can buy in €) for: QQQM, SCHG, VYM, VUG, VTI?
@SmartMoneywithKai
@SmartMoneywithKai 3 ай бұрын
Hi, they may not be 100% the same, but could be a good starting point. Here are the UCITS ticker codes for the ETFs you’re interested in, all of which you can purchase in euros: QQQM: The UCITS equivalent is EQQU on the London Stock Exchange (LSE). SCHG: For SCHG, you can check out IUIT which is traded on LSE. VYM: The similar UCITS fund would be VHYL, available on multiple European exchanges. VUG: You can opt for VUAA for a UCITS version on LSE. VTI: For something similar to VTI, VUSA is available as a UCITS ETF. These tickers should help you navigate your investment options in Europe. Always double-check the specific fund details to ensure they align with your investment goals! Cheers

There is a way for europeans or uk residents to buy those etf's and it's through options. The law doesn't prohibit buying options.

I bought SCHD as a European citizen, via Freedom 24. However, note that you are getting taxed on dividends. For my country is 15%. Assuming this tax rate, isn't much better to choose a European ETF with bigger expence ratio? (E.g. 0.7 %) ?
@SmartMoneywithKai
@SmartMoneywithKai Жыл бұрын
Hi Erodotos, I am not too familiar with Freedom 24 and sadly their website is not giving too many details, but I believe it's similar to Etoro. In the UK & EU you are sadly not allowed to buy US ETF's directly, and no broker can make an exemption to this. The only thing they can do is to sell you Options or CFD's so it looks like you own the ETF, but in fact you are not and if they were to fail, your money would be gone as don't actually own the underlying asset/ETF. That's from Etoro's website. 'All US ETF positions opened by clients of eToro (Europe) Ltd and eToro (UK) Ltd who are residents of the EEA or the UK are only available as CFDs.' So I assume it's the same for Freedom 24, they just don't show it, which makes me even more suspicious. Rules are rules sadly. So you are right, buying the EU ETF equivalent is the best and only way to go about it👍

@@SmartMoneywithKai wow didn't know that! In fact before opening my account at this broker I asked them if the product they sell is CFD and they denied it, saying that I am buying an actual ETF share, which is written in my own name! I would appreciate it if you can provide me with the EU law reference so I can investigate more before throwing my money on this platform! You are really saving me!!!🫡

My pleasure, so it's really something fishy there. They would be the only one's offering this and here you see the law why it's not allowed www.europarl.europa.eu/doceo/document/E-9-2021-004745_EN.html They are only allowed to offer UCITS ETF's. So if it was my money I would not invest it there, you just never know. Cheers

The 15% USA dividend withholding tax tax can be offset against your tax in all countries with a double taxation treaty with the USA, I believe that nearly all EU countries have such an agreement.

@@SmartMoneywithKai Is there any way to tell if it's real or CFD? What about moving it from FF to IB and then looking at the ticker symbol at IB and asking IB if it's the real thing. They should have no intention to lie in that case, I guess. If it's distributing dividends, where does the dividend come from if it's a CFD?

Hello Kai, what do you think about the Verizon stock, do you think it might be worth investing in?
@SmartMoneywithKai
@SmartMoneywithKai Жыл бұрын
Hi Matus, not much to be honest. I don't like the sector and when I look at 10 year total returns it's only 14% vs 210% of S&P500 so really poor performance and I don't see this changing for the future, so while the dividend looks attractive, total returns is very poor. Hope this helps. Cheers

@SmartMoneywithKai
@SmartMoneywithKai Жыл бұрын
Hi Kim, many thanks indeed🙏 To be honest, probably not:) I actually really enjoy researching, understanding and investing directly into companies individually. When I use them, for example Costa Coffee through my Coca-Cola holdings, I feel like an actual owner of the company so yeah I really enjoy that, but if someone is not so excited about that or researching and following companies, I think SCHD could be an attractive high dividend ETF👌

Hard to say, as I am not a financial advisor. It's an interesting ETF for sure, with a juicy yield, though personally when I look at some of their holdings, not all are companies I would personally invest in, so you really need to do your own due diligence and see what you feel comfortable with. Do you want to steadily grow your net worth, maybe better S&P500, do you want that regular dividend payout, JEPI could be an interesting option👍
